So yeah. What happens? I mean, there shouldn't be a reason for an age limit.
-
Except that humans are generally stupid until they get older. But I have my doubts that age has an bearing on how not-stupid a person is.
-
I pretty sure Aarom11 is, underage.
-
They learn how babies really are made, not that lie their parents tell them about geese delivering them to their home.
-
THere are a few good underage members here, I just need to find them...
Besides, will they get banned or something, because that IS a bit extreme.
-
I remember a while ago someone confessed about that...
-
They are hunted down and taken care of "remix" style.
-
So yeah. What happens? I mean, there shouldn't be a reason for an age limit.
Nothing, I guess. I mean, Aarom11 is 12 and he admitted it once and never got banned or anything.
-
They learn how babies really are made, not that lie their parents tell them about geese delivering them to their home.
Such a lie. Everyone knows it's a stork.
-
Yeah. Do you not play Yoshi's Island? ;D
-
Everyone, I have a confession. I'm still a fetus.
-
Wow, I feel so much better. I'm not even born yet.
-
It matters how mature you are. If you never really bothered anyone before and then confessed you were under 13, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't make much of a difference.
I remember a while ago someone confessed about that...
white_arrow. He was an ok guy, but he hasn't been active for a long time.
-
What would you guys/girls do to me if I were underaged? Better yet, how old do you guys/girls think I am?
-
Nothing probably. You haven't annoyed the crap out of anyone or started any flame wars. We didn't do anything to Aarom11 or white_arrow (and he said he was 10!). I'd guess... you're 11 or 12, if not 13.
-
/me rolls eyes.
It's a recommended age, not an age requirement. If someone is "underaged" and posts maturely and coherently, they will be much more highly thought of than an "of age" person who DOESN'T. Age != maturity
-
Exactly.
-
I find it so old and boring when Sapphira uses the word "mature". I wish she could say "wise", or "postpremature" or something. That would be so awesome.
-
BP has 1200 posts, and Markio has 4000. 0_o
EDIT: And one more and I will have 600.
[/offtopic]
-
Well Sapph, has 4,699, GGRR, now you made me go off-topic! :P
-
Yeah, but who judges members by how much posts they have, or how long they've been here. I just observe how mature their replies are (but that dosen't mean they can't have a sense of humor).
-
Wow, less than 700 behind Sapphira. blblbleblblebeh, ANYway...I think the age "suggestion" is more like a warning. This is one PG-13 forum we got here! I mean with the material that may be inappropriate for children under 13, parents are strongly cautioned! Sure, rough and persisent violence is absent, sexually-oriented nudity is generally absent, but some scenes of drug use may be seen, and the use of harsher sexually-derived words may be heard! One has to be careful nowadays...
-
Bah, this forum is pretty tame compared to Something Awful, Maddox Mania and Rangerboard.
-
Actually we're pretty bad. We use offensive language i.e. "That's stupid." We post pretty terrible things, i.e. (https://themushroomkingdom.net/board/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hrwiki.org%2Findex.php%2FImage%3Ahomsarcharacter.PNG&hash=351f20ad52c0bd563823381b71e6c9f4). And we mostly talk about things that the younger folk won't for several years i.e. Mario games. [/sarcasm]
-
All we need is a topic dedicated to talking about sex.
-
Hahaha, I remembered going to this site everyday when I was 10 (Or 11 or something), then I joined the forum and got banned the first week almost XD! It just goes to show that most kids dont belong in a forum. (I am almost 15 now)
-
You gotta admit though, messing with kids on the internet is fun. I mean, you can post once and they'll post 10 times in a row in a time interval of 5 minutes trying to flame you.
-
This topic was sort of like my confession. I am indeed under 13*crowd gasps*. Not by much though, and as mario2_gold says:"please don't ban me."
-
Don't worry, we won't ban you, Mr.Melee... we'll just think less of you and treat you like a total jerk! OK, not really... at least not because you're underage.
-
If there wasn't a reason to ban you before we knew, why would there be one now?
-
wow, i had forgotten that there would be younger people on these forums, i remember whenever i posted . . .two years ago? . . i felt young . . .and here i am seventeen . . .posting on a mario forums. -_-' Meh oh well :D I like the variety of age on these boards though, i prefer a place with variety, if nothing else it's entertainment. . hehehe.
-
Thanks guys! :) Just because you're a little underaged doesn't mean you're stupid or anything.
-
Anyone who says "Don't ban me" will sooner or later get banned. It's happened before.
-
Saying "Don't ban me" should be a bannable offense. Just imagine how crazy everything would be. Though it'd be a little unfair...plus that would mean people would be banned for saying it accidently.
-
Vid should be banned now, according to the new ban rule about mentioning bans.
-
That means that you Mr. Wiggles would be ......... (Bet you thought I would say it.)
-
I wonder what happens to people who say "Ban me." XD
-
Yeah, this forum is really tame.

