Title: Welcome to the new Fungi Forums
Post by: Deezer on November 15, 2005, 08:09:43 PM
The FF is back! We have worked hard to capture the look and feel of the original ASPforum, without all the broken features.

We may still be tweaking a few things here or there, so feel free to post comments or suggestions in this thread.

(Note that the "Help" section is a little off but it should get you on the right track.)

You may have noticed different "Users Online" have different colors for their names.
Blue = normal member
Red = Moderator ("Super")
Orange = Global Mod ("Fiery")
Yellow = Administrator ("Invincible")

I think that's it.
Edit: Aww, heck, I'll just list them all.
Edit: More stuff to add.

Okay guys, we haven't totally finished tweaking the theme, but we wanted to get the board back up for people to use.
As you can see (and many things you can't see), this board has tons of new features, and we may not have been able to test them all.  If you run into a problem, please post any troubles in this thread.

There go all my board powers.....Makes me wonder if I shoulda tried to become a real mod.

So, how many of the options can you change on this board? The file attachment size restriction bothers me; I can't think of much non-imagewise that takes less than 128K.

What?  What?!  This is... too awesome!!! *dies and goes to coin heaven* Holy smokes, I never thought it could happen.  Yoshi Yoshi!  I mean, yay!

I love all these new features.  And you have a calendar too, sweet!  Do you think you could get my birthday up there some time?  :D

I'm a little worried about something here though (besides gettting used to this which won't be too hard).  I made a bunch of links to the old Bored threads in a topic, but now that you've switched servers and have a new name, will all my links become null or whatever?  And that timer thing for logging on... if I choose to log on forever will that cause problems?  I don't want to keep adjusting it each time.

Too bad you didn't get any Mario emoticons though. (E I);o}D

Way to support me, BM. :P

I'm working on my "power", Sapph. I think I have two options.

1. Look for some loopholes in this new format, which might take some time.
2. Apply for mod.

I'd hate having to be "good" enough for #2, and I don't know that it's worth it. So I'm going with #1 first.

I guess nobody wants a cookie? It's cholocate chip!

Well, most places take a "Don't call us, we'll call you." perspective.

Rightfully so, since I know I'd find it tedious for members to constantly be requesting a position as Moderator. Make quality posts and prove yourself trustworthy, and I'm sure you'll get there eventually.
Title: Re: Welcome to the new Fungi Forums

They know I wouldn't screw up the board. I've protected it in some cases with my extra "power". They just don't like my personality.

I've gonna eat this cookie myself if nobody takes a guess.  >:(

But that's enough of this. We've taken this much too far offtopic.

This is on topic. We're discussing about staff positions in the new board.

If you really want to get off-topic.....

Maybe that's because it's a "don't call us; we'll call you" policy? Hinting around, as opposed directly asking, is equally annoying, and it sure isn't going to get you anywhere. Ever think the REASON "half the staff hates you" is BECAUSE you're annoying like that? Not the other way around?

(Note: I typed this BEFORE Black Mage mentioned the "don't call us" thing, but it fits in with what I'm saying.)
Anyway, Cash, it's not that you wouldn't "mess it up," it's that you seem so power-hungry and determined for it, and getting it the "good way" or "bad way" doesn't matter to you, as long as you have it.

And the cookie thing, I'd guess ME.

Edit: /me says, "How would YOU know?" and who said she WANTED one?

Hi guys, it's-a me, Bird Person... My password email is taking too long. Let me just say, I'm crying right now... What happened? I miss the old, simple stuff. I don't understand any of this. Maybe I'll get used to this after a while, but the complicated stuff is the reason I never joined any other forums. I'd say that the note for the last poster is the best improvement, but all the new icons... X( I'm not using any of these animated yellow things. What's next... Avatars? XP

Bird Person became Goomba Food? That's not a really pretty sight. But dang it, we got avatars. Avatars! You know, having little pictures under you're username? And I know exactly which picture Aarom will choose and which I will choose *Looks over to Rebecca the Hotness gallery*

Or maybe *Googles up Minamoshipping*

Wait if only Mods and Admins can have Custom Titles does that mean TEM's a Mod now? I spotted him with a Custom Title some time ago.

Password email? Uhh...it should be the same password you had before, on the old FF.
And really, it's not all that complex. Here's an easier way to remember icons: green ones have new posts, red ones have old posts, and purple ones are closed topics. The yellow ones are just important announcements that don't need responses; closed stickies. Other than the yellow ones, it's the same topic icon color scheme as before.

