Forum Games / Let's count movies PER REEL
« on: February 09, 2009, 02:32:16 PM »
The original theatrical cut of Star Wars (before it was titled Episode IV: A New Hope), was roughly 11 reels, or 121 minutes.

One reel is generally accepted to be around 11-12 minutes.

Fan Creations / Abandoned For Death: A Comic
« on: January 22, 2009, 07:34:36 PM »
I was thinking, hey, why not make this an ongoing comic or something. So yeah.

This is a slight exaggeration of the most common outcome of this tactic. Kids, be smart. Don't use the skylight in versus mode.

Forum Games / Make a Band
« on: January 18, 2009, 12:00:37 PM »
Basically, take five or so people, related in some way, and make 'em into a band.

Mario = Lead vocals/lead guitar
Luigi = Backup vocals/bass
Toad = Rhythm guitar
Peach = Keyboards
Bowser = Drums

Now it's your turn!

General Chat / Tonight, We Dine in Hell

Describe any and all terrible food you've eaten, terrible restaurants you've visited, terrible meals you've attended, terrible cooking skills by friends and family, and other terribe foodstuff-related topics.

As for the first two, that's covered by a local diner in my town, Billy's. It's got some sentimental value, yeah, and the people there are some of the nicest folks around, but for the most part their foods are very poorly made approximations of Denny's dishes that all feel like re-microwaved leftovers. At least their coffee's okay, though.

Here's to a new year of fun, non-fun, love, hate, good times, bad times, and other things that contradict each other.

Fan Creations / Left 4 Dead - Online Impressions
« on: November 22, 2008, 12:07:52 PM »
So yesterday I started playing Left 4 Dizzle online. Not with my friends, who have yet to buy the game, but with anonymous online folks. This is essentially how every encounter with a Witch ended up, no matter who I played with:

Penny Arcade's got nothin' on this.

Video Game Chat / Left 4 Dead

So, what's the verdict? Personally, from what I've experienced with the demo's single-player, this game rules hard, and can only get better with human players. Basically, it's what you'd expect from Valve: awesome graphics, control, gameplay, difficulty balance, and system requirements (Source Engine FTW). And the game really does feel different each time you play. Areas that were once swarmed with zombies are eerily different the second time through, and various crazy-powerful zombies like Tanks and Witches appear at various unpredictable locations - or not at all. And teamwork really is required to survive. In fact, I intend to buy a good microphone exactly for this game.

Video Game Chat / Motion Sickness
« on: November 07, 2008, 08:50:27 PM »
Anyone here ever get motion sickness from a game?

I ask because I was just replaying Half-Life 2, and during the second half of the airboat segment, I had to take a break every five minutes or so to keep from barfing on my keyboard. I have never gotten motion sickness (that I recall) ever from a game, and strangely, never from any part of HL2 before. As I type this, in fact, I still feel a little hazy-headed. Is there an explanation for this?

Am I going to die?

General Chat / Glorb's 15th Samhainnual Shocktober Helloween Dead '08
« on: October 15, 2008, 02:24:48 PM »
Yes, "dead" is a pun on "thread". Shut up.

So, yeah, this Halloween thing I hear kids talking about these days. Thought I should make a thread about it. Tricking, treating, candy, scary movie, scary game, costume and pumpkin discussion goes here.

And in case anyone's wondering, I'm open to costume suggestions. I'd go as the Poughkeepsie Killer, but no one'd get it.

Not at the Dinner Table / Cloning, genetic research, and the like
« on: September 20, 2008, 10:44:42 PM »
So, cloning and other such ilk: Good, or bad? For, or against? Ethical, or maybe not so much?

Personally, as long as they're kept in check, I think cloning, as well as stem cell research, are extremely important. Opposing either because it's "playing god" is a terribly petty reason for doing so. Wanting to put an end to research that could cure any number of previously incurable diseases because of religious beliefs has got to be the most amazing example of hypocracy I can think of.