I'm 19. :o
-
Vid should be banned now, according to the new ban rule about mentioning bans.
I put it in quotes, which obviously means I didn't say it myself (though it is in MY post, but still).
-
Heh, when I joined I was ten, now I'm only twelve... I'm STILL not old enough!
-
Can underagers get repored to the ISP that they're using, so that they can track them down and prosecute their parents for violations of CIPA and all that other "protection" bullcrap?
ottermi619,
Excuse the dissenting remarks against CIPA, but I really oppose government regulation of the Internet (or particulary almost anything else).
-
Yeah, this forum is really tame.
I'm 19. :o
You shouldn't be here either!! ;) :P Yea, I think it's cool though, being older than everyone, I'm sure that's something you can relate to, being older than me, (not that it's a bad thing) now, if it were only twelve year old people on the boards, then would i feel . . .singled out, but i like it here. :: sits in a comfy spot on his nice little reply ::
-

I see the ole 'Seniority Rule' is effective on here :P
-
Heh, when I joined I was ten, now I'm only twelve... I'm STILL not old enough!
I thought you were 15....
-
Don't worry, Markio. You're a great guy and we all still think you're cool!
Gee, thanks, PaperMario!
-
I must have a bad memory, I don't rememeber posting that......but unless you lied to Sapph in the birthday thread, your're 15. If you really are 12, I don't mind, because I'm 12 too...
-
I guess you guys don't realize this, but the 13-year-old requirement was an unalterable part of the old board system, and was put in place to comply with a US law:
COPPA (http://www.aftab.com/coppainanutshell.htm) requires that commercial websites obtain verifiable parental consent before collecting personal information from a child under the age of 13 (age 12 and under). A failure to obtain such consent is an unfair and deceptive trade practice. COPPA took effect on April 21, 2000.
And you guys saying that you're under 13 but post like you aren't... in most cases it isn't true; your age really does show... maybe just not to those that are still around your age.
-
Yeah, but who is to say you were significantly less mature 6 months before your 13th birthday?
-
The government.
Not saying it's right, but that's what they do.
-
XD
-
Are we a commercial website (because of the ads, maybe)?
-
The paragraph after on the linked website said:
COPPA applies to commercial websites, online services "targeted at children" and any online service operators with actual knowledge that they collect personal information from a child. (Actual knowledge can be as simple as a child sharing their grade or age in a monitored general audience chatroom on your client’s site, or can be supplied by an email or phone call from concerned parents who object to the collection practices on behalf of their child.) Personal information includes such items as full name, home address, e-mail address, telephone number, social security number or any other information that the FTC determines "permits the physical or online contacting of a specific individual."
We fall under the third category, so theoretically, we should bring the age limit back.
-
Could that be why I wasn't getting any members or posts on any of the boards I've run? I've opened several boards within the past few months, and have had to take them down.
BTW, what if this place was non-compliant (other than being forced to shut down and face court litigation, even if no users were harmed?)
ottermi619,
'Cuse me again for dissent of our overly regulated Internet.
-
I don't want to go back to having almost nothing to do! I sort of only said I was underaged because Saph said the 13 thing wasn't a requirement. Please do not not not ban me!
-
Hmmm... But how can we prove Mr.Melee's not 13? He could have been lying.
Since when have we really cared about age though? Until the government comes here threatening to arrest Deezer unless Mr.Melee is banned (which I doubt will happen), don't ban him.
-
Well, I really am fifteen...
-
Remember, n00bs are just junior versions of all of us! Eventually they will grow to check their spelling more like us, create more meaningful posts like us, and eventually understand what all of the BORED threads are all about, like us.
-
Back on topic, when I first registered, I was probably early 11. My topics weren't top-notch, but at least I used correct grammar. Soon after I acted mature and I was accepted into this forum.
-
Yeah, what Bird Person said. Is this another joke like the SSBM one? If it is, darn it! I'm young and easy to fool!
-
Er... I can't remember a time when MB wasn't serious, but if I were you I wouldn't worry about it. If you were going to get banned for your age it would have happeneed a few days ago when you confessed.
-

