Title: What gives you the willies?
Post by: Deezer on May 28, 2005, 05:33:23 PM
Most people would say "fingernails on a blackboard," but no, apparently I am much weirder than that.

* Metal silverware cutting on cheap, glossy paper plates
* Fingernails on car paint
* Fingernails on some house siding material
* Touching paper or smooth wood with previously damp hands (i.e. right after drying my hands with a towel)

My dad has one I've never heard of before: The sound of taking a bite out of an apple.

Oh, I thought you meant things that scare you.

I don't really "get the willies" from anything, except for two things:

-the "door ajar" sound in my dad's 1996 suburban truck thing.
-Radio waves (or something) that my head picks up.  I don't know if it's just me, but once in a while I hear this high frequency noise that feels like my ears un-popped sometimes.  Other times I just hear it.

Thank you for visting my world, come again ... Now entering reality, welcome back.

The sound of six people snoring in a four person hotel room.  I don't know if I snored.

South Hall at E3 2005.

The "Please load paper ..." voice from my Lexmark printers software.

The metal on metal sound of a slow speed car wreck.

Fighting some rediculously difficult boss person in any game (depends on music, scariness of boss). The hair on my neck stands up and I begin to feel rather cold.

-Alarm clock buzz
-Imaginary screams
-Memory of my brother's eyes glowing in the dark
-Immunization Needles
-Roller coasters
-Being approached

Oh yeah, I forgot all about being approached!

And sometimes when I'm asleep, I'll involuntarily momentarily turn up the volume in my head for a second, and the silence is really loud and hurts a little.

Thank you for visting my world, come again ... Now entering reality, welcome back.

- Alarm clocks (buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz)
- The thought (and/or feel) of my fingernails grinding (?!?)
- Depths (heights don't bother me)

I know there's at least one other sound that totally creeps me out. I can't remember what it is right now, though.

My brother can't stand the sound of any metalware scraping together (silverware scraping, or on a metal plate).

"-Radio waves (or something) that my head picks up. I don't know if it's just me, but once in a while I hear this high frequency noise that feels like my ears un-popped sometimes. Other times I just hear it."
^ That's probably the sound of a CRT somewhere near you. Like a TV screen or computer monitor or something. I hear those all the time.

The really high-pitched sound that a tv or computer makes.

I got some weird ones.

- Listening to my brother "hork" his saliva and then spit in the sink
- Getting shot repeatedly in a Mega Man game (I just got Anniversary for my GC on my bday)
- Listening to baby Mario scream his head off in YI
- Homework

"Do you got a mullet goin’ on?"

If this post is edited, as it probably is, you may be wondering why.  Well let me tell you.  Each of YR’s posts are carefully revised and polished over and over to give you, the reader, the most enjoyable and entertaining material possible.  With his posts you have his own personal guarantee that they are of high quality, contain well-thought out wording, and most likely have a bit of humorous content to keep you interested.  That, my friend, is the Yoshisaurus difference.

I get the extreme, clenched-teeth, body-thundering, williesaurous when I go to erase something with a pencil eraser, but it's  too short so the metal sheathing scratches on the paper/desk. The feeling of that makes me want to bite into someone's arm(hard) and then scream into it.

Time slowed and Reality bent.
But on and on the Eggman went.

Not much really gets to me like this.  I pretty much like to play annoying sounds into my ear.  It's only when I'm taken by surprise that I really can't stand it.  I also like the CRT noise.  Does anyone know the exact frequency of it?  I think it's around 16 KHz.  I also like to play that a lot.
Title: Re: What gives you the willies?

CRT isn't annoying usually, except when I'm in the middle of class and it just happen(it must be from a nearby classroom or something), and I'm the only person who hears it.

I can think of a few, but I can't really put them into words...

Fingernails and windows....Not just the sound, but the fear of the entire nail bending back and being able to come off.

When I get a haircut and the razor goes around my ears, that tickly feeling goes all the way down my back, due to the nerves that go down your back.  Also, when I scratch the middle of the underside of my foot(in between the ball of the foot and the heel), I can feel it in my throat.

