There's the Tanuki/Tanooki and Kitsuni/Katsuni, and then the Obakes and the like and, of course, Kappa Mountain, all mentioned on this site.  There's other stuff, like the idea that mushrooms can transport magicians to a sort of otherworld.  There's probably much more, I have read some Japanese mythology and know where to look up more.  I'll come back with more info.

I have an original Nintendo.  Actually, it isn't mine, it was bought by a relative of mine in 1988 along with a cartridge that contains "Super Mario Bros." and "Duck Hunt."  It is in perfect working order and has been played only a few hours since it was purchased.  Come to think of it, it is probably worth something, if anyone claiming possession of it would ever want to sell it.  I never play the "All Stars" "Super Mario Bros.," just the classic one, which I think is of better quality, even if the graphics are a little less defined as in the Super N.E.S. retooling.

Goombas are the #1 Koopa!  They have appeared in no less than 18 separate "Mario" games (if you count "Super Mario All-Stars" as 1 game) on 7 American game systems.

Red Koopa Troopas come in at a distant second with 14 games.

Then again, I was working toward the best possible movie when, it seems from the actual "Super Mario Bros." film the makers were trying to create the WORST possible movie based (loosely) on Mario.  Here is a (not so serious) cast list of a "Mario" movie devised thinking like the type of Hollywood movie makers that let films like "Armageddon" and "Scream 3" go into production.

"Shifting Platforms Ahead" drove me half crazy!  I just had to beat that place and I would play that one level for hours straight until the beginning became mind-numbingly monotonous.  I started seeing shifting platforms whenever I closed my eyes.  I finally beat it and I don't plan to play that level ever again.

I prefer the "Super Mario Bros. 3" Koopa Troopas and Paratroopas, but, then again I prefer pretty much everything from "Mario 3" over pretty much everything else.  : )

Will somebody here settle an argument?  My brother insiste that the green Koopa Troopas in "Mario 3" look like budgies.  I don't see the resemblence, do you?
