Mario Chat / New World Record for SMB any% on NES! darbian - 4:57.260!
« on: April 13, 2016, 11:16:45 PM »
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ev-QpxN8wPo

Everything about this run is the fastest a human has ever done it up to this point in history. darbian has held and improved the WR since October 18th of last year, starting with a 4:57.627 (only a few frames faster than the old record, which stood for a year and a half.) He again improved the record on January 14th, 2016 by 12 frames to a time of 4:57.427.

And now, tonight, on an otherwise normal night (like all the others), he broke the world record once again! I'm very happy to say I was in chat to witness it this time and it was very exhilarating. You just never know when these sorts of things are going to happen (he had actually reluctantly decided to stream that night while waiting for his laundry to dry).

More info on running SMB can be found by tracing darbian's post history on reddit, especially his contributions to the WR submissions on r/speedrun, which I have linked in the URLs for the times above. Here's the post for the new record.

Video Game Chat / Wonderful Wii Jackets
« on: October 20, 2007, 08:05:21 PM »
Has anyone ordered these yet, or have received there's yet? I just got mine today, and they sure feel nice in my hands. You get much more control than before, and the added weight is kind of a good thing. It makes the Wiimote feel much nicer in my hands.

Not at the Dinner Table / I personally believe...uhh, the Iraq...
« on: September 16, 2007, 05:38:34 PM »
So, we all should have seen it by now. Now, the question is, how would you have responded? What would you have said differently? And what do you have to say about this response?

If in some bizarre turn-of-events I was in the Miss America contest and were asked that question, I probably would have said:

"...What? Did they poll babies or something? If you can't locate the U.S. on a map, then what are you doing here?"

Or something like that. I mean, seriously, I do not believe that's true. The people they polled probably just screwed with them or something. I can't possibly imagine that being true.

That's right. The master writers in Nintendo Power rated Metroid Prime 3: Corruption for Wii a perfect 10/10 score in the latest issue of the gaming magazine.. In the review, Chris Shepperd mentions how the "...stunning visuals and immersive gameplay of [Metroid Prime 3: Corruption] prove that the Wii is ready for the mainstream gamer. Deeply enjoyable and satisfying, this is the title that gamers have been waiting for." The third installment of the Metroid Prime series is available Tuesday, August 28th, 2007.

General Chat / Mr. Melee's Daily YouTube Blog
« on: August 20, 2007, 09:14:30 AM »
Hey Fungi Forumers, this is Mr. Melee here, of course. Well, as some of you know all too well, I am a YouTube Junkie/Addict/etc. You name it, I've already seen it on YouTube. Well, I thought I might do a little something for everyone here, and that is recommend great YouTube videos. This will be a daily blog, so look for updates on really good videos every day, including weekends. Great videos need someone to watch them! And I'm going to be like their manager or something.
I'll also try not to link to YouTube Poops. [;_;]
Well, first off, I highly recommend checking out my favorites list on my YouTube Channel. I have a lot of really timeless videos there, including those monster ones with 20 mil+ views. But, here are a couple I think you guys might like:

manualist plays super mario bros. theme on his hands!
This guy has some hidden talent, I'll say. And he does a ton of other songs, including really good classic rock songs (The Trooper, Sweet Child O' Mine, etc.)
Ben - GH2 - XBOX360 - Psychobilly Freakout - FC
Ben, the [now] 9-year-old Guitar Hero protégé, displays his talents here once again, this time obtaining a PERFECT COMBO for PSYCHOBILLY FREAKOUT. Sorry, Lizard Dude, you have to want it to get it. Too bad he's currently 2nd on Scorehero.com, as someone else beat him by only 92 points! Looks like Ben's vacation is over right away.
Vadrum Meets Super Mario Bros (Drum Video)
I tells ya, this guy has excellent drumming skills. Here he does a rendition of the Super Mario Bros. Theme Song. I highly recommend watching all of his videos. Just to watch this guy is something else.
Welcome to mcdougles with axl and buckethead
A pretty funny animation involving characters representing Axl Rose from Guns and Roses and Buckethead, working at McDougle's [McDonald's]. A good watch with mild language near the end.
Crazy Old Lady, XBOX-style!
What a sweet old lady...until she pulls an Energy Sword from under her jumpsuit.