Styrophome rubbed against styrophome.  Eeee.  I hate that.  Also (this might be hard to understand) but when your working with that wet clay stuff in Art, and some of it dry onto your finger nails, and you try to scrape it off with your finger nails.  I hate it.  ....and when people scrape their forks against their teeth.

Ech, styrofoam. Another thing I remembered today is the strange feeling you get occasionally when you write with a mechanical pencil perpendicular to the paper... It makes a weird rubbing noise/vibration that I really hate.

When your fork rubs a ceramic plate. And spiders freak me out. It's strange, though. I can watch Harry Potter 2 with Aragog and such, but I won't get in the swimming pool if there's a spider, dead or alive, in/near it.

Oh, mom, you''re back already! Well, before you say anything, the reason I didn''t do my chores was because a really huge bird came and laid an egg in front of my bedroom door so I couldn''t get out, but luckily the egg hatched and the bird ran away a second ago, giving me enough time to clean up the shell before you got home! –Bird Person<(^v^)>

hmm. . .things that annoy me?

-Something sharp like a razor or metal with an edge draging accross the surface of my fingernail, or even digging into my fingernail.
-Heavy storms, i have tornado anxiety big time.
-shaving
-Guys touching my hair (it's not homophobia it's just i have this thing where only girls are allowed to play or touch my hair)

If I went any further, it would just be pet peeves. But those things really bug me. Have fun.

They're just spiders.

I really really hate the sound of brushes brushing something. The sound of a rake on the ground, a broom on the floor, a scrubbie on a desk...

People cracking their knuckles, and making sounds while they eat

*Cracks her knuckles, neck, and back*
*Also loudly slurps her soup and smacks her gum*

I can deal with spiders, as long as they aren't insanely gigantic (X_x;). Ones that are dangling, or on the ceiling or high up on a wall where I can't reach all freak me out, though. *shudder*

What gives me the willies are:
-needles (especially ones being injected)
-blood work or donating blood--anything that involves filling up something with blood. I can handle seeing or hearing details involving blood pretty much in any other way 'cept that and gore, of course. The needles involved in the process don't help any... X_x;  (Yeah, there's no way I could ever donate blood. It's a good cause, but I couldn't do it.)
-metal scraping against Corelle (like, dishes and stuff). That's why to this day I use plastic dishes and bowls unless food in/on it's hot.
-worn glass cups. I can handle drinking glasses, but if they're old and all scratched up, they make me cringe if I have to touch them. At least the main glasses we use at my house give me the willies. I ALWAYS use plastic cups.
-When people pull their joints away from each other as a way to crack their body. Like, I love cracking my knuckles and do it ALL the time, but if someone pulls their fingers to make them crack, it totally freaks me out and makes me cringe.
-When people touch their eyeballs, flip their lids inside out, and other freaky stuff messing with eyes. Oh, and when people put in/take out contact lenses. Seriously, I could NEVER wear contacts X_x
-cold chills
-feeling like something's crawling on me
-feeling like I'm being watched or followed
-talking about things that give people the willies

Markio, I give you the willies? Oooooookaaaaaay. O_o
Actually, you really freak me out, like, all the time. Not in cringing "have the willies" way, but you seriously weird me out. :P

Ooh, I've got one!

Machinery.  Specifically two types:
The large, automated type, be it still or moving.  Grinding gears, hammering pistons... the type of thing that could easily and soullessly crush someone without noticing or caring.
And the sprawling, wirey, duct-work type.  Inflating bellows, palpatating pieces, sinewy cables running all about... Basically that which resembles the innards of some great, artificial being.  If you've ever seen the movie "Brazil", there are lots of good examples in there.

Perhaps these are connected in someway to my hatred of cars...

Additionally, the anticipation of the sensation of rubbing a hard edge against a styrofome cup.
And spiders.  But that's really more of a fear.

Go Moon!
