Title: Mario YouTube video requests/challenges
Post by: Kimimaru on October 20, 2008, 09:59:07 AM
Hello everyone! This is the thread to suggest/tell me any challenges or requests you'd like to see me make a video of. I'll consider every request or challenge put up on here, but I might not do some of them. Please don't suggest anything impossible (Beating the Flipside Pit of 100 Trials in under 10 minutes) or very long (Super Mario Sunshine 100% speedrun, beating the Pit of 100 Trials, collecting every coin in Super Mario Bros.). The requests must be strictly Mario-related and from a Mario game. Sorry that I didn't clarify this earlier. Also, I don't have all the Mario games, so I won't be able to do some requests, sorry. In addition, please don't request too many challenges because I don't usually have too much time on my hands and I might take a while to complete only one request. You have my sincerest apologies for that.

Now that everything is cleared up, you may feel free to start requesting!

I would love to see you do a speedrun of mission in the Dreadnought Galaxy... you know, the one where you have to use bombs to clean up the trash for a power star?

Personally, I think a speedrun is the only way to complete it successfully at all... I had trouble with that mission, yes sir.
Title: Re: Mario YouTube video requests/challenges
Post by: Kimimaru on October 20, 2008, 01:08:24 PM
Good idea, but unfortunately there is one problem with that. There is an obvious limit to how fast you can blow up all of the trash, which will make many other people do the speedrun (if they haven't already) because of how easy it is. In more difficult speedruns, every little thing you do will affect your time. In this speedrun, mostly all that you have to do is pick up the bob-ombs and throw them all in the right spots. I'm very sorry, but I don't think I'll go through with this speedrun :(.

Ah, well... I actually expected something like that.

...how fast can you do a 100-man melee?

Film yourself making a half-court shot.

Turtlekid1: Sorry, but please try to make another challenge that's more directly related to Mario games. You posted it before I edited my post, so I'm sorry about that.

Nintendoobsessed: I'll try to get to that. I can't really record handhelds with my new camcorder, unless you know a way I can A/V record a handheld without putting it into a Super Gameboy.

CrossEyed7: I'll try to get to that.

Chupperson Wierd: That's not related to a Mario game, sorry. I know that you posted it before I edited my post.

Lizard Dude: That's not related to a Mario game either, sorry. You also posted it before I edited my post, so I'm sorry for that as well.

Record the credits for SMB.

Record playing as Luigi in SM64.

Record Miyamoto saying, "Mario sucks".

How about getting Toad's ending (if you want to call it that) in Mario Tennis 64 (any cup will do).

Nintendoobsessed: I'll try to get to that. I can't really record handhelds with my new camcorder, unless you know a way I can A/V record a handheld without putting it into a Super Gameboy.

Use a Gameboy Player, if possible.

Try to beat the Anti Guys Unit in Paper Mario in 3 turns or less. (it is possible, you must be exactly level 17 or 18 with 30 BP and 5 HP)

And if Nintendoobsessed didn't specify a level in the SMBDX thing, could you make it world 2-3?

Nah, I meant making a half-court shot in Mario Hoops 3-on-3.

I will never be discouraged!
Would you be willing to do any purple coin speedruns?
Title: Re: Mario YouTube video requests/challenges
Post by: Toad on October 21, 2008, 05:13:28 PM
I know I've already posted a request, but I just noticed something weird..

In the Loop-De-Swoop Galaxy (the second Manta surfing course, part of the Trial Galaxies), there is a platfrom that has sling star and a giant ?-Coin (I guess that's hwat you call it. The same kind of coin that triggers the Bee Shroom in the Beebee Kingdom) As you are surfing through the course, it is just after the second 1up in the course, a ways behind those panels that have Star Bits attached to them.

As of yet, I have found no way to get across the giant gap on the Manta, but after you finish the course, you can do a spin jump off the coach's head, and if you are pressing toward the front gate of the course, you might be able to land on one of the points on the star gate, thus enabling you to swim the course without the Manta.

