If you mean that spot in the middle of the intersection, those extra pixels are probably just there to make it look more natural and less like a plus sign. Nothing ever appears there.

It kinda bothered me how you couldn't make a 90-degree turn from one path onto another there...

Well, there are lots of situations where it can be fun to tinker with the different settings like that.  Emulation might allow you to extract game assets or discover secrets in the code.  Sometimes an emulator can even improve the experience, say, by increasing the resolution a game is rendered at.  But I still like accuracy, and my PC's not set up for serious modern gaming, so I mostly use emulators for handhelds or very old systems in general.

Yeah, now that I think about it, it seems like the Virtual Console was probably targeted at people who didn't like the Game Boy Advance updates and just want straight emulation of the originals.  But I like the idea that the old games are still evolving...
