Kid Icarus Uprising
Kirby's Epic Yarn

Every twelfth-grader knows the situation: An older family friend or relative approaches you in hopes of making small talk, beginning with that most tiresome question, "Do you know what you'll be doing after high school?" Due to exasperation over having answered this very question countless times, or perhaps due to genuine uncertainty, you nonchalantly give a vague response before directing the conversation elsewhere.

So, Class of 2010 and beyond, I'll now become your honourary aunt by asking you this: What are your plans? Off to college? To university? Straight to the workforce? Embarking on a soul-searching journey, perhaps?  Discuss.

Video Game Chat / Final Fantasy suggestions
« on: April 28, 2010, 09:22:03 PM »
Having thoroughly enjoyed the DS remakes of Final Fantasy III and IV, I've been hoping to delve deeper into Square Enix's legendary series. Could anyone provide suggestions as to which FF title(s) I should try next? My only stipulation is that all recommendations must be available on Nintendo consoles, seeing as I only own Nintendo systems.

Forum Games / For TMK's singers
« on: April 12, 2010, 10:35:17 PM »
For the past four years, I've been blessed with the privilege of having a certain classmate who is, for lack of a better word, "special". Despite his developmental issues, the guy is a kind soul who means well. He fancies himself quite the songwriter, among other things. Below is one of his most recent compositions, complete with grammatical idiosyncrasies:

[Untitled]
Words and music by Kyle

When you can see the colors
from the rainbow from the
storm after it rains
you can be there at every
party and if you get
in trouble don't
mind just think about
something else instread
of that don't be so worried
at all because Im there for
every single time don't be
mistaken because I do it every time
Because therefor you
need me you can therefor you
thunderstorm the distance
there's no earthquake to distroy
the city there's no wind to
floud the countrie s
Because it's only rain
falling straight
down

This particular piece evidently didn't make the cut, seeing as I found it on the cafeteria floor. Regardless, my challenge is as follows:

Record your own interpretation of this song, and post the finished product here.

Opera, country, J-pop, spoken-word, Microsoft Sam over a techno loop, or whatever, the style and tune are of your own choosing. Go crazy. :D

Mario Chat / Nintendo Power presents: The Official Guide to Mario
« on: April 04, 2010, 05:05:07 PM »
Nintndo Power has recently released a collectible feature dedicated entirely to Mario. In typical Future US style, all of its 44 pages are devoid of humour, personality or self-reference, to the extent that even Mario's Early Years: Preschool Fun and Mario Is Missing! are mentioned in a neutral light. However, the package as a whole is interesting, and belongs on any Mario fan's shelf.

Everyone's favourite ultra-conservative boderline hatemonger, Ann Coulter, has cancelled her appearance at the University of Ottawa after receiving a less-than-warm welcome from locals and a stern warning regarding "freedom of speech" from the university's provost. Apparently, her views are so controversial that her statements could fall within the realm of hate speech, a criminal offence in Canada. It should be noted, however, that Coulter's organizers, not the university, are responsible for cancelling her Ottawa appearance, due to "security concerns", AKA getting her head blasted off. Coulter's statements in response to the controversy are included here, by the way.

Personally, I'm simultaneously relieved and peeved to know that Coulter won't be speaking on Ottawa. For the former, she's a crazy ***** who poses an embarrassment to conservatives and Christians alike. However, it's aggravating to know that a liberal nutjob with equally extreme views would undoubtedly be lauded here, and, additionally, several of her comments following the cancellation were quite poignant, albeit outrageous.

So, does such a controversial figure need a muzzle for society's sake? Were Coulter's protesters justified, or are they just as guilty of intolerance as the woman herself? Do her viewpoints hold any credibility whatsoever?

Site Discussion / Can't turn off e-mail notifications
« on: February 27, 2010, 11:14:46 PM »
I've recently been receiving notifications from TMK of new replies to my posts via e-mail, even though my account settings have never been set to do so. I've unchecked every account option pertaining to message notifications, but they still keep flooding into my Hotmail inbox. Getting 93 e-mails in one night makes one feel popular, but is admittedly tiresome to manage. Any help?

Below is an example of said e-mails.