Say, why are Flash embeds disabled? You could do some neat stuff with those.

Also, I don't think you should IP ban a member as soon as you ban their username, if only so that they can see when they even did to GET banned. (I had to use a proxy to get in here to see that I had accidentally written over one of Deezer's edits).

S'all right. And man, that really WAS a misunderstanding. On top of it looking like you diliberately edited Deezer's post, I thought you were saying MUCH worse things to me, since the censors just asterisked those words out. I didn't realize those particular words were censor-words--in fact, I don't even see that those words need to be censored in the first place--so you can see why I thought that. Anyway, even though it may have been a "joke," I found it to be distasteful, inappropriate, and unfunny, although I'm not personally offended by it. Before I knew what you were actually saying (because of the censors), I was very much offended, as one can tell by my extreme hatred of profanity.

Anyway, I'm glad things are cleared up now. >_<   ...And for the record, I'm straight.  :P
We'll be working on the censors so that not everything looks like it was originally profane.

I'm having the same problem as Yoshisaurus Rex.  I can see the smiley buttons (and avatars, for that matter) when I use the Simple Machines Forum theme, but not when I use the Fungi Forums theme.  I want the look of the Fungi Forums theme, but I want to be able to use smiley buttons.  I was able to use smiley buttons earlier with the Fungi Forums theme...did someone change the theme?

Cool! I can see my avatar in the non-TMK themes now!

But I gotta admit that I really wish that avatars were viewable in the default TMK theme. After all, if people didn't want to see them, they could turn avatars off in their profile settings.

(Also, some of the icons in this non-TMK theme that I have on right now appear as broken images on my comp, and it looks like heck.)

I wish we could have just some of the important buttons like for hyperlinks and stuff like that.  You need to have the bare necessities, the simple bare necessities, to forget about your worries and your strife.  Look for the bare necessities, old mother nature's recipe, to bring the bare necessities to life!  Oh no, was I singing again?

Yes, you can still force your text to be a URL. Here's what it would look like if you wanted to link to google with the text "Click here".

Code: [Select]
Example:

Oh, I miss the days when Fan Art was held by TMK. A long time ago, there was this update:

July 13th, 2005

Site news
As part of a small collaboration of sorts, our fan art and fan fiction will move to Koopaprince's Super Mario Bros. Info Station, while we get permission to reprint some of his articles and images. The content will appear on each site in the near future.

If you've sent us fan art or fan fics since the last update to those sections, fear not, for SMBIS (http://smbis.nescentral.com) will give them a good home.

When Mario throw Bowser, he doesn't speak italian...

But I've noticed a curiosity: Mario speaks italian in "Mario VS DK", but he's not very good in italian....-____-
He says: "Non avrei mai dovuto LAVORATO!"...Terrible ERROR!! :D :D :D

It means :"I would have never worked!"The english literary translation is good, but the italian grammar is bad.

We normally say : "Non avrei mai dovuto LAVORARE!"

The literary translation in english is:" I would have never work!"

So, the wrong phrase is the literary translation from english (like an italian with english rules)!!!!

I've discovred the first error in a Mario game!!!!!!!!!! = o   = o   = o

I've only 3 Game Boy Pocket and a Color, a Game Cube and a Nintendo 64 and, when I was a child, I've had a Super Nintendo! My first consolle (I was 6 years old!!!!)! But something bad happened to it...:( :( :(

We talk about the Mario italian phrases in the Nintendo italian community, and, sometimes, we find that Mario doesn't speak italian correctly (the pronunciacion is good, but the grammar, sometimes...).But he lives in USA, isn't he? So, he can have lost his original language! :( :( :(

HE, he.. Have you noticed only now??
You're one of the few people I know who say I'm cool! =D
But no one will be more cool then Mario & Co!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =^____^=

We spoke different dialects: maybe you know one of them.
The dialect of my town is friulano.
A friulano don't say "ciao" but "mandi".
We don't say "Mamma", we say "Mame" and so on.

But I prefer speak italian. I only understand friulano because my grandma speaks it, but I don't speak it (sometimes only to joke, because is an amusing language! =D)

Then, I'm italian. I'm born in Italy, I speak italian and I'm still living here (I'm writing from my home!)!

Sometimes foreign people think I'm russhian only because of my name and my aspect!!!
In fact I have a long and right nose like Pinocchio (or just a normal russhian), brown and short hear and blue eyes.

The only thing of me that shows I'm not russhian is my stature: I'm only 1,60 m high! LIKE WARIO!!!! =D
ERGH ERGH!! I'M GONNA WINNNNN!!!

