Title: Text Adventure
Post by: Mack_The_Knife on September 13, 2007, 06:12:10 PM
You all remember Zork and the other old text adventure computer games, right? Well in this game, you must type in what the player should do and also what happens to him.

Example:

Post 1) You are in a ROOM. obvious exits are NORTH and SOUTH. What do you do?
        >GO SOUTH

Post 2) It is very dark. You may be eaten by a GRUE. What do you do?
        >RUN AWAY

...and so on

Make sure to capitilize key words and certain objects like SOUTH, DOOR, and other important stuff. If you see a person, ask him anything! Once you enter a room you must remember whats in the room, and don't forget NOT to change anything.

Now to Start!!!
--------------------------------------------------
You are standing in an open FIELD west of a white HOUSE, with a boarded front DOOR. There is a small MAILBOX here. Obvious exits are IN and WEST. What do you do?

 > OPEN DOOR

As you open the DOOR, a crazy GRUE kicks you in the FAMILY JEWELS.

***You have died***

But hey, whaddaya know? This being a fantasy game and all, I suppose I can resurrect you somewhere random...

Inside Mailbox
You are inside the MAILBOX. It's DARK, and CRAMPED.

> LOOK AT MAIL

It is too dark to read the MAIL.

> OPEN MAILBOX
Title: Re: Text Adventure
Post by: WarpRattler on September 15, 2007, 11:46:04 AM
You open the mailbox.

> exit mailbox

You exit the mailbox.

> open door

You cannot open the door. It is boarded up.

> inventory

You have a rope, a stick, and a blessed spellbook of force bolt.

> zap force bolt at door

You hit the door with a force bolt! It is blown off its hinges, and falls down, crushing the grue that was hiding behind the door.

> e

You enter the house. There is an unlit fireplace, with an elaborate sword hanging over the mantle. You are standing on top of a door with a grue corpse under it.

> take sword

You take the sword.

> eat grue

What do you think this is, Soviet Russia? You can't eat the grue.

> w

You are standing outside. (Now I'm going to go back to you guys' command formatting.)

> WEST

You go WEST. You are now standing in an open FIELD, there is a MAN there, and lots of GRASS.

> TALK MAN
Title: Re: Text Adventure
Post by: Glorb on September 17, 2007, 02:17:37 PM
The mans stands there, puzzled. "TALK MAN?" he scoffs. "You seem to have mistaken me for one of those ignoramic two-word-parser guys. As you can clearly see, I am fully capable of both giving and recieving speech in perfect English, and I am, quite frankly, offended that you would assume that I am incapable of basic verb inflection and vocabulary skills. Perhaps you should go talk to one of those cats on the Internet I hear so much about. Meanwhile, I bid you farewell. Farewell, and never darken my doorstep again."

***You have been served***
Title: Re: Text Adventure
Post by: Rao on September 17, 2007, 08:30:46 PM
You walk away from the MAN, and go EAST. There is a tall TOWER, and a big TREE.

> GO TOWER
Title: Re: Text Adventure
Post by: Mack_The_Knife on September 18, 2007, 07:10:31 AM
You are outside of the  TOWER. There is a ROPE hanging from the WINDOW. The only entrance seems to be UP.
Title: Re: Text Adventure
Post by: Glorb on September 18, 2007, 03:09:41 PM
>down

What the crap, man? I just said to go UP.

>up

That's better.

As you climb up, you seem to feel dizzy...

[your charisma just went down]
Title: Re: Text Adventure
Post by: Mack_The_Knife on September 18, 2007, 04:39:41 PM
You get so dizzy you fall off the ROPE.

You are in a HOLE shaped like your own IMPRESSION. It is too high to go UP. It is also very dark, and you may be eaten by a GRUE.

>MAKE FIRE
Title: Re: Text Adventure
Post by: Glorb on September 19, 2007, 01:44:28 PM
Now, just how do you expect to do that? Let's look at your inventory.

>inventory

You are carrying:

a ball of mashed potatoes
an empty shotgun (stolen from old man Johnson)
a wet piece of string

Obviously, not enough to make a fire.