General Chat / The '00s: A Decade In Retrospect
« on: January 20, 2010, 08:23:49 PM »
With the decade behind us, a clearer perspective of it as a whole is to be gained. So, fellow frequenters of TMK, let me ask you this: What's your verdict on this millennium thus far?

Forum Games / You Groan, You Lose
« on: October 16, 2009, 01:04:55 PM »
...Not to be confused with You Get Aroused, You Lose.

Yeah, so this is the thread for puns, one-liners and just-plain-awful jokes. Overly ripe produce is available in the lobby for your pelting pleasure. Without further ado,

Two Eskimoes are paddling down a frigid Arctic river. In an attempt to keep warm they light a fire in their canoe, but the craft sinks in the process. This just goes to show that you can't have your kayak and heat it too.

A group of chess entusiasts are bragging about their skills in a hotel lobby. They eventually become so noisy that the hotel manager asks them to be quiet or leave. He explains to them that he can't stand chess nuts boasting in an open foyer.

Go!

General Chat / What would you do...
« on: August 25, 2009, 11:02:54 PM »
...For a Klondike Bar?

Whoops. Let's try that again:

What would you do if the internet were to "break down" permanently tomorrow? To what extent would it affect your life if everything you had ever done online vanished instantaneously? That being said, anything downloaded and saved offline would be safe, but assume that everything from Facebook to Wikipedia would be irrepairably wiped.

Please don't waste anyone's time by explaining why this would be technologically impossible. This is from a purely hypothetical standpoint. So, in summary, how do you think the death of the World Wide Web would affect you, and the world as a whole?

General Chat / AVG/iTunes Virus
« on: July 24, 2009, 06:59:33 PM »
Smooth one, Apple.

Upon attempting to open iTunes earlier today, I was greeted by a message stating that required components of the program were missing and that it would have to be reinstalled. This was followed by an AVG Anti-Vurus warning which claimed that hundreds, if not thousands of iTunes-related files were infected with a mysterious "Trojan horse small.BOG". Attempting to reinstall iTunes only produces that ever-ominous "fatal error" warning, and attempting to quarantine the infected files seems pointless since they replicate faster than one can manage them.

This "small" trojan has been spreading like wildfire amonsgt iTunes users; particularly those with AVG. As depicted by several Apple Forums disussions, even only the most technically-savvy among us can offer even temporary solutions. Has this affected anyone else in TMK?

General Chat / Handedness
« on: June 12, 2009, 05:44:05 PM »
Just a quick poll here. I personally fall into the fourth category; meaning that I'm a lefty who inherently does other things like throwing and feeling with my right hand. Before voting, note that options three or four should only be selected if you do absolutely everything that that comes to mind with your non-writing hand.

Oh, and in case you weren't aware, ambidexterity is the ability to write and perform other tasks which involve motor skills equally well with both hands. Less than three percent of the world's population is ambidextrous, but there's no doubt that every other voter is gonna pick that option because ambidexterity is kewl, and so is lying about yourself on the internet.

Obama am left-handed, and so can you!

Game Help / PAPER MARIO EMERGENCY
« on: May 13, 2009, 01:47:27 PM »
What a lovely surprise: I turned on Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door a few minutes ago only to see tht my first save file, nearly- complete with Mario at level 86 and with every single enemy tattled, recipe made and badge collected, has been inexplicably corrupted. The file's name has been replaced with the phrase "File corrupted", and its progress now says "This file must be erased". I hadn't shut off the game while it was saving or loading, and I had already established that maxing out the in-game timer at 99:59 didn't translate to any ill effects.

I've yet to see whether the same sad fate has befallen any of my other Gamecube titles, and I'm currently afriad to know. Any ideas? Can the memory somehow be retrieved, perhaps?...

Forum Games / What's on your Paste?
« on: May 05, 2009, 09:09:25 PM »
The title seems sufficiently self-explanatory, so without further ado, let the paste-ing begin! If you feel inspired to participate, simply place the contents of your paste option into a reply... provided that said text is TMK-approriate, of cour-- meh, no moderator would dare trudge through this 55-page wasteland of moral depravity known as Forum Games anyway.

I KID THE MODS.
