...uh

there are no words

When someone goes through something that no one should, in a just world, have to go through, and you learn about it like this... wow. This is absolutely terrible. I'm at a loss for what to say, because I can't convey how badly I feel for you in simple words.

;_;

One guy on another site suggested saving massive amounts of smut to an external hard drive and becoming a porn dealer.

This is pretty much a foregone conclusion if this does pass -- It'll work as well as the War on Drugs, or Prohibition.

Really we as a society need to worry far more about authoritarians than left vs. right -- and porn bans are a great issue to sniff them out on both sides of the aisle. LWAs will go ZOMG "women's rights" and RWAs will go ZOMG "morality and Jebus" but the goal of both is the same -- to limit the individual freedoms of others, especially in avenues they don't understand well like the internet (you don't think SOPA is going to actually pass one of these days behind our backs when the media's busy feigning outrage over something else?).

"Eliminating Gender Stereotypes in the EU"

Most Orwellian named bill since the Patriot Act. Authoritarianism alive and well everywhere in the world, just seems like it's of a different stripe in the EU than in the US.

From what to what, I.S.?

Straight to bi (preferring women). Or, Kinsey 0 to Kinsey 2. This actually happened between when I last left the boards and when I came back, basically it's hard to describe but somehow a latent part of my sexuality got woken up due to various things happening.

I think what bothers me about this is this it actually lends some credence to the idea that bigots like to throw around that sexuality is a choice and that gay people can be "cured" (by isolating and assaulting them in some cases). I kind of think that, from my experiences, that you can change in a way where you gain some affinity towards your non-preferred sex, but not the other way around. Like, I don't think there'd be any event short of head trauma that would cause me to not be attracted to women, but over the last year and a half or so I kind of discovered that I'm nowhere near as adverse to sexual encounters with men as I thought.

As for surnames, my thoughts have been that in my ideal world no one changes their name when they marry, and that the child takes on the name of the same-sex parent (in cases where the sex of the child is easily determined). I think the only real problem with this is that some people who care far too much about their lineage might force their partner to keep having children until they get one of each sex in the cases where two people have several children of the same sex in a row.

I mean, I got a pretty masculine sounding last name and I really can't think of too many female names that go well with it. I know that my girlfriend's name sounds kind of terrible with my last name and I honestly wouldn't care at all if she kept her name (I'm not doing the hyphenated garbage, though. Screw that).

Statistically insignificant difference between Stein and Johnson (84% vs. 83%), slightly less for Obama (76%), almost nothing at all in common with Romney (11%). I think when I took this before and Virgil Goode was on the list I actually scored a higher percent for him than Romney, which kind of says something about Romney because I think Goode is a dangerous sociopath.

I apparently agree with 15% of the Republican platform somehow, which is about 15% more of it than I expected.

EDIT: I also apparently live in Kansas according to this poll. And somehow agree with them in 60% of things, which considering some of the stories I've heard about Kansas state politics scares me a lot. But no, I definitely remember voting in Indiana and, despite the lines for the polls being like an hour long for some reason, that it was very worth it to be able to cast a vote against "Rapey Dick" Mourdoch. I actually didn't even care about the presidental race (voted for Obama, but probably would've voted for Stein if she were even on the IN ballot), but the Senate race was that important to me that the wait was really worth it.

As someone whose sexual orientation actually did change, I'm laughing really hard at the thread right now :D

I lose every time I read the student loan debt thread. I've probably stopped myself halfway from making a post that would've more than likely gotten me banned at least twice.

Pretty sure the most telling thing about that video is that it has ratings and comments disabled.

I mean it's a bit (ok perhaps somewhat more than a bit) out there but if it's not hurting anyone what's the problem?

Sweet! That means tomorrow is Go to Every Store I Know of and Buy a Ton of Half Priced Candy Day! I hope there will still be some left by the time I leave work, though.

For what it's worth I met the person I've been seeing for over 5 years now as a direct result of a link posted on this forum. I guess the moral is that if you want to find someone to start dating, stay on the internet forever and keep following links until one of them leads to something.

Not at the Dinner Table / Re: What's your opinion on swearing/cussing?
« on: February 10, 2013, 02:41:13 AM »
Almost forgot: swears of different "types" come out very differently for me.

I have a difficult time ever using swears that are meant to demean people with a specific attribute (racial/gender slurs, etc.) - even demonstratively.
I tend to avoid but will sometimes use blasphemous swears.
I use scatological swears, at least with familiars, about as fluidly as I'll use any other non-offensive word in the English language. I have been known to drop f-bombs at a rate of at least one per sentence when I'm on certain tangents (or drunk). I am well aware this completely causes them to lose their meaning if you know me well enough. Meh.