Just hope the Fed coppers don't also take the user's parents to court for litigation!
-
Who honestly gets arrested for typing random stuff about Mario and pizza companys? It's not like we're a forum that posts porn or death threats (except maybe sadib).
-
That totally has nothing to do with anything.
-
That 13 year or older thing kinda stinks. *sigh* Being 11 is SO hard. And I doubt the governement is watching us at this time. *darts eye around room suspiciously* AHHHHH! They are watchimg us!!
-
The paragraph after on the linked website said:

Doesn't matter for me, my 13th birthday is on the 15th, and I would'nt mind a little time away from here. The underaged members who don't have birthdays on December should probably worry a little, although I doubt they should let it bother them much. Just 14 more days for me....
-
24 till Christmas. Yay! 8D
-
That 13 year or older thing kinda stinks. *sigh* Being 11 is SO hard. And I doubt the governement is watching us at this time. *darts eye around room suspiciously* AHHHHH! They are watchimg us!!
You made me laugh. :)
-

You have them confused. Thiers a difference between Newbs and n00bs. Newbs are just new members that recently joined but overtime mold into the average member in whatever board they're going to. n00bs are the equivalents of trools and spammers.
-

Heh, just wait until you get older. You think it gets easier? :P
-
Yeash. You grow zits, armpit hairs, and hormones. Enjoy your youth. (Maybe that's why you have to be 13, because it's not fair that 12 and under can enjoy the outside world and the Mario world when we can't.)
-
Now now, life always seems a little hard at any age. It's all relative.
-
n00bs are the equivalents of trools and spammers.
I consider 'n00b' to be a bit derogatory. I way prefer 'troll' over anything.
-
I know sometihng that's new: my new sig! Take it off, please! Uncle!!!!!
-
Uncle? I'm left speechless and disoriented.
-
You know. Someone says "uncle" when you want to give up. Yay! I did not know I could just change it. But, my SNES controller is a failure: instead, I have to do this (+//:: ) instead of this (+//::)
-
I agree with Lizard dude, you don't have to be older to have a hard life. Basically, I think that the message here is "Life sucks, except when it doesn't."
-
You know. Someone says "uncle" when you want to give up. Yay! I did not know I could just change it. But, my SNES controller is a failure: instead, I have to do this (+//:: ) instead of this (+//::)
You could just go to additional options and checkmark "Don't use smileys."
-
Duh! *smacks forehead* Thanks, ledzeppelinrocks! Here it is: Sorry! Go to "Make Some Nice Pictures."
-
Life stinks at any age. At youth, school plauge your life, in adulthood, work destroys free time. In an elderly state, you just have to fight to keep on living, and trying to find good health insurance. Man, DOES life stink.
-
What is the point of life anyway? We're born, we go to school for 12-however many years, and work for the rest of it so more people can overpopulate earth until we have to move some people to mars. I know how depressing that sounds... but it's true.
-
Do I smell a pessimist? :)
-
Life stinks at any age. At youth, school plauge your life, in adulthood, work destroys free time. In an elderly state, you just have to fight to keep on living, and trying to find good health insurance. Man, DOES life stink.
It'll just continue to get worse in the upcoming years. Hang on!
-
Cool, I got quoted twice!!
Besides, rich people have the best life. Swimming pools, wide open backyards...
*drools*
-
Remember, n00bs are just junior versions of all of us! Eventually they will grow to check their spelling more like us, create more meaningful posts like us, and eventually understand what all of the BORED threads are all about, like us.
None of you phools understand BORED.
-