Well, that's a good couple of videos to get you all started. If you'd like to see other videos, definitely stay up-to-date with not only my Favorite Videos section, but also check out the Top Views of the Day, Week, Month, and All Time. You can also PM me for more recommendations if you find you're begging for more. Until next time, I go back to my YouTube pleasure.

General Chat / Summer Slumber
« on: July 04, 2007, 07:32:52 PM »
Do any of you guys have a summer bedtime, either enforced by parents or chosen? If so, explain it. Right now, I'm debating with my dad over how I shouldn't need a bedtime, and that they're really pointless when I have nothing I need to wake up to tomorrow besides my vacation (come ON, it's a vacation, too!) I just don't understand the need for a bedtime at this time in the year. Of course one during school years is needed, but one during a summer vacation is just meaningless.
Anyways, do you put up with what I do? Do you have a set schedule of slumber during these (hot for me) summer months?

EDIT: Also, please state when you normally go to bed, even if you don't have a bedtime.

General Chat / Rated M or AO?
« on: June 27, 2007, 10:23:17 PM »
This is something that's been bugging me for quite a while. What is the point of Rated M if there is a Rated AO? First of all, it's only one year's worth of difference, so it seems very superfluous. Second, and more importantly, it seems as if a person is going to undergo some serious and critical change between the ages of 17 and 18 and become mature enough to handle nudity. It all just makes no sense.
I think there should just be a Rated M that is 18+. If you disagree, then you probably understand the seemingly-subtle difference here, so please explain it to me so that I may get a better understanding. As of now, though, the whole thing is superfluous.

Video Game Chat / New SSBB Item: The Banana Peel
« on: June 27, 2007, 09:37:08 AM »
http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/items/item04.html

So, there will now be a banana peel in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. :S I kind of think this interesting, as people could take this as a poor excuse for both a joke and a weapon; however, it could be good for stalling opponents. Still, it's not the weapon you would expect a Super Smash Bros. game to have.
Discuss the banana peel here.

General Chat / Chaotic Concerts
« on: April 10, 2007, 10:18:05 PM »
While attending the totally-awesome Chevelle concert yesterday night, I thought that a good idea for a topic would be to have everyone talk about their concert experiences (if any). So, what concerts have you been to? Who played there/how well did they play? What was it like there? Were there people holding candles or people flying in the air and moshing (like where I went)? Did you enjoy it? Would you recommend that band to anyone? Please talk about your concert experiences here.

So far, I've been to about three real concerts with nationally-/internationally-recognized bands: Soundgarden (before they were popular and when I was really young), George Thorogood, and Chevelle. Every concert was great. I can't remember much about the Soundgarden concert except that my dad, a friend of his, and I were searching for our other friends who were no where to be found. We walked through a big crowd, and I remember that it was loud enough for me to want to cover my ears (I was young at the time). At the George Thorogood concert, people were moving around with the beat of the music, drinking, and having a great time, and I was, too. It was an awesome concert, and my official first real rock band concert in my mind. At the Chevelle concert, moshing was going on up front as the band thrashed. People were crowd surfing and everything, and I even saw a guy get carried out of the place by two of his buddies (serves them right, I say, as I'm not a big supporter of the ideas of moshing). The concert was great and very loud, but that made it all the better.

Now that I have dwelled on the topic a little, why don't you?

General Chat / Tooth, Brush, Paste, and Rinse
« on: April 06, 2007, 07:14:42 PM »
Discuss your toothbrushing activities and such here! For example, try discussing:
-Brand of toothbrush, toothpaste, and, if applicable, mouthwash and floss.
-Flavor of toothpaste, mouthwash, and floss.
-What you do while brushing your teeth.
-How long you brush your teeth.
-Your dental record.

Go on and talk the truth about the tooth!

Video Game Chat / Common "Sense"
« on: January 15, 2007, 12:04:56 PM »
For all you lucky Wii owners out there: where do you place your Wii's sensor bar? Do you place below your beautiful television and next to your awesomely awesome Wii, or do you place it in triumph over your television set, having it gaze out into the unknown frontier of your living space?

