Title: Let's vote on Voting!
Post by: very_shy_guy29 on August 21, 2003, 07:32:24 PM
I think it's nice we have different mods.  I think The mods are good, but Im sure lot's of people will agree with me.  I think after a couple of months we should vote on a new mods.  That way the boards will be more well rounded. I do something similar to what trainman did.  So far, including me

Yes-1
No-0

Face the facts, here kids. These are NOT our boards. They are Deezer's.

It's not a democracy. Deezer picks the Mods. He chose his pick. If you didn't get chosen as a Mod, that's the way it is.

To be quite blunt, this vote means nothing. The Mods are the Mods until Deezer says otherwise. Now please, drop this whole subject. If you wish to become a Moderator, then prove yourself with quality, as opposed to this sort of thing.

 Thanks.

Its called a pettion.  I know people will agree with me.  We make up the boards.  After all, a few of people out of thousands doesn't sound fair, does it?  And tons of people will stop going on the boards.  After all, Deezer listended to Watoads idea.  Why shouldn't he listen to mine?  Sooner or later, will have so much more users.  I think they close to many threads.  We have a right you know.

Yeah, and you might as well delete the "banning" topics, BM.  We can vote if we want, even if it doesn't help in the end.

"After all, a few of people out of thousands doesn't sound fair, does it?"

-Well, it does when only 12.3 people post here and 5 moderator slots are physically allowed.

"And tons of people will stop going on the boards."

-Tons? Tons, you say? If 12.3 people post here and each weighs roughly 140 pounds, than it is NOT MATHEMATICALLY POSSIBLE that a ton of people would leave the boards.

Now... You know what I meant by tons.  theese mods are crazed with power.  Closing some topics were real dumb.  I no alot of people deserve to be mods.  Lets say sapphira leaves.  Then what will happen.  why not vote?

"Its called a pettion. I know people will agree with me."

A vote is not a petition. However, I understand what you're trying to say. And yes, people will agree with you, I know. I know this, mainly because this topic has been brought up many times before. Too many.

"We make up the boards. After all, a few of people out of thousands doesn't sound fair, does it?"

Yes, we do make up the boards. And we're free to leave too. When you join the boards, you're not automatically allowed to do whatever you please. Even though we come here, you must realize we don't have the right to pick our Mods. It's Deezer's say, whether or not you like it.

This isn't about being fair. You may say it's not fair that they got picked to Mod, but in reality, it doesn't matter. They were picked because they showed some-sort of special quality that others lack. They're well-suited for the job.

"And tons of people will stop going on the boards."

If "tons" of people leave the boards because they weren't picked to Mod, then good. It'll be better off without them anyway.

"After all, Deezer listended to Watoads idea. Why shouldn't he listen to mine?"

I'm not opposed to your idea, but the manner in which you're organizing it. Having a vote, that effectively does nothing, and questions Deezer's choices probably wouldn't be the way I would have handled the situation. Send him an E-mail or something.

"Sooner or later, will have so much more users. I think they close to many threads. We have a right you know."

 More members, so what?

That's your opinion. Personally, I feel every thread closed had need of it. If you give some examples, and reasons as to why you believe that, maybe you'd have a more persuasive argument.

You have a right for what? To post? To vote? What?

"Yeah, and you might as well delete the "banning" topics, BM."

Yeah, well I can't delete topics. However, I wouldn't care if a Moderator did so. But then, you guys would probably complain about that, too.

"We can vote if we want, even if it doesn't help in the end."

Yeah, you can. I wasn't aware people enjoyed wasting their own time.

When I said "tons will leave", I meant Sapphira may leave, Dr. Mario may leave.  And whadda bout the banning thread?  That worked.  Were you against that?  And I wasn't the first one to bring this up.  Deezer didnt listen to them?  Im showing deezer alot of people agree with me. I meant we have the right to vote.  The "who's hotter" post was completely harmless.  They didn't break a rule.  THe post was just stupid.  I thought it was funny! even the other mods thought it was dumb to close it (I think).

"I wasn't aware people enjoyed wasting their own time."

I meant that it's possible that Deezer will consider the idea and that people can vote, even if Deezer won't "warm up" to the idea, or whatever.   And if you're trying to get rid of the idea, then you are wasting your time.  I apologize if I sound mean, I'm not intending to.

Well said, Black Mage and Lizard Dude, well said.

Guys, in the end is the closing of those "stupid" topics *really* that big of a deal?  And even if they are, isn't everyone allowed to make a mistake now and then? I mean, all of us are human, after all.
Deezer chose who the mods are, and therefore, shouldn't we all trust their judgement? Deezer obviously does, which is why each one was appointed. As he said, he could only choose 5 people, so please don't take offense that you (or others) were not chosen.

Personally, I think so far all of us mods have done a fine job.  Honestly, ever since we were appointed, it's seems that people have been *trying* to break the rules more...  Believe me, I don't *want* to have to use my powers, and I'm sure the others feel the same way. I wish people would have the common sense (and common courtesy) to follow the rules; if they would, then this place would be *much* more peaceful, but alas...they don't, and so it's our job to keep it peaceful.

If anyone has thought of any of my actions to be "unfair" and "unreasonable," then I truly apologize. That has never been my intent, nor will it ever be.  But it's my (and our) job to do something about posts and threads that have gone out of hand.  Basically, we're just filling in what Deezer would've done, but he can't be here all the time, so it's the mods' jobs  to do it for him when he's not here.

Note: No one even noticed when I deleted a highly offensive thread in Game help. Haha! Take that Steve! :P

I honestly don't care if new moderators are picked, or if Deezer is the moderator of all boards for the next fifty-seven years. But it seems right now that the moderators aren't too keen on giving up their new positions just yet, and they're the ones who people actually listen to, so you might as well let this topic get forgotten and revive it in another six months where there'll be a whole new match of crazy newbies to vote on ridiculous ideas.

Yes, deleting threads goes WAY less noticed than closing them... (I have deleted several which no one has noticed--exluding the recent spam ones that everyone wanted gone... *cough*uvg*cough*)

Oh yeah, I've also made a point to delete any recent accidental double topic-posting.

"revive it in another six months where there'll be a whole new match of crazy newbies to vote on ridiculous ideas."

Ooh, don't remind me. They do come in batches, don't they. It's weird.

*shudders*
And it usually always happens by one newbie each "batch." Gah!, that's annoying... >_<

Not necessarily.

Anyway, as Black Mage pointed out, this is not a democracy. It's more like... a monarchy. The citizens of monarchies don't get to say "Hey, I want a new prince," or "I wanna be the queen... vote for me," or something like that.

Thanks to Black Mage and Lizard Dude for handling this so well. I don't think anything else needs to be said here.

Darn. Just another mess o’ Chocolate Pan Dowdy.