Yet some trolls are born to stay trolls...permanently! (for example, I post on a broadcasting board named "Michigan Radio and TV Buzzboard", and for quite a while in the past, someone named "listenbuddy" from Traverse City was notorious [and still is] for trolling around and starting catfights.)
-ottermi619-
Needless to say, listenbuddy has been banned, re-registered under at least 5 different names, all banned also.
-
None of you phools understand BORED.
On second thought, you're right.
-
I don't understand bored? When you have friends that are doing other things and you're home alone w/ 5 video game systems/portables and a computer, you're not bored?
-
Well, this is ironic, now! BORED (topic), not the adjective bored.
-
I should mention that the age restrictions are only for those without parental consent. If a parent tells the site that their child has consent, then such members can interact as normal.
-
Everything I know about sex, I learned from the internet. No "Talk" from the parents for me.
See it can be educational.
-
So if my parent allows me to be on this site, I won't be banned? Well, that's all straightened out! It was like that from the start! ^_^
-
All they told me at school was "Sex is what you shouldn't do!" Great, so if I rob a bank I'm going to have a baby?
My mom explained it to me though.
-
Yet you made the stunning conceptual leap that sex (read: bank robbing) made you have a baby?
-
I don't see how robbing a bank is wrong. I do it weekly, sometimes daily. The only baby I got was the one I found inside one of the bags of money.
-
Maybe Markio's mom went to the same school as he.
-
I learned about sex on the internet too...secretly. Are we allowed to talk about this?
-
Of course not. You're all banned. XP
-
NNNNNOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
-
How did this even come about this? Things like this should not be discussed on the Fungi Forums! ...unless you are PMing.
-
Or should it?........
: - O
-
...Only if you are PMing. :-\
-
Remember everyone. This is an uderaged topic, which doesn't really mean anything.
I think my new CT is more offensive than the last one. I must be on someone's bad side.
-
Uderaged topic? What, we're talking about fat European kids from the Simpsons now??
-
Ok. Underaged. XD It could have been udderaged! Cows!!
-
udderaged!
Don't milk me!!
-
i dont think anyone here is under 13
-
That's not right.
-
Good [golly], read the rest of the topic.
~Problem solved. ;) ~Sapph
-
I would feel happier if you didn't take the Lord's name in vein.
Try these alternatives...
"Nuts!"
"Awww shucks!"
"Ugh!"
"Curses!"
-
i dont think anyone here is under 13
I am. The 13 thing was kind of like a recomendation, not a rule. PLEASE, don't hurt me!!
-
Let's raid this underaged kid's house! D:<
-
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
*Runs from home, watching rioters burn down house*
Why, oh why? I was SOOOO close to getting that last shine on SMS.
-
thats okay dude677, i wont hurt 'ya (im NOT much older)
-
They get told on kupo.
-
*runs away too, as he's underaged* Help me! I still have the DK hammer and a Hammer Bros. hammer too!
-
Both? Well, I have...this..thing.
Boo!
Oh, and I lied about my age. I'm actually negative forty years old, which doesn't make any sense unless you think about it. In which case it still doesn't.
-
what age IS underage?
-
You have to be joking.
Being younger than the reccommended/required age.
However, I, sadly am one of those underage members.
-
i guess I am too, :)
-
No, you are older than Aarom11, the recomended age is 13.
-
I'm*feed is cut out*
-
Looks like we've lost him! :D
-
Toooo bad! The feed was cut out to save my age! :D You're trapped. Muwahahahaha!
-
Well if the age thing isn't so serious and a parent has given permission for a child to post and visit to this Forum why would whoever puts those little white captions under the names make derogatory remarks under them? I'm not wanting to sound any way but concerned as I saw a message under someones name that said "Yet another underage liar" or something like that. If it's no big deal why do that to someone who you suspect of being underage and impressionable?
-
And my age just for general information is 42 or something like that. I come here to make sure my kid isn't getting into anything indecent like a good parent would. I also need help with the games we play together :P
-
Because most kids do not get permission from their parents and instead lie on the page that verifies whether they are 13 or older. US law requires us to collect written verification from a parent. Verbal permission is not sufficient, especially when it involves falsifying the forum sign-up process.
And since I see that you're talking about your own son, he honestly hasn't shown enough maturity to be posting here, but so far we've been relaxed and haven't outright banned him yet.
-
Notice that the registration form does not provide any contact info for this forum's administrators to receive written permission from the parent. This is because, as a rule of thumb, children under 13 usually do not have the maturity level needed to be on this forum.
-
Neither do a lot of the over-13 members.
-
Notice that the registration form does not provide any contact info for this forum's administrators to receive written permission from the parent.
False. The information is provided when it is necessary. We've had several parents send us signed permission forms. If you say you're 13+, the form does not appear.
-
Ah. Most forums I've seen mention on the registration page that if you are under 13 you have to have parent's permission sent to the forum.
-
Neither do a lot of the over-13 members.
I can think of quite a few off the top of my head. :P
-
If you really are 12, I don't mind, because I'm 12 too...
And me!
(Of course, I do turn thirteen in seven days, but still.)
-
PaperMario should nearly be 14 now.
-
Three things:
Why, oh why, did I have to see two of my old n00bish posts? I can't believe I acted that way online when I wasn't like that at all in real life.
How the heck did this end up in Site Discussion? Did I seriously post it here? I almost clearly remember seeing this is General Chat...must be a mistake.
Lastly, the age limit doesn't really matter when you still have 20-year-olds and up posting "lol rofl u r such a tard" and such on websites everywhere. But, the 13 age limit is a decent, unenforced guideline or something. :/
-
So yeah. What happens? I mean, there shouldn't be a reason for an age limit.
You know that giant fern in the back yard of TMK's.. back yard?
-
OK well my son really likes this Forum. He thinks the world of the people he has met here and I was the one that told him he could sign up. Because I think a lot of the postings here are informational and entertaining and suitable to his maturity level (which I have seen in a lot of posts, it's been where he has gotten most of his ideas). I just didn't think it was a real nice way of saying what the person wanted to say when they put that tag on him. Even older folk can get emotional about such things as that.He didn't really mind the tag so much but it doesn't speak real high of the maturity level of the one that put it there. I was a little more upset about it than he was really. I can understand why you wouldn't want certain information given out on-line about kids too which is why I am always watching what he posts and what gets posted to him because it all seems to come to my email address :) Like I said we both really like the place and if he gets kicked off because of what I said then I'm sorry to him in advance.
-

