I'm serious, it's so evil to have to click return to forum and always having to log on.

It does have cookies. How do you think it keeps track of the "Show posts from last ? days" selection, and the "Remember your details" part? However, this forum is primitive, and so you never "log on" per se, you just post a message with your name on it and a password to correctly identify that it's you.