I've explored the course before, but never noticed those platforms and sling star until last night. Has anybody else found out why they are there?
Title: Re: Mario YouTube video requests/challenges
Post by: Kimimaru on October 21, 2008, 06:10:23 PM
Yeah, I know about that. I think you have to get a good record in the course and go to the right where the other penguins and a Sling Star are. After going through the Sling Star, you fly far across the course and you touch a ? Coin, which makes Star Bits appear. There are 3 Sling Stars I think. After the first one, you land on that platform with a Sling star and a ? Coin, which will cause even more Star Bits to appear. After that is yet another platform with a Sling Star and a final ? Coin which will cause more Star Bits to appear. After going through that last Sling Star, you end up back where you started, which is the platform where the coach is.

Toad: I don't have Mario Tennis for the N64, sorry. I also don't have a Gameboy Player either.

jdaster64: I'll think about that. As for SMBDX, I'll try it if I'm able to find a way to record Gameboy Color games with my camcorder.

Turtlekid1: I'll do a purple coin speedrun, but is there a particular one that you want me to do most? I'm best at Space Junk Galaxy's Purple Coins and Luigi's Purple Coins in Toy Time Galaxy.

Sorry about that, I didn't completely clarify Luigi's Purple Coins. I meant that I'm best at a speedrun of getting all 150 Purple Coins, not just 100.

Definitely Luigi's Purple Coins.

All 150? I would love to see Luigi's purple coins indeed.

All of Luigi's 150 Purple Coins it is then.

Sqrt2: I'll think about that.

Linkin800: That isn't a Mario game, sorry.

jdaster64: I'd have to make a new file for your request, and I honestly don't want to create a new file and get up to them again to record myself beating them in 3 turns or less, sorry.
Title: Re: Mario YouTube video requests/challenges
Post by: Kimimaru on October 27, 2008, 03:55:07 PM
I'm currently working on the Luigi's Purple Coins speedrun, getting all 150 purple coins in the process. It'll take a while because I need to make a faster path than my current one.

CrossEyed, I'll get to your request after this one because this one is in higher demand, sorry.

Ouch. I feel your pain. Especially when I hit level 19 right before fighting them, forcing me to upgrade my HP after 12 hours of play time.

All of Luigi's 150 Purple Coins successfully completed! I'll post it in Mario Chat once it gets uploaded onto YouTube. Also, please don't request anything at the moment, because I'm working on a video myself, sorry.

I probably won't be able to do the "orbiting around something as long as I can" challenge because the shrinking planet is the best place to do it, and there are already many YouTube videos of people doing that, sorry.

Have you ever heard of VIP Mario, VIP Mario 2, VIP Mario 3, or VIP Mario 4. Well Look them up on Yuotube. This guy named Vowcow does it. I would like you to research them and get information on it and also make a game similar like this. Thank you.

Since my other ideas were kind of "out there", how about speedrunning all 139 coins in Hazy Maze Cave? That would take 20 minutes, tops, to get to on a new file and can be done with any star in the course.

Wario: Sorry, but I didn't mention anything about making a game. This is a thread for posting Mario challenges or requests in existing Mario games. Plus, I don't have any experience in making games nor do I want to make games at the moment, sorry.

jdaster64: Well, I've seen a video on YouTube about that, and at the moment, I'm not taking requests, sorry. I'm working on a video that I decided to make.

Oh! I'm very sorry, but I mistook that for a 100 coin speedrun. Again, I'm very sorry.

Now for some rather unfortunate news:

My camcorder is experiencing some technical difficulties. After I finished A/V recording something, the LCD screen turned black and only stays like that no matter what I do. I can record videos, but to delete my videos, I have to plug my camcorder into my computer each time and delete them from there. I hope someone can help me with this.

I'm sorry, but the VCR I use to plug my camcorder's A/V plugs into has stopped working. I might get one in a few days though. Sorry again guys.

I'm now able to record again! I got this great switchbox that lets me input many things into my T.V.! Another interesting thing to note is that I am also able to record without a T.V. using the switchbox's help. I can plug a console and my camcorder into the switchbox, and I can play directly from the LCD screen on my camcorder. Anyway, my latest video is on Mario Chat. It's called "Super Mario Sunshine - Completing Corona Mountain Without The Boat." I chose to do it myself, and it wasn't requested by anyone. I am now open to all requests/challenges; however, I'm currently not accepting any requests/challenges from the following games, sorry:

Super Mario Sunshine
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Paper Mario
Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door
Paper Mario
Super Mario RPG Legend Of The Seven Stars
Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga
Mario and Luigi Partners In Time

Maybe you should post what games you have, that way we know what we can and can't request (sort of like when I tried my Mario Tennis 64 request, I didn't know you didn't have it). It's just an idea.

