Thoughts?

Well, your interpretation certainly is solid.

On the "And That the Skies Lie..." part: The X-Nauts live on the Moon ("sky") and only Grodus knows the true purpose of the stars, whie the other X-Nauts are clueless (?), thus "lying". idk, really.

Mario Chat / Re: Why Yoshi's Island DS makes no sense

Thought it'd be about the tepid level design and how poorly it implements the added gimmicks.

He stands with Joe_Cracker as one of The Greats.

Hopefully the final script will feature 27% more scenes with the 1950s sitcom penguin family.

Yeah, that GTA 4 machinima perfected the genre. Dunno why peoples ae still bothering.

Also, they're using kickstarter to fund it? I'm no legal expert, but asking money for fan works seems risky.

Yoshi's Island is one of my absolute favourite game of all time and I usually dig NES' stuff (well, their interview moreso than their original content) but I can't say I share the enthusiasm shown by the first two poster for that article. The introduction is too long and rambling, essentialy reading like "Yoshi's Island is a great and revolutionary game. It should be played by everyone. It is a great game. It is revolutionary. It should be played by everyone. Did I mention it is great?". The part about game mechanics essentially says "uh, you can throw eggs and flutter your jump and that adds depth 'n.' stuff" (the part about how "Yoshi’s tongue is another example of a game mechanic that has more than one use" is a legetimately good bit of analysis, but it's not really explored in any depth). The level design section is short and uninformative, talking more about how it inspires ~a feeling of adventure~ than the actual construction and thought put into it, which is only briefly adressed by throwing buzzwords and two gifs showing funny gimmicks... etc. The entire thing reads like one of TV Trope's gush page (lol) with some pretense of analysis thrown in.

Personally, I think it should be required playing for everybody in the world.

Amen.

Mario Chat / Re: New Super Mario Bros. U

According to this, the UK magazine GamesMaster is the first publication to have released a review of the game. The abdriged impressions are:

Quote
- May look the same, but there are some “incredible tweaks”
- GamesMaster feels it’s easier than NSMB Wii
- Took under seven hours to complete
- More to the game outside of the main campaign
- Most of the innovation is saved for the final levels
- “Without wishing to spoil anything, we were surprised, excited, and twinkly-eyed during an excellent finale. It’s almost as if Nintendo suddenly realised that they were in fact working with a Wii U, with a game-changing GamePad and everything.”
- Hopes Nintendo will “build on this solid, if not mind-blowing, foundation.”

Makes me curious about what happens in the finale. Hope it's not just Bowser becoming giant again.

One of the first-gen Wii U title  is a Western-outsourced spin-off of Super Mario Bros. A M-rated hack-n-slash starring the antagonistic Bowser, the lead designer describe it as a "darker, violent, badbutt action game that is the antithesis of the Mario games. Something that older, action-game-loving people could enjoy." and justify the jarring tone shift with "I think it's important to give Bowser a total badbutt edge to be a potentially M-Rated game.". The game flops miserably, leading Nintendo to cancel an unannounced localisation of Mother 3 for the 3DS e-shop in order to recoup costs.

Princess Peach is a powerless figurehead manipulated by a group of Junker-like Toad aristocrats who do all the actual kingdom-administerin'

Because, why not.

I mentioned this question elsewhere, but are Peach and Bowser still technically wed? I mean, if their marriage was legitimate enough to release the Chaos Heart, wouldn't they have to go through a divorce?

I like to think they didn't bother with a divorce and both just don't give a [dukar].

Hotel Mario is canon and set at the end of timeline.

The Mario bros are on the onset of senility and years of poor diet, exposure to various hazards and strenuous physical efforts have taken their toll on the body. This is demonstrated by Mario's even more pronounced rotundness, everyone's awkward movement and the continuous attempts at communicating with a non-existent entity.
