Apparently someone says if you eat a spinning flashing multi-coloured shell (Shell Shocker?) and spit it out, there's a chance it will come out black. However I can't see that working, as the multi-coloured shell gives all abilities, so it will be spat out as fire...???

I wasn't having a go at anyone in particular - sorry if you thought I did - but it needs to be said. It's when people change the long-standing things of the Mushroom Kingdom that it annoys me, like when people (usually n00bs) start giving Princess Toadstool other names that don't suit her, and making up blatantly incorrect stuff about Goombas and Koopas etc. Also I have read a real, live, English Super Mario Bros instruction manual for the NES. So I do know what I am talking about.

Well, I'm 21 and you know what gets me? All these part-timers who think they know everything about Mario when the only games they've played are Mario 64 and Mario Tennis. Never seen a NES in their life.

Just to let you know, my reply about goombas and koopas was based on what I remember from the SMB manual, years ago when I first got the game. I don't write fanfic or anything like that, I don't read it either, I'm not that sad.

Well, it was Toadstool in, let me see... these games: SMB1, 2, 3, SMW, SMRPG, SM64 (well half'n'half)... that's kind of all the good games, right? And the cartoons too. So it really annoys me when people who obviously haven't been playing Mario for as long as me keep calling her Peach in things like SMRPG, when IT SAYS TOADSTOOL AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN!

Bottom line is, in all the decent platformers it has been Toadstool, and I don't see why they have to change it. It sounds so much better.

I don't play crappy sport games either, so I don't care about Mario Tennis, Golf etc. but it was stupid of them to put Peach and Daisy together like that. Daisy has been in one game and one film (and they only picked Daisy instead of Toadstool cos it sounded better in the context of Brooklyn etc.)

Todd: that is correct about the Goomba. Also, the Koopas were originally just a tribe, with Bowser as their leader, but now the tribe has grown to more like a kingdom, and he is King Koopa.

Ah yes, I've got one here. It's Nintendo (R) Adventure Books: Featuring the Super Mario Bros. (R): Leaping Lizards. (International Nintendo Licensed Product)

No. 2 in the series, and published by Mammoth at £2.50. I remember it being pretty good at the time, pretty accurate to the Mario universe.

Someone ought to scan and OCR them - if anyone has all of them. They would be great nostalgic pieces - I've been with Mario since the NES. (You part-timer you)