Here's one for Mario Kart: try to finish at least one lap in 150 without losing any Coins (being hit by items, other racers, or being towed by Lakitu). Any track/character is fine, though using Toad will get you brownie points.

Is doing something like that considered hard? I'm sorry, but I haven't played Super Mario Kart that much. If it is a hard thing to do then I'll consider it.

I think it is.. I can't seem to get into 1st without bumping at least one other character. I guess I should revise and say any track in any cup is fine..

I got to your challenge, and I've completed the video! I packed in a little more than what you asked. I haven't really played this game much at all, so the skills you will see in the video are derived from other Mario Kart games. Anyway, I'm not going to put the video up right away because I want to allow a larger time gap between videos, sorry. Expect it to be put up in a couple of days. Thanks for the challenge; I really enjoyed making the video!

After obtaining Kuribo's Shoe or the Frog Suit in SMB3 how far can you get without losing it.  It'd be cool to see someone beat the game with one of those items.
Luigison, please post that in my Mario YouTube requests/challenges thread please. It's nothing personal, but I'd just like every challenge or request to be in one spot because I might reconsider some requests that I've already turned down.
Done.

There will be a hold up on videos for now because I sent my camcorder to Aiptek by UPS so I can get a new one for free. The next video I will make is going to be on my own. Here's the list of Mario games I have:

Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros. 2
Super Mario Bros. 2 (J)
Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario Land
Super Mario All-Stars (Doesn't include Super Mario World)
Super Mario World
Super Mario Bros. DX
Super Mario 64
Super Mario Sunshine
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario RPG Legend Of The Seven Stars
Paper Mario
Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga
Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door
Mario & Luigi Partners In Time
Super Paper Mario
Super Mario Kart
Mario Kart 64
Mario Kart Double Dash!!
Mario Kart DS
Mario Kart Wii
Mario Power Tennis

There may be some more games that I'm forgetting. I have yet to find an easy and efficient way to record games for handheld systems in high-quality, so I can't take any requests for those, sorry. Aside from those, I'm currently not taking requests from the following games:

Super Mario World
Super Mario Sunshine
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario RPG Legend Of The Seven Stars
Paper Mario
Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga
Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door
Mario & Luigi Partners In Time
Super Paper Mario

Tubular - I do it every time w/o P-Balloons, w/o Cape is much harder but still possible.
Cheese Bridge (secret) - Quite easy, actually, though I just thought about how to do it recently.

I might even do these myself and make a video.

Incidentally, the only goal in the game for which a Cape is needed is the Donut Ghost House secret.

The way jdaster requested is the way I've ALWAYS done it. Just take a Yoshi near the goal, jump under, then launch up and abandon Yoshi to his demise. (I was always terrible at flying)

That's ok Kimimaru, jdaster64 and Raccoon Sam. I now realize that the challenge is too long (even for youtube). So I'll think of another challenge for all of you soon.

I have just received my camcorder back! I am now open to all requests/challenges on the following games:

Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros. 2
Super Mario Bros. 2 (J)
Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario Land
Super Mario All-Stars (Doesn't include Super Mario World)
Super Mario Bros. DX
Super Mario 64
Super Mario Kart
Mario Kart 64
Mario Kart Double Dash!!
Mario Kart Wii
Mario Power Tennis
Mario Party
Mario Party 2
Mario Party 3

I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting some games, but try requesting one and I'll see if I can find it.

In the Challenge Mode in SMB DX, score at least 300,000 points in any one level. I have done this before, and it does not require any glitches. P.S. Bonus awesome points if you hit exactly 300000 or 400000.

That's not a bad challenge, but personally I would be a little more interested in doing something that you haven't done yet. If you want, try challenging me to do something in a certain amount of time, without a normal requirement, or without a power-up or upgrade.

