Mario Chat / Re: New Mario Movie (Not Joke)
« on: December 12, 2014, 06:01:38 PM »
I thought it was decent as a movie on its own and I liked the minor callbacks to things and elements they threw in (especially Big Bertha!), but it was still bad as a "Mario" movie. Throwing in all that dinosaur time travel [dukar] was such a stupid ****ing idea for a Mario movie, and Mario and Luigi barely even wear the overall+shirt+hat combo (WHICH THEY SHOULD HAVE WORN FOR THE MAJORITY OF THE FILM). Even when they do, they don't even use the proper red/green shirt, blue overalls configuration that was already the standard by 1993!

People complaining about those lame ass clickbait websites should check out The Onion's new clickbait parody site, ClickHole.

As Suffix has put much better, I feel like websites like TMK aren't really "necessary" in today's climate. Just browsing TMK brings heartwarming nostalgia; it has basically the same layout as it's had for years (I remember this awesome black color scheme being here since I was 8, and I'm half-sure the format's exactly the same) and an old-fashioned forum with a community of jaded college students or even recent (or not-so recent!) graduates who were here in high school and possibly even before. (Except for younglings like me who were on this site way too young ;]) [dukar], TMK still hosts MIDIs! I have a really large MIDI and SoundFont collection on my computer, but I don't think anyone else on Earth does. Doesn't TMK still have one of those little official banners? You know, those really small gifs that Mario/Nintendo sites put on other Mario/Nintendo sites back then, so they could be like a network?

We aren't going to get many new members unless we do some kind of social media or YouTube thing. Like, a bunch of TMK users all post videos of them playing or showing off Mario games (spinoffs or otherwise) to the official TMK YouTube channel. Maybe Mario TAS stuff...pssh, like that would ever happen!

Just be glad TMK never went the way of NintendoLand, the ultimate old school Nintendo fansite that had a *****in' layout that fascinated younger me that's now reduced to just a forum. You can't even view it in the Wayback Machine without seizure inducing constant refreshes completely disrupting the experience! I'm glad TMK is what it is.

I am impressed they decided to have someone dressed as Toad instead of Yoshi. Usually Toad gets the shaft in events such as this.

Given how the Toad guy looks here, I wouldn't be surprised if Toad were still getting the shaft in this situation.

It's not the specific upload date of just six years ago. It's the spirit, [darn] it! DBZ, Linkin Park, AMVs...

Posting just to announce my glee that as of my typing this, Super Smash Bros. 4 Wii U has been released in the east coast of North America!

I'm not getting it until Christmas, though.

I'd better hurry up and find someone to marry

Understanding large fighting game rosters may not be universal across age ranges...but one thing certainly is.

I feel like characters being buffed and nerfed after the game's release would make it harder to learn that character's strategies and stuff. What if your strategy with a character involves a kill move that's been nerfed? What if your strategy against a character involves avoiding a move that becomes harder to avoid? Those are perhaps extreme examples, but I really hope they don't release too many of these balance updates. Besides, how many times will we have to delete replays because they don't work anymore?

And I think you guys might want to give n64forever a break. Yeah, only having 16 characters is pretty dumb, especially since you don't HAVE to use all the characters outside the 16 you think shouldn't be in, but it's obvious he's not a very hardcore gamer or anything, and he might be too old fashioned for all this newfangled huge roster of characters he doesn't recognize mumbo jumbo.

This one time when I went to my grandpa's apartment (Around 2007), I brought my Wii there but his TV was old so I couldn't hook it up, as it only had a cable jack in the back, and no AV cable support. My dad stopped by and picked me up a cheap AV-to-RF converter at RadioShack or something. It had a rather long delay, which prevented me from playing any Guitar Hero, which was one game I brought. The sound was awful on that TV...Fortunately, my grandpa ended up getting a new TV (A widescreen CRT EDTV [Those are fairly elusive now, I think], which seems like the ultimate TV for playing pre-7th gen games), so I could bring and play whatever games I wanted.

Bringing over Brawl was an interesting experience. When he lived with my dad, he got me Melee in Christmas of 2004, which I would often bring over often to play on my dad's GameCube there (I got my home GameCube that same day). My grandpa loved watching me play Melee; even though he thought fighting games were dumb, he was awestruck at how many characters, stages, trophies, and modes there were, as well as how graphically impressive the game was at the time. He thought the lottery thing which you can use to get trophies was really, really neat, and he would read me trophy descriptions, which gave me a much more advanced vocabulary than most of my peers which has persisted to this day. He stubbornly insisted that Brawl just wasn't as good a game as Melee.

Perhaps if he were born much later, he'd be a competitive Smash player.
