Author Topic: Why is wall jumping/kicking so satisfying?  (Read 37443 times)

the wall jump originally came from the original SMB as a glitch, and doing glitches is fun
One Ring to rule them all. One Ring to find them. One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.

I doubt they created wall jumping because they realized it was a glitch.
That was a joke.

I'd be interested in finding out which wall jump everyone finds the most satisfying.  Some people raised complaints over the "difficulty" of wall jumping in SM64, but I find the possibility of failure makes a successful wall jump all the more delicious.

QFT, I like how if you didn't press A at the exact right time Mario would hit his head on the wall, unlike in recent games where he slides.

I wish I could jump and wall-kick like Mario does in real life.

You can kinda kick off of walls, but alas, we're all gravity's fool, so you can't gain much height from this procedure like Mario.
In Soviet Russia, Pokemon chooses you!

Another good game aside from N is Fancy Pants Adventure. The first one doesn't really call for wall jumping, but the sequel has lots of it in there.... and plenty of elements of Sonic and Mario in it. Very fun! Galaxy reference in that game enemy interaction-wise once you do it.
Formerly quite reasonable.

Because the walls deserve it, standing there all high and mighty. Yeah I kick you! I kick you face!

Heya, Boo Dudley! Welcome back!

I just remembered... when I was younger I would do Mario's midair kick attack at walls and didn't understand why the "wall kicking" the signs around the castle mentioned were so useful.

I sometimes did that when I was frustrated. I also get a kick out of making Mario smack into the walls (run toward it, then hit Z just before contact). Repeatedly.
Fangirling over Luigi since 1999.

Why do people think wall kicking is so satsifing?  I don't!  I think long jumping is satisfing though because you know that your covering so much ground in such little time.
Probably likes Sonic games better than anyone else on the fungi forums.

Actually, if we're gonna get into a satisfaction debate, I might be tempted to go with butt-stomping... You Northerners seem to call it a "ground pound", though...
Today's actually... nobody's birthday!  Quick, hurry up and make a baby!