Well, figure out a way to beat 6-5 in SMB3 without using Raccoon/Tanooki Suit.

Okay, I'll try to find a way. I have to complete 2 videos on my own first, and I don't have too much leisure time these days, so I'll tell you if/when I find out how to do it.
I will actually have a lot of free time this weekend and next week, so I'll try my best to complete my videos.

Super Mario 64 - Try to get on top of the castle, WITHOUT using the cannon (apparently it IS possible to do).

Super Mario Sunshine - Exactly the same thing, but on the Shine Gate instead (again, apparently it IS possible to do).

SMRPG: Beat Culex, without any of your party members dying.

And for a joke challenge:

Mario Kart Wii - Do an entire 150cc course with 11 CPU's, without getting hit by a Blue Shell/Bullet Bill (not even once).

I know I've gotten to the top of the shine gate without ... wait, cannons? Where are cannons in SMS?
And yes, you can get on the castle due to a glitch.
Title: Re: Mario YouTube video requests/challenges

The only cannons in SMS are to send you to other levels. He might've been thinking of Chucksters, but I don't recall those putting you anywhere near the Shine Gate. Maybe he was thinking of the Rocket Nozzle?

I'm very sorry jdaster64, but I have tried everything to try and beat level 6-5 in Super Mario Bros. 3 without using the Tanooki Leaf or Tanooki Suit, and I was unable to beat it. I even resorted to try manipulating the wall-jump glitch, but it didn't work out. Again, I'm very sorry.

You don't really need anything besides the Hover Nozzle.

Sqrt2: I'm sorry, but I'm currently not accepting any videos for Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, and there are already some videos of people doing the Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine challenges that you requested. Again, I'm sorry.

It seems like your running out of Mario game requests, Kimimaru. Do you have Zelda games? Like Wind Waker? Maybe you or jdaster64 can try beating Ganon with no extra hearts or beat the bosses in a speed run.
Title: Re: Mario YouTube video requests/challenges

I'm not really running out of Mario requests. It's just that I'm a little strict on what goes on my profile.

I have some Zelda games, but the only one I'm very good at is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time. I'm only taking requests from Mario games though, sorry.

That's alright. I have a request. In SMG on the Freezeflame Galaxy, try to be Fire Mario all the way through the level and get a star. You can pick any level and star, but you have to be Fire Mario the entire time.
Title: Re: Mario YouTube video requests/challenges
Post by: Kimimaru on January 29, 2009, 06:06:18 PM
How is that possible? There aren't any Fire Flowers in the beginning of a level, and it doesn't last too long. If I kept getting the Fire Flower from a spawn point, there either might not be another Fire Flower later, or it might end before I'm able to get to another Fire Flower.
Title: Re: Mario YouTube video requests/challenges

Hmm. Well I didn't mean to say at the very start of the level. It's been awhile since I played SMG, but I thought for sure that was possible. Anyway, never mind that request, sorry. I'll think of another challenge soon.

That's OK, it might be possible, but probably would take more timing than beating Tubular with no powerup, Yoshi, or P-Balloon. :P

Also, FBMardio, I own a very limited selection of games, and a only so good at most of them. (e.g. I haven't even cleared Very Hard Classic on SSBM without a continue). The games I listed on my thread are the only ones I coud probably take requests for. Sorry...

I know it has been a while, but I still haven't finished the video. I had almost no free time over the course of these past few weeks. Ironically, I'd completely forgotten that request.  Even more so, I've been trying to get all of the coins in SM64 recently.  Maybe just see how fast you can collect all of the coins in course 7 with no restrictions? (Extra kudos if you can do it without the shell)

That or collect over 150 coins in Snowman's Land, making use of a little-known glitch...

Title: Re: Mario YouTube video requests/challenges
Post by: Kimimaru on June 10, 2009, 06:40:35 PM
What I do before I start recording is connect a video game system to the input jacks on a VCR I have, which is connected to a plasma screen HD television. Then, I take the A/V cords from my camera and put them into the output jacks on the VCR. Finally, I plug the other end of the A/V cords into my camcorder, turn on the video game system, and press "Record" whenever I'm ready to record.

Title: A really cruel challenge
Post by: Nintendoobsessed on June 22, 2009, 04:57:37 PM
You do Super Mario 64, right?

