Site Discussion / Miis Bii-gone
« on: June 30, 2008, 06:18:47 AM »
I know that J.J.'s caricatures can't be surpassed, but I cannot stand the Miis on TMK's current staff page. Deezer looks like a little kid, Sapphira looks like an old woman, Chupperson looks like a forgiving person. All that, and the fact that Miis are so generic. Everybody's using their Mii as an avatar these days.
So here. Using J.J.'s depictions, the Miis, and some secretive references, I made my own caricatures of the staff.

They're all yours, Deezer.

Ah, and, there's also a Chupperson minus the beard. But he also doesn't have the fire in his eyes.

I'm going to get right in and unleash my feelings about the word "bludgeon."

Bludgeon... it's so simple, yet refined and mature...

Its definition and connotation just leak from its lettering and sound like he savory liquids from a hamburger. Bludgeon. The presence of the "udge" really add the oomph to it. It sounds fierce. It sounds brutal. But at the same time, you can look at it and tell that it's not all beatings and violence. Even when not physically harmed, a villain can be bludgeoned with justice. A mother bludgeons her children with love. A liar will bludgeon you with insincerity.

Bludgeon... it's the best word in the English language.

This is an epic comic series about (not "starring") Waluigi.

1. Waluigi Reads and Speaks With the Paper
2. The Secret of the Purple Hat
3. At Diza's
4. Flight Fright
5. Airline Food
6. The Dream (read right-to-left like manga)

When it's pouring rain, you may get the urge to stuff yourself with bacon or enjoy a cup of hot coffee. I don't know what Yoshi ate, but there was probably a lot of it.

It's a comic. Click.

I got a bit carried away when I was making the design for Picky's shirt... Why did I make original shirts for Picky and Pokey? 'Cause it's boring wearing the same clothes every day.

In the plural sense. What are your favorites?

In attempted numerical order (meaning I'm not looking anything up)...

Pikachu
Lickitung
Hitmonlee
Cyndaquil/Quilava/Typhlosion
Furret
Umbreon
Wooper/Quagsire
Politoed
Torchic/Combusken (and not Blaziken)
Castform

That's all I can think of at the moment.

There is REALLY only one way to look at this, and that's in its full size, so click here immediately. The resize sucks. That's the problem with comic strips--too wide. And that white line of emptiness at the bottom does not exist in the "real" one.
Waluigi spends most of his single-player time with level one computers.

Bubble Monkey, from EarthBound (made after "They Look Like Zombies" but before "The Kraken Attackin'").

Wario, with half of his left arm not inexistent, but obscured by his f-flab.

Torchic... who is Torchic!

Added June 6th

Furret using flamethrower. Furret's one of my favorites...

Mallow. Tasty.

Mr. Pika. That's what Captain Jim named his partner in Mystery Dungeon, and this is how I think he should look.

New Age Retro Hippie, EarthBound. Look at that black belt!!

Fan Creations / Chupperson's Vacation in Bloody Ol' England
« on: May 29, 2008, 07:00:58 PM »

TEM was having his "guess what game I'm thinking of with little to nothing to go on" game and, like always, I started making up fake game titles. One of them was Chupperson's Vacation in Bloody Ol' England, and the idea went over well. I suppose it's from this game that Chupperson's moves in TMK:SBaOIS would come.

More EarthBound. The jolly old Captain tells Ness a long rambling story of times long in the past, and Ness listens politely. Jeff, who rarely sleeps, stays up fixing who-knows-what into a battle-ready gadget. Paula and Poo have already nodded off, and no one notices the perpetually bloody-mouthed Kraken drawing near to the ship. This is the last night The Captain will spend with his prized slippers.

"BP, why in heck do you waste your time showing EarthBound fan art to a bunch of people who haven't played the game?" Well... I finally realized why. I want you to play it! I have to show you how good it is.

Fan Creations / Good Old Enemies
« on: May 21, 2008, 02:14:55 AM »

I've talked about this in #tmk a couple of times. I really want to see some old enemies revived, preferably in a [traditional] Paper Mario game. The series brought back Fuzzies, Lantern Ghosts, Li'l Sparky, and others...

And I feel like writing a bit about their greatness.

The Super Koopa. When you think of a shell-less Koopa, you think of a sadly squishy little being with nothing to stop Mario's big brown boots from ending his game. But with a cape, anything can be super!  Now these little ones shoot down from the heavens at our heroes, easily avoiding many means of attack. What style!

The Yoshi's Island Pokey and its good buddy, the Needlenose. I actually didn't know that this springy, rapturous plant was a variant of the segmented Pokey we all know (and are all disappointed about ever since the change in Sunshine (right?)). I just love enemies who smile as they slow you down on your mission--you can't help but think that this pair is good at heart. But they're in the way, so you swallow the Needlenose. Aww! You made Pokey sad...

Lastly, the Goonie. "Such a minimalist representation of a bird... Eyes, beak, legs, a little tuft of feathers, and wings." - Fifth. It's true. This is just about as simple a bird anyone could think of, save the McDonald's M. But that's where their charm lies. But are they even enemies?  They seem peaceful, and can't be all bad--they seem comfortable enough giving Yoshis rides for free.
