Doesn't want to read the cartridges. The light still turns on, but it doesn't want to read any of my games. I could always get games like Mario 64 (games that aren't enhanced by rumble pack) on VC, but I refuse to do that with Zelda. Call me a purist, but once you play OoT with rumble, you are not going back!

I don't have any advice for your problem (might just have to get a new N64, looks to be about $20-$30 on eBay) but I do want to commend your support and understanding of rumble.
People who use Wavebirds are only hurting themselves.

It sometimes happens to me; just try adjusting the cartridge's position in the console (when it's turned off) or blow in it (just to dislodge/remove any dust). You could also always check the AV connections at the back of the TV (obvious, but you never know if a cord has been knocked loose); apart from that, I don't know.

Clean your cartridges with alcohol on a q-tip and also while a cart is wet rub it up and down in the N64 cartridge slot. If it doesn't work once, do it again. Eventually you should get it clean. If not, I guess you have to get a new N64. But I bet you won't have to.

Let's hope so. They shouldn't be too dirty. The console and the box storing the games were up in my closet for a few months. If my Wii is able to read Brawl's disc, which it does, the environment it was in shouldn't have been too dusty, since they were in the same room. I'll look for some rubbing alcohol next weekend

Optical drives and cartridge connector slots don't have very much (anything) in common. Sitting in your closet, the N64's and cartridges' connector pins could get all nice and oxidized and unable to read the carts. You could also just try vigorously rubbing a cart up and down in the N64 and see if you can clean anything that way.

My N64 has been having similar problems, but I have two N64's, so I haven't really made any effort to clean it.

You also might try making sure that the Jumper Pak or Expansion Pak isn't loose. If it isn't inserted completely, you'll just get a black screen.

If you have a GC or a Wii (and some extra spending money) you could go out and find the OoT/Master Quest disc. I saw one at a local game trading shop recently (before they went out of business).

Well get smaller q-tips or use some cotton balls. When my 64 acted like this i just cleaned it and it worked fine. So maybe thats the problem.

Don't use q-tips on the N64, use them on the cart. While the cart still has alcohol on it you stick it in the N64 to clean the N64.