My family has anchient origins: it comes from Rome originally....NOT RUSSIA!
Then, I've heard that a big part of my family leave in USA, now! I'me very curious to know were!!! =) =)

Hey, mods/admins, is it possible to put new themes in? I mean, I like the current Fungi Forums theme, but I can't see avatars, and if I change to the other theme, it looks too weird. Maybe a red Mario theme, or something?

Thats what I've been thinking of lately...I can't use the other templates, I feel almost forced to usde this one, the other ones alienate from this one...

Maybe we could have Mario smiling for a hot topic, Mario looking indecisive for a poll, normal Mario for a normal topic, a sad Mario for a closed topic, and an overly happy Mario for a sticky.

What's the difference between "Default Fungi Forum Board" (or something like that, the first option) and "ff"? They both look the same...
Title: Re: Welcome to the new Fungi Forums
Post by: Ultima Shadow on January 02, 2006, 10:29:26 PM
Nothing. The FF is a template the mods/admins designed, and Deezer set it up as the default template, therefore causing it to appear twice. Or something like that.

Maybe we could have Mario smiling for a hot topic, Mario looking indecisive for a poll, normal Mario for a normal topic, a sad Mario for a closed topic, and an overly happy Mario for a sticky.

Or...

Mario=Sticky topic
Luigi=Hot topic
Peach=Poll
Wario=Closed Topic
Title: Re: Welcome to the new Fungi Forums
Post by: BP on January 03, 2006, 02:18:40 PM

But then there's hot sticky, normal sticky, closed sticky, sticky poll, hot sticky poll, closed sticky poll, hot poll, closed poll, etc. There is no need to complicate it any further. The stickies are ! blocks because the ! is like a notice; then the block changes to a ? when it's a poll. I like the ? mushrooms.

Yoshi55 deleted a topic he created ("Worst games of all time"), which he had absolutely NO RIGHT to do, and now it can't be recovered, so now normal members have lost the ability to close and delete their own topics, as well as the ability to delete their own posts, apparently.

People closing their own topics is getting out of hand; several times I've reopened threads that had no good reason to be closed, but Yoshi55 DELETING a topic was what pushed the limits (and also the final straw in tolerating his behavior, which is why he is banned--to answer several of you guys' questions).

Because of this abuse, I'm sorry, but you've all lost these abilities. You can still edit your posts, though.
Not all regulars have good judgement, so now it's now all left up to us mods and admins. If you accidently make a double post, though, don't worry; it'll be taken care of if noticed--as will "double topics" (which is when creating a topic, you double post and it creates two identical topics). If we feel a topic needs closing, we'll do so, as we always have.

Thanks for your understanding.
Deezer and I are working on trying to somehow recover the said deleted topic, if even possible.

Oh, and the icons are fine. A LOT of time was spent brainstorming, deciding on, and creating all of them, so don't complain. It's like a slap in our faces, which is not appreciated.

Maaaan... Wasn't it a good feature for topics like this one (http://themushroomkingdom.net/board/index.php?topic=8722.0)? I went and deleted a couple of topics I made, too... Getting rid of posts came in handy for the times when you click Ask a Stupid Question and you're on the last page you saw, you post an answer to the last question of that page, but then you see that the real last question was one you don't have an answer for. You guys (mods) can still delete posts, right? That was a great feature when thatman came by...

BTW, if you're wondering why Bird Person closed that topic, it's because he was the only non-mod/admin online, and because mods/admins would've seen the closed topic icon anyway, I wanted to see if it was just me. I tested it on an old topic that I made, and Bird Person did on the room topic.

Ads are what give TMK the money to keep it going. Which would you rather have? TMK with a few ads, or no TMK? But I do find the ones that roll over annoying. They should make roll-over and pop-up ads illigal. Once I got a pop-up ad asking if I wanted to buy a pop-up blocker. <_<

My friend got a virus from a pop-up ad that gave him 20 pop-up about...stuff...each page. I don't feel comfortable saying the word. The good thing is he found the company that was doing it and sued them. Ah, I'm getting off topic now.

Are there pop-ups here? I have a pop-up blocker, so I wouldn't see them. I'm just curious.