>make fire

Okay, fine, whatever. A fire appears out of nowhere, against all logic.

[Your score just went down by 2 points]

There, that should compensate, cheaty.
Title: Re: Text Adventure
Post by: Rao on September 19, 2007, 02:22:50 PM
The light from the FIRE illuminates the rest of the HOLE you are in. Suddenly, a GIANT WOLF jumps out of the shadows and lunges at you!
Title: Re: Text Adventure
Post by: Suffix on September 20, 2007, 12:17:28 AM
> USE STRING

You hold the wet STRING like a clothesline, causing the GIANT WOLF to clamp down around it. The string must be saturated with something really gross, because the GIANT WOLF whines and hobbles off as if you had hit it with a desk lamp.

> LOOK

You're still in that HOLE. With your CHEATED FIRE, you can see that there is a TENNIS BALL CYLINDER lying on the ground, dejected. There are no apparent exits.

> LOOK CYLINDER
Title: Re: Text Adventure
Post by: Rao on September 20, 2007, 09:33:04 AM
You look in the TENNIS BALL CYLINDER, and find an old SPELL BOOK,  a small KNIFE, and a beat-up PENDANT.

> READ SPELL BOOK

You read the SPELL BOOK, looking for a LEVITATING spell, or something that will get you out of this HOLE you're in.
Title: Re: Text Adventure
Post by: Mack_The_Knife on September 20, 2007, 12:44:33 PM
> LOOK PENDANT

On the back of the PENDANT, it says "IF LOST RETURN TO MARLIE." Apparently, now YOU have a job: find out who MARLIE is, and return her PENDANT.
Title: Re: Text Adventure
Post by: Rao on September 20, 2007, 02:43:01 PM
> LOOK KNIFE

The blade of the KNIFE is marked with strange RUNES. Maybe you can find out what they mean in the SPELL BOOK you have.
Title: Re: Text Adventure
Post by: Glorb on September 20, 2007, 04:09:07 PM
>read book

Which book do you mean, the spell book, the cookbook, or the Punch Man special-edition graphic novel collection?

>spell book

You open the book to a random page and begin reading.
Title: Re: Text Adventure
Post by: Mack_The_Knife on September 23, 2007, 11:50:30 AM
The BOOK has a SPELL to make YOU LEVITATE. To perform IT, YOU must:

PUT YOUR RIGHT FOOT IN
PUT YOUR RIGHT FOOT OUT
SHAKE YOUR BUTT
STAND ON YOUR HEAD
SAY "MACKTHEKNIFERULES"
Title: Re: Text Adventure

>PUT  RIGHT FOOT IN

>PUT  RIGHT FOOT OUT

>SHAKE  BUTT

>STAND ON  HEAD

>SAY "MACKTHEKNIFERULES"

Good job! You performed the SPELL, so now you LEVITATE out of the HOLE.  Now all you have to do is find out who MARLIE is.

>SELF

Your score is -2
Your charisma is low.
Your health points are 3/15. Looks like you need food badly. Whoops... wrong game.

What will you do now?

>FIND BURGER KING

> Found Burger King

Good job! Now you have the choice of doing 1 of these 2 tasks:

> Jumping off a cliff
> Rolling downhill off of a huge hill

Hehe, forget the options! These are the real ones:

> Minus 2 points
> Lose a life
Title: Re: Text Adventure

A wizard appears out of nowhere and takes away two, uh, points. "Well, that was easy," says the wizard.

>jump
Title: Re: Text Adventure
Post by: Suffix on September 24, 2007, 02:10:45 PM
You jumped upward, clumsily. It wasn't long before you fell. The wizard leaves due to lack of interest.

> CHUMP

Yes, you're a chump.

> LOOK

You are in an empty parking lot. There is a BURGER KING to the SOUTH, a FOUL FRIGHTENING AND FESTERING FOREST to the FWEST, and a YAK to the EAST.

> GO FWEST YOUNG MAN
Title: Re: Text Adventure

>GO SOUTH
Title: Re: Text Adventure
Post by: Mack_The_Knife on September 25, 2007, 05:31:53 PM
YOU are standing outside a BURGER KING. The BURGER KING is closed. YOU could PICK the LOCK, but your GUILE is too low. YOU see a SHINY OBJECT on top of the SIGN.

