Title: Most frustrating Mario moment.
Post by: HolyAarom on August 24, 2005, 11:50:48 AM
Has there ever been a time where you play a Mario game and become very frustrated? Mine is playing MK64 or SMK on 150cc during the last race and you get hit and all the CPUs pass you and when you finish, You don't have enough points to be 1st place.

Mario, Mario, He''s our man, If he can''t triple-jump and ground-pound, no one can!

One of mine was in Super Mario Sunshine.  It was when you were in Pianta Village, and you had to go down the warp pipe.  It was that one level where you had to have people throw you around, you know.  That one got SO frustrating, along with some of those other puzzles like that.

Another one was in Luigi's Mansion.  I was just plain stuck in this one hallway not knowing what to do.  FINALLY I found the ghost butler wondering around in the halls, and I blew out his candle.

When I was really little playing Super MArio 64 at my neighbor's house, I got frustrated on those stairs that would never ever end, unless you got enough stars.  I was young ,and stupid.  Otherwise, Super Mario 64 is the best game!  *clears throat* Sorry.

In Super Mario Sunshine; the secret sprite where you had to take Yoshi out to the little desert island to the side of Delfino Plaza, and then go through the level where you had to move down a river while standing on a leaf and collect eight red coins.  It took me two weeks to finally get that sprite.  ~_~

I found that area to be pretty tough as well. But finding the blue coins in some areas was the worst part for me.

Super Mario Sunshine was the most challenging Mario game for me.

When I was younger and played Yoshi's Island, I found almost the entire game to be frustrating!  And then when I finally did get the hang of that, I got ultra frustrated from trying to get 100% in every level.  Especially the last secret stage, yowza!

SMB: Lost Levels.  Need I say more.

In SMRPG, I almost lost my mind doing 100 super jumps.  Not a fun thing to do!

Mario Power Tennis.  I had trouble with the challenge with the bloober whhere you can't hit certain squares.

SM64.  The sand level frustrated me, the clock level frustrated me, the rainbow level frustrated me, the red coin challenge in the sky frustrated me, every single stinking red coin challenge frustrated me... I'll stop with that.

PM2.  I'm not exactly sure what it was but I just could not for the life of me figure out this one puzzle.  Then I had to find the answer in an FAQ and now I feel bad.

And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

Definitely the time I lost in Mario Party 2 to a 3 year old and two easy CPUs. Despite winning the mini-game bonus star at the end by a LOT. Only time I ever got 4th in a Mario Party game. Or worse than 2nd, for that matter.

The first time I tried to solve level -4 (first set) in Tetris Attack's (SNES) puzzle mode was irksome. Same with 9-5 for Yoshi's Cookie's (SNES) puzzle mode.

Oh ya. And Tubular gave me a lot more problems than Outrageous in SMW wfirst time I played it.

Really? I never had any problems at all with Tubular. It took a lot of practice to beat Outrageous for me.

Tubular... urg, I could never get the hang of that... I always had my sister help me with it, but she liked that level so she was happy XD

Outragous... that was the forest one with the fire, right?

Oh yeah, I used to hate 8-2 and 8-3 in SMB. Then I beat them both and I hated 8-4 for like a couple minutes, and I beat that (on my first try if I am not mistaken). I had to take a leap of faith twice in that level... the Hammer Bro, and then Bowser. Yes, I jumped OVER Bowser at the end, as a small Mario. I was SO lucky I beat it... but that was a long time ago, so :P

Mostly my moments come from Mario kart games, when you're on the final turn to the finsih line in first place, and a totally  cheap red shell hits you and you're done.  Also, I lost a game of mario party 2 to my sister, who isn't that great, but she isn't half bad either.  Her lucky moment came on the tenth turn, when she landed on a Chance space, and it turned out she had to trade coins and stars with Peach.  At the time, Peach 2 stars, I had three, my sister had none and Mario had none.  So, she gets both of peach's stars, lands right next to another, and wins a fourth in the bonus stars.

Edit: Oh yeah, on my very first turn, I landed on a hidden block and got a star.  Turns out that don't mean jack in the long run.
KISS?  What does that stand for, Koopas in short shorts?  *Shudders*

Trying to play SM64DS.

For some reason, I still feel compelled to buy it.

One that comes to mind is the watermelon sprite in Gelato Beach. I almost tore my awesome hair out on that one, almost.

SMRPG--trying to climb those vines between Bean Valley and Nimbus Land to get to that blasted area with the treasure boxes.

SM64--getting several of the Stars. Seriously, I had a harder time with this game than SMS with some of the Chapters. Because of the analog stick having less accurate control, or something.

SMS--all those chapters with "Secret" in them, where Shadow Mario steals FLUDD and you have to do some intense platforming.

PM:TTYD--getting to the bottom of the Pit of 100 Trials. (Oh, and then dying around level 70, after spending several hours just getting to that point.)

<spoiler> Okay, I'm right at the end of PM2 (I don't play the game very often, this is my second time to rent it) and I found out that I had to run around every single level just to find that stupid white bob-omb!  So I did that for awhile, getting very bored and irritated (boreditated) and stopped before going to Twilight Town because I was going totally insane.  Seriously, what were the makers thinking there?!  I can take a little backtracking now ant then but this... eez just too mouch!  Hopefully the last level will be more enjoyable than that. </spoiler>

SMS- I hated Pinata Village's "The Goopy Inferno" episode. It took me forever to figure it out.
SM64- The Bullies in Lethal Lava Land.
SM64DS- Getting the Switch Star in "Bowser in the Fire Sea"; getting 149 stars but then having to play SM64DS over again because of that stupid Boo bug!

