Not at the Dinner Table / Re: Sexual Orientation
« on: June 07, 2013, 07:55:03 AM »
I may be in the minority here, but seeing as I value love over sex, I think I'd actively turn down a polyamorous relationship if the opportunity arose.

Same. Call me traditionalist, but I believe in one true love with one person whether gay or straight, rather than a bunch of concubines around the house.

Btw I am straight and have voted as such.

As for the clogging bit, my wii does crash occasionally, and the fan and CPU make little buzzing sounds, which doesn't happen on any other game.

Just some things I want discussed, ad in no particular order here they are:

-spam attacks: I don't like these. Almost every character these days can just hold the a button and it will literally win the game for you. That's not how fighting games ever worked and they never will.

-3000+ achievements: These clog the file size of the game, which in many cases has caused wii's to crash and other bad things.

-Characters: I don't think there should be too many. About the number in Brawl plus maybe 3-5 more would be a nice thing.

-Movesets: Some of them have nothing to do with the character. Kirby's smash is a cook, for gods sake.

-Subspace: This is weird. Honestly platforming doesn't work with the fighting format, because with moving around and such you don't have time to pull of combos. I guess that's why the enemies can be one shotted. Also the storyline is plain stupid.

Discuss.

Watchmen did not inaugurate dystopian fiction. Brave New World came out in 1931. Fritz Lang's Metropolis was 1927. Something called Rasselas apparently came out in 1759.

People have been writing about the end of the world since 10,000 years ago, what's your point?

Also they both look like humans, so it was easy to develop a move set.

I dunno, he's kind of got a point, dark tones and cynical futures have been very present in more than one medium since the 90s or so.  Watchmen kind of inaugurated them and as good as that was, most of its spawn does not deserve to be put on the same pedestal.

Particularly, the problem with The Hunger Games is, I think, that Ms. Collins just kind of ran out of steam after executing the initial premise; the sequels - especially the latter one - just feel very meandery and overstuffed with political overthinking.  The kind that comes off as a juvenile but failed attempt to be deep.  The franchise is entertaining in its own way and I'll certainly be in line to see the next film but overall I'd say there are better sources of meaning out there in fiction.

The main problem I have with dystopia books is that now they use them as a portal for a cheap romance. It's like mixing apples and oranges.

Why does everyone like the Hunger Games? People are talking about the next movie like its Gine with the Wind or something and it should be honored. I don't see what's so special about it. I also hate dystopian books in general, there too overused these days by no name writers trying to be Suzanne Collins.

The problem is that Pokémon simply doesn't fit in any format besides its own. Picking Zoroark or any other 'Mon would be picking favorites. Adding all the Pokémon would ruin the game. Then it would just be "Pokémon brawl" and not "Nintendo Brawl". I think Pokémon should still be items, but characters is just plain stupid.

It'll be either Zoroark or Gen VI's equivalent, sadly.

Yup. Nintendo sadly doesn't care about the community, just like every other game developer. They want you to like only the Pokemon that they want you to like so they could use it for advertising.  One question I have for them is why they didn't include a Machamp back in Melee when the 1st and 2nd generations were popular. He would seem like the perfect character for a fighting game, not Mewtwo.