> UP
Title: Re: Text Adventure
Post by: Suffix on September 26, 2007, 01:47:22 AM
You use the LEVITATION spell to move upward near the sign.

> GET SHINY OBJECT

You grab the SHINY OBJECT, and at once, swiftly meet the ground again. You lose one HP. The SHINY OBJECT is seriously heavy! With some difficulty, you place it in your INVENTORY.

> LOOK SHINY OBJECT

It appears to be a GOLF BALL. Have you no upper body strength!?

> LOOK GOLF BALL

It appears to be a SHINY OBJECT. Have you no upper body strength?!

> LOOK SHINY OBJECT SRSLY

SRSLY, huh? All right, upon closer examination, you realize that it is a GOLF BALL.
Just kidding! It's a CONCENTRATED POTION DISPENSING ORB, made from CONCENTRATE. It has 8/10 uses left.

> GO NORTH

You return to the strangely large and empty parking lot. There are three exits, all of which are not north.

> GO EAST
Title: Re: Text Adventure
Post by: Mack_The_Knife on September 28, 2007, 12:52:01 PM
YOU find yourself standing over a CLIFF. Looking DOWN, you see QUICKSAND, a pit of RATTLESNAKES, and a TREASURE: SILVER GOBLET.

>THROW KNIFE

THROW KNIFE at WHAT?

>THROW KNIFE AT SNAKES
Title: Re: Text Adventure
Post by: Rao on September 30, 2007, 01:28:26 PM
You throw your KNIFE at the pit of RATTLESNAKES, and watch as it KILLS each one and comes flying back at you.

> CATCH KNIFE

You catch the KNIFE by the hilt in your hand.

> GO TREASURE
Title: Re: Text Adventure
Post by: The Chef on September 30, 2007, 01:55:56 PM
You are standing in front of the SLIVER GOBLET. It looks perfect for drinking from.

>TAKE SILVER GOBLET.

It might may not be YE FLASK, but upon touching it's surface, the SLIVER GOBLET emits a VORTEX which flings off into an UNKNOWN AREA.

> LOOK

You seem to be in an OUBLIETTE.

> A WHAT?

You seem to be in an OUBLIETTE.

> GET DICTIONARY

I don't see a DICTIONARY.

> GET DICTIONARY

Oh, fine. A DICTIONARY pops into your HANDS.
(your score has just gone down by two points)

> LOOK UP OUBLIETTE IN DICTIONARY

An OUBLIETTE was a form of DUNGEON which was accessible only from a HATCH in a high CEILING. To EXIT an OUBLIETTE was nearly impossible without outside HELP. The WORD comes from the French OUBLIER, "to forget," as it was USED for those PRISONERS the CAPTORS wished to FORGET. Most PRISONERS were left to DIE of STARVATION.

...in other WORDS, you are doomed.

You are standing in a FOREST.

> LOOK

You LOOK around and see lots of TREES, VINES, FRIENDLY-LOOKING CREATURES and THREATENING-LOOKING CREATURES. There is a CLEARING a few yards away.

> INVENTORY

You have a ROPE, a POCKETKNIFE, and a BIG WALKING STICK.

YOU are standing in a CLEARING. It is DULL.

> GO WEST CLEARING

YOU are standing in a CLEARING. It is DULL.

> GO SOUTH CLEARING

YOU are standing in a CLEARING. It is DULL.

Using your MASTER DECIPHERING SKILLS, you READ the RUNES. They RUNES say:

This place is protected by ancient spells, those who cast them cast them well. You cannot try to break them, no, not without fire, water, earth and stone.

> LOOK

> GO POND

There is NOTHING SPECIAL about the POND.

> GO IN POND

YOU jump into the POND. It is surprisingly shallow, although you do SEE a TREASURE: CROSS OF CORANADO at the BOTTOM.

> GET CROSS

You SWIM ACROSS the POND toward the TREASURE. When SUDDENLY, SOMETHING GRABS YOUR ANKLE!