SMRPG: Same as Sapphs. The Nimbus Land vines. SO frustrating!

MK:DD: Not able to get enough points for 1st place.

Missing too many Stylish commands, thereby not getting enough power and dying in PM2's Pit of 100 Trials while fighting Bonetail. That controller doesn't work near as well as it used to, if you catch my drift.

That level in Super Mario Brothers 3, Iced Land (level 5, maybe?) where you have to fly up a narrow tower carrying a shell so you can break through blocks and get to the pipe.  To date I have never beaten that level without P-Wings.

I am pretty sure that is World 7-2... yeah, it was pretty frustrating.

Other Frustrations:
SM64 - Not the bullies in Lethal Lava Land themselves, but that one star "Bully the Bullies". Urg, that took me so long to complete that I had 4 out of the 5 other stars there done when I got it... the sixth star is also frustrating.

SMB - The end of World 8-2, where you had to get on one small block at the very edge, start running, and hopefully make it across to the other one so you can jump. I died so many times doing that...

Ice Land is level 6, Pipe Land is level 7, and that particular level is from Ice land.  Insane Steve said the level number before.  I thought it was 6-5.

Um... Oh, of course.  I am HORRIBLE at RPGs.  Except Pokemon maybe, but I kept restarting that game so many times that I didn't beat it until 8 years after I got it.  Anyway, I still haven't past Trunkle in Mario and Luigi: SuperStar Sega.  I haven't played in a while either, so...

Hmm, I think that the worst mario experience for me was when I was like 5 years old.I fought my way all the way to world 8 (I didn't know of the warp whistles or P-Wings when I was young.)I wasted all of my lives and items in world 8-1. Argh, that level still gives me bad memories.

How could I forget the vines in SMRPG?  Gah!

For me I didn't have to much trouble beating the bullies when I figured out a good system after awhile of trial and error, but the ice bully in the snowman world always tormented me even when I ran through the game a second time.  But I think that the Bullies should appear in a Mario Party game because they could make a fun mini-game IMO.

I'm terrible at video games, and I don't play them that much, so I couldn't name a most frustrating moment.  That said, those bullies were EASY.

SMRPG had the most insane bosses. I had trouble beating that Croco guy at the start! I also find it annoying that Piantas hate Mario in SMS. They dance around like retards, with no gift or anything for the poor guy, right after he saves their sorry butts.

I was going to post my own, nut all seem to be covered here, and then some. Still, the frustrations make the game more enjoyable. Now my next frustration would be to wait for my GameCube to be returned fixed.

PM2: as shadow mario i always tryed to use vivian to avoid battling that hyper cleft but he would always fall asleep right above where i was hiding so when i tryed to get out, i would always jump on him and take damage.

My most frustrating time was collecting every medal in Super Mario Bros. DX. But I did it, and in the process it made me a beast at SMB.

"That level" is indeed 6-5 (uh, I think) and Bullies are so-so.

The little bullies were a little annoying, because there's more than one of them at first.  The big ones are easy.  You just jump at them; you don't have to ground pound them or punch them or anything, just jump at them.  That said, I never noticed until very recently that the second star in Lethal Lava Land is called "Bully the Bullies", not "Boil the Bullies".

I oughtta get all those medals...

In PMTTYD I hate that first Crazee Dayzee you meet at Twilight Trail. Whenever you try to change to Paper Mode to go in or out, it'll always catch up with you and force you into battle.

My most frusterating Mario moment just happened an hour ago.  I was playing SMB3 on my Game Boy player, hoping that I could get to world eight with two warp whistles.  I did, and when I got to world eight I used the first warp whistle, and ended up at the warp zone.  I used the second, hoping to get to the special world nine--but nothing happened.  I was still in the warp zone, and there was no pipe labelled "9".  That's when i noticed that the up at the top(or maybe it was the bottom) of the screen, it said, "World 9: Warp Zone".  I was expecting a whole other world!  It was just the place where you warp!  AAARRGH!!

I can't believe I forgot that clarification...

My most frustrating Mario moment has to be MKDD in 150cc mode due to the ridiculously enormous amount of blue shells being hurled my way.

Deezer :(  You aren't getting too old, are you?  Did you ever get the hang of it?

It's definitely a challenge, which is why I'm proud to have done it.  I know you can  do it too, and it feels so good when you one day realize you've learned something new...

I side with Deezer. The "revolutionary touch-screen control" was so crappy that I had to use the D-pad the whole game. Here's what I said when I first got the game.

"the touch screen support absolutely sucked. SUCKED. i'd rather move mario with the d-pad! nintendo really screwed up on this one, that's for sure. to run mario, you touch the screen and a bullseye-like thing appears, with your stylus/finger at the center. most of everything around it is a deadspot(mario barely moves), then there's a thin strip on the outside where you put the pen to make mario run. kinda like the N64 stick, you place the pen in correlation to where it would be on SM64. now, this is fine and dandy if you can see where you're pointing, but chances are you're looking at the game screen instead(watch the touch screen, fall off a cliff. get it?)! now, this might not be so bad if the virtual "stick" held in one spot and you could just get your hand in a comfortable spot and get used to it that way. but no, it gets worse. eveyrtime you move the pen outside of that thin band used to make mario run, the "stick" moves that much. which means even if you have your hand in a comfortable spot, you'll have to move it once you notice that the center has also moved. there's no way to tell how much it moved without looking at it, and looking at it means once again taking your eyes off the bob-omb about to blow up in your face and using them to chase that stupid stick around the screen.

it just plain SUCKS."