I'm having problems with the "no posting less than 60 seconds together" rule. It really shouldn't apply to private messages, as it's really getting annoying when I'm trying to mail back everyone's new position for my new forum game. I think it also RESETS the minute wait whenever you get the error message, since I know I waited more than a minute overall, clicking "Send" periodically.
Title: Re: Welcome to the new Fungi Forums
Post by: MaxVance on August 09, 2006, 05:47:30 PM
This "flood control" was put in place after a member named DarthTedd64 came. He constantly posted, so much that a two minute wait period between posts was put in place. The limit eventually got shortened, but I still find it to be a problem sometimes. And yes, the limit resets every time you even try to post.
Title: Re: Welcome to the new Fungi Forums
Post by: CashCrazed on August 10, 2006, 07:23:09 PM
DarthTedd64? Really? If you've been here long enough, you might remember The_Millionaire. That's him. He's also gone by comm128 and Banedon in the past. I know all this because he went to a forum I'm staff at for at least a couple years. Then came back later and started mouthing me. He hates me, and it's a good thing he's not here any more, because whenever we end up on the same forum, something always happens. Something bad.

Hi everyone, I am the director of a developing online MUD Mario Themed Game! A MUD is like an online RPG, similar to the Paper Mario Series, but it is online, so you are playing with thousands of other people, and it is not graphical but instead, completely text-based! MUDs are great fun to play, free, and never ending. The name of the game is Project Mario World, it is currently under development and there is no estimated release date as of right now. We have a well capable staff but are still accepting more volunteers, our entire staff is voluntary, (no pay,) and you do not need any special talents to help out, unless you want to be a coder or programmer. You don't even have to volunteer to help, either way, stop by our website and check it out, also make sure you register on our forums so you can get all the latest info and chat with other fans. Sorry I'm advertising but it is very much so important and Mario relative.

Check us out!

That's NOT possible because there is a  95% chance that Sonic or other SEGA characters will not be included because 1. Sonic is from another company and 2. Nintendo and SEGA don't get work together though Snake is from another company

you don't get my point: SEGA did release games on the Nintendo platforms yes but no, they NEVER worked together with Nintendo for any games (rumour has it that they don't like each other bacause Nintendo held more popularity than SEGA which stopped them from selling off their systems as much as Nintendo (hence the Mario vs Sonic spinoffs from unofficial fans using Flash) but I could be wrong)

;sigh; fine, you say they did work together and I'm absolutely fine with what you say but I was just pinting out that Snake was only making a guest appearance so that other characters from other companies will most likely not be appearing (peh, hard to keep on the non-offensive side being in a 'mostly' rule-free fourm for so long)

the rule with the topic making is probably there to stop people posting unnecessary topics before they are experienced in the place
and I'm familliar with forum ru;es too but I'm not comfortable with them because I'll have to watch my tongue (or my fingers for this case) all the time
Title: Re: Welcome to the new Fungi Forums

You should be watching your "fingers" all of the time: never act like an idiot, whether you are a six-year-old member or a one-week-old member. You've pretty much got to ear your respect.

I just tried watching my tongue and it's pretty hard without a mirror.  It's almost impossible to say coherent words with my tongue out that far.  I'm probably not very coherent with my typing either; watching my fingers or not.

"If you are not a moderator, do not act like you are a moderator." It is self-explanatory. When a member is consistantly going through threads and exclaiming things such as:
I understand that often times members genuinely are trying to help, but more often than not it is of no help. If you truly want to be helpful, then send a Moderator/Administrator a Private Message informing them of where the infraction took place, and they will deal with the issue. And if you really just cannot stand the injustice of someone "getting away" with breaking the rules, send that member a Private Message politely informing them of the rules, and any advice you can offer them. In this way, you're not cluttering up an already hurting thread, and you're helping to mold new members into respectable posters. You may not think it will have an impact, and sometimes you'd be right, but I can personally attest to the results this method can produce. You may be surprised at some of the members who currently post who've received a Private Message about this very issue.

Yeah, I realize that if you do it that way you're not going to get any recognition from the Staff, or other members; you won't be recognized as the champion of justice who does a better job at moderating than the moderators, but that's not what should be important.

This applies to spelling and grammar as well. Solidshroom makes a valid point, and though I'm not singling out Bird Person for this (As I, many years ago, often did the same) we need to stop harping on the spelling and shorthand usage. This is an online forum, and we're all members, moderator or not. We've got better and more important things to do than be elitist jerks.

Title: Re: Welcome to the new Fungi Forums
Post by: Ultima Shadow on August 16, 2008, 05:45:01 PM
What about the line restriction on sigs? The two-line limit has been around since the old forum software, which was fair enough because the sig text was the same size as the other text in the post, but now it's smaller and we have the same limit? Surely we could fit three or maybe even four lines of sig in roughly the same amount of space as the old restriction, which can really give freedom in posting quotes, song lyrics, etc, meaning we don't have to resort to strange line layouts to get our point across.