Here's a just plain evil challenge:

Go to Lethal Lava Land(Course 7), get the shell, and then get EVERY SINGLE COIN in the level-except for the ones in the volcano-without touching the lava(Except when getting the coins under the bridge)! Then go, and grab the Red Rolling Log Star, without touching the ground! (You can start touching the lava at that point)

It's certainly possible, but sorry, I'm not going to take that challenge because it's very time consuming and luck-based (if you hit the bullies into the lava, there is a chance that the coins they drop will fly away from you into the lava).

I completely forgot about your pictures until I played Super Mario Galaxy earlier today, Toad. I'm sorry for the wait, but I got them all! The Sling Stars can only be found in the second course, which is located in the Loopdeswoop Galaxy on the star, "The Galaxy's Greatest Wave."

(https://themushroomkingdom.net/board/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi300.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn38%2FKimimaru4000%2FSuperMarioGalaxyLoopdeswoopGalaxy.jpg&hash=c19e402e8fdeb4092ac83db3828e72f0)

This is where the sling star would be once you beat the course.

After completing the course and seeing the star...

(https://themushroomkingdom.net/board/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi300.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn38%2FKimimaru4000%2FSuperMarioGalaxyLoopdeswoopGalaxy2.jpg&hash=982192512fe554445118bcb42012071f)

...move back to that same spot to find a Sling Star!

(https://themushroomkingdom.net/board/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi300.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn38%2FKimimaru4000%2FSuperMarioGalaxyLoopdeswoopGalaxy3.jpg&hash=6bcfd5fe59f7fde075f62ec28f2608bf)

After going on the Sling Star you will touch a ? Coin.

(https://themushroomkingdom.net/board/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi300.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn38%2FKimimaru4000%2FSuperMarioGalaxyLoopdeswoopGalaxy4.jpg&hash=e3b5e652ac091519a9047d4ee292d0a9)

The ? Coin will reveal circles of Star Bits for you to collect!

(https://themushroomkingdom.net/board/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi300.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn38%2FKimimaru4000%2FSuperMarioGalaxyLoopdeswoopGalaxy5.jpg&hash=af858a96e93793f728b36b98c892f564)

After the first Sling Star you will land on a platform that has a tree, a penguin, and another Sling Star.

(https://themushroomkingdom.net/board/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi300.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn38%2FKimimaru4000%2FSuperMarioGalaxyLoopdeswoopGalaxy6.jpg&hash=0eb452a690870d46a0d43cb5169c9009)

After going on the second Sling Star, you will go through another ? Coin and collect even more Star Bits. You will eventually land on another platform. Unlike the other one, this one doesn't have anything on it except for a Sling Star.

(https://themushroomkingdom.net/board/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi300.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fnn38%2FKimimaru4000%2FSuperMarioGalaxyLoopdeswoopGalaxy7.jpg&hash=feab2d73960dac5a4c4ba6cddb5babb9)

After going on that Sling Star, you will end up back where you started.

I hope that cleared things up for you!

What I've tried doing for the sheer challenge factor is in SMW, trying doing runthroughs on each stage while continuously holding the down button so that Mario is crouching constantly when on the ground. It gets pretty difficult since you can't move unless you jump, and when you hit the ground you can't move the opposite direction to make up for SMW's slippery physics.

As a matter of fact, I've actually completed almost every level in New Super Mario Bros. while doing that. The only levels I couldn't complete were the ones that couldn't be completed at all by doing that.

To preface, I realize this is a very old topic and that you're at college currently, but I wanted to post this here before it slipped my mind.

If you have any time over the summer, could you try to beat all three of the main stars in Gold Leaf Galaxy without using the Bee Suit?  I've done the first one myself, but the second and third seem a bit harder (probably still possible, though).

Sounds good! I'll try to do it later today, but I won't be able to record it until I get back home.

Yeah, don't worry Weegee; I didn't forget about that one.

Whoops, I forgot there was a second thread.  Don't suppose it matters all that much, as it was still a good year old.

Update: I have already confirmed to jdaster64 that beating all three of those stars without the Bee Suit is indeed possible. I will get to work on Weegee's request once I get back home.
