Mario Chat / Re: Mario movie compared to games...
« on: June 12, 2000, 10:53:45 AM »
I don't remember Toad, Yoshi, Big Bertha, Iggy, or Spike in the movie.  I guess I'll have to watch it again, I haven't seen it for a couple years.  If memory serves, Koopa looked like a human (except for those scales on his head) but in the end he reverted to his true dinosaurlike form.  That movie was made on too low a budget to really be true to the games, it was madt to be more or less in our world instead of a surreal (and expensive) Mario world.

At least it's more like the games than the movie was.

Noh.  It looks like the masks used in Japanese Noh or Kabuki theater.

I miss Mallow.  I'm not too sure about Geno, though.  Mallow had potential.

I think that in the next "Mario" game Princess Toadstool should be able to fight the bad guys.  In "Mario 2" she was indespensible, with that floating thing.  I always thought there should be a game where Mario is captured and the Princess has to rescue him.  Then "Mario is Missing" came out, but (from what I can tell from the commercials) Luigi is the main character looking for Mario.

B.T.W.-My brother says that in "M64-2" Peach should be dressed like Xena.  I disagree.

Mario Chat / Re: Favorite Mario Episode of all Time
« on: June 10, 2000, 01:19:51 PM »
I remember that episode!  It was the one with the triangle block, right?  My favorite was the "Mario 3" one where everyone gets trapped in some sort of underwater land.  I thought it was cool because it had everyone, even the Princess and Toad getting powers from blocks, showing that it's not just Mario and Luigi that can do that.  They showed it once on C.B.S. Saturday morning in like 1990 but I never saw it again.

Mario Chat / Re: Favorite Non-Bowser Villain
« on: June 10, 2000, 12:06:17 PM »
Wart!  Wart is good, people just don't like him (and the "American" "Super Mario Bros. 2") because he's different.  He organized his minions and created his empire in a way entirely separate from the villain mainstream, and represents the greatest non-Koopa-affiliated enemy boss.  Wart needs to return.  Better yet, there could be a game about conflict between rival evil powers (i.e. Bowser, Wart, Wario, Kamek, Tatanga, etc.).

Are you kidding?  Ludwig is like the toughest Koopa.

Mario Chat / Re: Women of the Mushroom Kingdom

The Mushroom Retainers were presumably female, since some sources call them "Mushroom Girls."  I always thought Birdo was a species (or 3, green, purple, and red; or maybe it's 3 sup-species or 3 races, I don't know the "Mario" taxonomy) not an individual.  The Birdo character is named Catherine.  Cheep-Cheeps are male and female, they're fish!  Lakitu is a woman, right?

I haven't gotten to play "Mario is Missing" or any of the other games you mentioned, besides "Wario Woods."  I didn't even get a Super Nintendo until about 2 years ago, and got an N64 only a couple months ago, and I haven't gotten a chance to buy or rent many of the games, since so many of the older ones are no longer available.  "Mario is Missing" looked pretty neat to me, but I haven't played it or even seen a demo.  "Return of the Mario Bros." was an arcade and Atari release that was a sequel to the original arcade "Mario Bros." with more levels, more enemies, better graphics and better game play.  Sadly, I have never been able to play it and it seems to have been available for only a short time.  I love "Mario Bros" even if it is a little unsophisticated compared to newer games, and I would very much like to find a copy or download or something of the sequel.

Mario Chat / Re: Mario and Japanese Mythology

Really?  Because I know one of the names for Heaven or supernatural paradise in Japanese mythology is "Ninfotendou," and that seemed to me where the word "Nintendo" came from.

Or they could make a "Super Mario All-Stars" that had previous "Mario" games for regular Nintendo and Super Nintendo and other "extinct" systems so they could be played on a Nintendo 64.

-NINTENDO-

Super Mario Bros. 5: Yoshi's Island
Mario is Missing
Yoshi's Safari
Wario's Woods