In my case, I do not yet own a Wii. I am still among the millions and millions waiting to get one for a more realistic price other than that on Amazon.com or eBay. But, if I did have Wii, I would think it would work well underneath the television set. But, how about you?

« on: December 03, 2006, 10:44:23 PM »
Here's something to do when you've got nothing on your mind. Get something into it by guessing everyone's riddles! We'll start with someone giving a riddle (me, in this case). Then, everyone after the "riddle-setter" tries to guess the answer to said riddle. Whoever guess correctly gets to give their own riddle. Ready? Let's begin!

Find the next number in this number pattern.

Video Game Chat / Countdown to Wii
« on: October 30, 2006, 06:23:25 PM »
Well, I figured that if there's been a countdown to Super Mario Sunshine before, there should be one for Wii. This is the unofficial topic for the countdown to Wii. Feel free to share Wii anticipation, any last thoughts about Wii before experience, and talk Wii (Will you wiiserve Wii for mii?). So,

Prepare! Wii in 20 days.

Fan Creations / In the Fray - A Super Smash Brothers Melee Fanfic
« on: October 19, 2006, 09:21:11 PM »
Thank you for clicking on my Super Smash Brothers Melee fanfiction. Originally created for a project at school, this is the extended version of my story, where one kid gets sucked into his favorite game. Please note that although this is based on Super Smash Brothers Melee, it will contain many exaggerations. However, they are all for your reading pleasure. I hope you enjoy In the Fray.

          "Take out that trash, boy!"
"Can't hear you, Dad. I'm listening to Led Zeppelin!"
Yes, I was listening to the greatest band of all time on the day I would have never thought physically possible (even though I always dreamed of it happening). Actually, I was listening to the greatest band while playing one of the greatest games of all time, and my personal favorite: Super Smash Brothers Melee. I wasn't going to let trash spoil my Friday. The plan was simple: watch TV, listen to music, and play video games. However, I was never too busy to help my father in any task.
"Alright, just let me finish this level," I told him.
"And just how long will that take?" was the response.
"It'll be easy. Master Hand, even with Crazy Hand, is no match for Mario!"
"I don't know what language you're speaking, but get that trash taken care of!"
I sighed as I went back to my game. If parents would just give games a chance. It was just after Mario had beaten Master Hand that it happened. I was getting ready to take on Crazy Hand when the Gamecube froze. What a rip-off! I pressed the reset button, but it wouldn't budge. I kept trying to push it in to restart, but the button was oblivious to my straining finger. I sighed and was about to take out that trash when a brilliant light emerged from the Gamecube. I covered my face, and when it was over, my room looked like a jungle. Even though my room was already as messy as a warzone, it looked different. I realized that this was not my room when a giant ape came hurtling towards my direction. By instinct I ducked, just missing a whack from a giant gorilla. But that was no gorilla. I knew it once I saw the red tie displaying "DK" in bright yellow letters. How could Donkey Kong be in my room?
Weirded out, I started to explore the world I was in. My exploration was quick, as right when I stepped over, I fell off an edge. My room doesn't have any edges, I told myself. Fortunately, I grabbed the edge, but unfortunately, I am not the strongest, or thinnest, person out there. I struggled just to hang on. I thought I was going to fall into the croc-infested waters (my room does NOT have water in it at all, or real crocodiles), when a white glove appeared and grabbed my hand, pulling me up.
I stood up just to almost fall off again. I was staring at my video game idol: none other than Mario.
"That-a was a close-a one, kid. You better watch-a where you step here," Mario said.
I had no chance to respond, as Donkey Kong appeared, and grabbed Mario by the back of the collar. I watched in horrid fascination as Donkey Kong lifted Mario onto his back and started walking with him. Mario, struggling, was unable to break free. I had no chance to stop Donkey Kong as he threw Mario off the ledge. I thought it was over, but I saw Mario climb back on to the platform, just as an invisible crowd cheered. Now I knew where I was, but it all seemed impossible. I was in Super Smash Brothers Melee.