What's the deal with sigs anyway? Who came up with them? Why do we use them? You read the user's sig once, and if it's good, you laugh think about it, get angry that it has forced you to breathe manually, etc. If it's retarded (this space for rent, I have no sig, signature goes here, under construction, etc.) you groan. It's pretty easy to skip over a small signature a line or two long. Flashy images between posts are pretty distracting. In the past some users have attached completely irrelevant images to their posts, and what happened? It ticked everyone off.

Well, it's a good idea at the very least.

I just like avatars and signatures because about 75% of the funniest quotes and looping animations I can recall seeing on the internet were from them on various sites.

Speaking of layouts, why is the ff layout there? Its just a copy of the default theme. Why not delete it?

No, it hasn't, though to be honest I wish it had so that some of my old incredibly horrible and incredibly long sigs couldn't exist. Ditto for the code stripping.

Whoops, my bad. Could've sworn it was... regardless, there'd still probably be room for a three/four-line sig without overly hindering one's post-viewing experience.

Yeah... I've wondered about that.

Post contents coming later! I need to read all the pages of a topic before replying.

Edit: I've fought before for it to be replaced by a "they're allowed, but don't be an idiot with them" rule. The standard of idiocy, of course, varies from forum to forum, and can determined by lurking enough.

I have a problem.

Since people have been posting here so much lately I keep having to click on it.

And every time I click on it I hear a voice in my head say, "Welcome! Welcome new Fungi Forum!"

THE FOLLOWING NEEDS TO BE ANSWERED!

I'don't seee a start forum button.  How do I post a thread?

You already asked that, I gave you an answer, and you thanked me. Whether you did or not, though, this doesn't really seem like the proper venue for that question (but that's just me).

I'don't seee a start forum button.
That's because it doesn't exist.

Serious answer: Read the rules.
 • New members will only be able to reply to topics.  With proper conduct, they will eventually earn the ability to post their own topics.

Quick question -- How would one go about adding a "custom title" beneath one's username? The option doesn't seem to exist in my profile settings... very queer.
Title: Re: Welcome to the new Fungi Forums

Heres the thing. They deserve to be called titles, cause you can't edit them. Unless you're a mod.

Word choice, connotation. Koopaslaya suggests: odd, peculiar, strange, bizarre, weird, unusual.

Don't make me take this into the political board on you!

Weegee: After five minutes of barely considering all the factors, I have formulated the laws of Custom Titledynamics:

1. The likelihood of your custom title referring to a previous post is inversely proportional to how significant/smart the post seemed at the time.

2. The level of insult/teasing inplied in your custom title is directly proportional to how annoying you make yourself (something I seemed to have pulled off in spades).

3. The comic potential of a custom title is directly proportional to how many people get the reference.

4. I suck at coming up with scientific-sounding rules.

Sure, but how do you get a title? Do the mods simply bestow them upon you at their whim, based on your actions?

Not all custom titles are negative. Sure, positive ones are rarer because they're less funny, but neutral ones are fairly common if you say something peculiar. You probably won't get one for that if you keep trying.

Title: Re: Welcome to the new Fungi Forums

You could start by running through the Cave of Sighs and climbing down into the Pit of Despair. Turn the wheel to lift the stone slab then race into the Throne Room. Sit on the Throne of the Pretender and you could go up into the Heart Room or into the treacherous Halls of Python. If you escape you might have a chance to enter the Tomb of Ancient Kings. Find the right key to go upwards or plow through the wall and into the well. Next jump in the bucket and rise up into the Room of Three Torches. Find the right torch-holder that will allow you to enter the Shrine of the Silver Monkey. Assemble the statue and you may be headed for the Treasure Room. Next race up to the Observatory, spin the Celestial Lights, and run across the Troubled Bridge. Then pass through the Room of the Royal Gongs, race down the stairs and back to the temple gate. The choices are yours and yours alone! Good luck.

These forums have held up incredibly well over time.  Many features (like post statistics (https://themushroomkingdom.net/board/index.php?action=profile;area=statistics;u=57126), for example) offer even more luxury than what you would find in a bloated boat full of JavaScript.  Every page is fast and responsive, too.

I am Yoshi55, apparently a 00s edgelord with an 80s theme. But I regret this, after HS, joining the Navy in 2011 and moving to Japan.

I did keep and expand the tech, but I do regret being a homophobe and a bigot.