That doesn't really answer my question about the white captions.
-
The captions are what we call "custom titles." For the regular members, they are mainly given out as jokes. (Look at mine.) We understand this, and we like them. New members that have something about them that we don't like will get bad ones that usually pertain to whatever it is that we don't like about them. As for what you said about the maturity level of the posts here, there is the problem. Your son's posts are not up to this level. Our community needs a certain level of maturity, and we do not want those who are under it. I hate to say all this so bluntly, but there really is no other way.
-
Basically, some of the staff here like to get their jollies by giving degrading Custom Titles to members that annoy them in some way. Yes, it's a rude policy and rather immature.
-

This is a legitimate answer to my question and a very truthful one from what I have seen. As for what Maxine or Max whatever said I understand what you are saying as well and to put it bluntly as you say his maturity level is as good as some and not as malicious as others. Though like I had said earlier there are a lot of good posters here and there is a lot of useful information along with the fun and wacky a community is based on the strengths and weakness of its members.
-

Haw haw, he called Max Maxine...
EDIT: Ah, didn't notice the CT. :P
-
Whoops no offense by that because when I was posting I couldn't remember his name other than it started out with Max and had some other letters behind it so I thought that maybe it was Maxine since I couldn't remember if it was a girl type person who was making those comments or if it was a guy. Struck me as being kind of feminine so I went with Maxine instead of something more masculine like Maxwell or some such. Sorry if I offended it wasn't intentional... though it seemed to fit.
-

HAHAHA....dude, you crack me up!
-
Here's some coffee for you, MaxVance.
Oops, you spilled it!
You just got burned!
-
What kind of luck must I have to miss this?

-
I have looked into some of pichu25's posts and I admit some of them weren't on topic and some were a bit whacked out...but a lot of them did follow with the topic they were posted in. *eats a little humble pie* A verysmall piece. We are working on this with him because of some problems in school with writing. And with his interest in all things Nintendo <does mean all things. The school and I thought this would help him and it really has to a great degree irl. Again I want to publicly thank those who have been helping him out. They are a great asset to this community and show what it means to be a great member of any community
-
You know, I wonder if there are any other forums out there that would put up with the legal guardian of an underage member getting on the boards and speaking on behalf of said underage member. TMK is quite unique.
-
I think that TMK is unique in more ways than that. I also think that any legal guardian that doesn't speak up on behalf of their children aren't worth much imo. And there isn't anything in the rules about speaking out on behalf of anyone. If I thought there was an injustice being done to someone I would speak out on behalf of them as well. In this case there isn't any injustice being done. The CT although a bit harsh imo has had an affect on the person it was given to and I have seen improvements irl. He understands it and was dealing with it on his own. I was the one curious about it and I was just voicing my own concerns on it.
