In a short interview with Wired Magazine, Shigeru Miyamoto discussed Nintendo's gamble with the Wii Remote, the semi-game nature of titles such as Wii Fit, and most amusingly, how quality control is conducted by saying "Oh, this looks like a Sega game. We need to make it look more like Mario."

Wait, I thought Gunpei Yokoi invented the standard controller.
That was a joke.

Yeah, people have kind of been going off on that. The general consensus is either that it's a mistranslation or this is just another part of the humiliation they made Yokoi endure after the VB's failure. My take on the whole thing? I just knew that "Nintendo" made it, so I can't comment.

Honestly, I think people are taking this a little too far. I think what he just meant is that he wants Nintendo games to always be unique. It's not like he's saying that being like Sega is a terrible thing. I mean, nagging voice acting, ending every level with a letter rating, and occasionally embarassing music isn't typical of Nintendo, but it's certainly not an outright sin.

Why is there a BB code tag in place of an HTML tag...?

What? They're making a new Mario game? Complete with new worlds and levels?

Gunpei practically invented Nintendo. Everything now sucks because he died.

That was a joke.
