I may be horribly inattentive but how long has The Chef been a mod? Because he just locked a topic Glorb bumped.
-
The funny thing is, when that thread got linked to, I thought "I should pull a Glorb and super-bump that..."
But really, why is reviving a really old topic a lockable offense?
-
I don't want a mod who locks bumped topics. >:(
And I seriously don't understand why people whine over Glorb's antics. They're funny as hell.
-
Chef became a mod just recently.
I don't want a member who bumps threads for no reason but I'm stuck with Glorb.
But I will agree, in this case I don't personally think locking the thread was necessary. I'm not going to undermine Chef and unlock it, but you have to realize it's a judgment call on the part of the mod/admin.
If you actually want to know why something was done, ask them instead of criticizing.
-
Fair enough, fair enough.
-
I was wondering about Chef's modhood as well, but I figured that he held the title for a year and I just hadn't noticed.
-
I just got made a mod at the beginning of the week.
For the record, I locked the topic because a) Glorb's bump really was pointless and b) the topic was fairly idiotic to begin with.
-
I still don't see how it hurts anybody to have an "old" and/or "stupid" thread revived.
-
It wasn't so much that the thread was revived that it was Glorb bumping it for no discernable reason, which I'm pretty sure is against the rules.
-
I just broke the rule that says you're not to complain about a moderator's actions.
This is just really weird, for years you were a fellow regular member and now we have to answer to you. :/
-
It sure feels weird being the guy who has to watch the place.
Then again, considering how many of the other mods have vanished I guess its almost a necessity to have some new blood on the force.

IS THE CHEF THE ONLY ONE AROUND HERE WHO GIVES A DUKAR ABOUT THE RULES?
-
I still don't see how it hurts anybody to have an "old" and/or "stupid" thread revived.
No bumping for the sake of bumping.
-
Oh, yeah, I forgot that was actually a rule.
-
EM just alerted me about this bizarre turn of events. I'm going into yellow alert; from now on any post I make will be tailor-made to offend Chef and see how long it takes before I get a 3-Week Preffered Member Semi-Ban.

Part of me thinks that Glorb really likes Fight Club.
-
I do.
The book and movie are also good too.
-
Er, Super-level mods can't ban. Sorry, pal.
-
Curses Chef then why'd you even become a mod.
-
Glorb, why are you complaining? Be glad they didn't pick someone who we don't get along with and that they picked someone who we have at least known for quite a while. I could easily see worse candidates.
-
Yeah, Glorb. Think of how bad things would be if they picked you to be a mod.

In case you don't know, the 32x is often referred to as Sega nuking themselves (it even looks like a mushroom cloud), and we'd be nuking ourselves by even suggesting Glorb being mod.
-
Although completely off topic, I've never seen a 32X on a Genesis 1 before.
-
Nenson, you went way to far trying to make a point that time.
-
Although completely off topic, I've never seen a 32X on a Genesis 1 before.
Neither have I.
I have a question. What was the thread in question that got bumped by glorb and how old was it?
Also, glorb you suck at trolling/making sarcastic + witty remarks.

You never cease to confuse me.

I'm nominating myself as mod so I can save everyone the trouble.
-
Come on guys; my post wasn't that bad.
-
Glorb for mod, 2012. I second that nomination.

Kimimaru has a red name too.

Don't call it a comeback
I've been here for years
Rockin my peers and puttin suckas in fear
Watchin the tears rain down like a

soon
listen to the bass go boom
But seriously, to whoever it was that banned me, I promise I will never "every" ever again. Probably because the Chef is a mod now and there's really no reason for me to stick around aside from seeing the formerly quite reasonable Trainman spew insane vitriol whenever I make a post.
-
Someone please explain what just happened.
-
Kimimaru has a red name too.
That's interesting. Huh.
-
Someone please explain what just happened.
Glorb has been banned... again, and is now presumably posting behind a proxy.
-
Glorb, I warned you for years that if you every even once on this forum they would insta-ban without remorse, but looks like you finally done gone and decided to every like a fool.
-
Every time you every, God kills a kitten.
-
Really? I every twice a day usually. I just get the sudden urge to every when I'm in bed.
-
Okay, there's a reference here that's flying over my head.
-
Um...just the fact that the message said Glorb is banned from "every" ever again.
-
Okay, there's a reference here that's flying over my head.
Yes, in fact, it's flying seven posts over your head!
-
Okay, I think I get it now. I mean, I'm not 100% clear on everything, but I don't want to kill the joke by overanalyzing it.
-
I am pretty sure it is just that Glorb was banned with a reason of "every," and we are acting stupid because stupid stupid.
-
Yes, in fact, it's flying seven posts over your head!
HEYOOOOO!
-
Glorb has been banned... again, and is now presumably posting behind a proxy.
A what now? I simply got unbanned a day or three after being banned. Which is a big mistake because now I'm going to every my mule off like there's no tomorrow.
-
I'd like to every your mule off ;)
-
It was a temp ban.
-
It was under 100 degrees the day you were allowed to come back.
-
It was a temp ban.
Clearly. I'm just curious as to why every is suddenly against the rules.
-
Didn't you hear? Every masterminded 9/11. Wake up, sheeple!
-
Every started also sank the Titanic, started World War II and broke up the Beatles.
-
Man, every was behind everything.
USER WAS BANNED FOR THIS POST
REASON: PUN TOO OBVIOUS
-
I find it amusing that Glorb didn't get banned until I was away from the forum for four days.
-
Every jokes are all good and fun but now that Glorb's CT is actually changed to "Banned" I want to know what he keeps actually doing?
-
My favorite part of that picture is when you guys stop talking about all your nerd feces.
One of the mods probably banned him for this post and many others similar to it. That's just my guess.
I really don't see what the issue is though. Yeah he says stuff to tick people off. Yeah he's a troll. So what? Some of his posts are really funny, and (to the hypersensitive) they're ignorable. It's not like Glorb was directing malice towards specific members, and he contributes quality (albeit strange) material from time to time.
-
I'm pretty sure he got banned for that bear picture he posted with the questionable microphone. Considering Deezer edited it out, I think it's safe to say he was the one who banned Glorb.
And for clarification's sake, Moderators don't have the power to ban members.
-
So if Black Mage isn't a mod anymore, is it safe to assume that The Chef is the mod for Video Game Chat?

I would count his recently incessant trolling as spamming/flooding. Which might just be me.
-
So if Black Mage isn't a mod anymore, is it safe to assume that The Chef is the mod for Video Game Chat?
No; he's just a moderator.
-
See I knew it. Now that he's banned, everybody will complain.
-
Are you for real? Only PaperLuigi is complaining, and you wouldn't have to be a prophet to have predicted that.
-
Welcome to the world of authority, The Chef. No matter what you do, people will hate you for it.
-
I'm already plotting his assassination.
-
Therefore, he should do nothing?
-
This is every amusing.

-
Stop closing threads.
-
Don't tell me what to do.
-
*POPCORN YOSHI LULZ*
-
You're just closing thread after thread for the sake of using your new power. The forum is dead enough without having threads closed every day.
-
In his defense, the last few have been some pretty lame threads.
-
Lamers and n00bs are usually the only members with the balls to actually make new threads. Then everyone else comes to the thread and makes jokes or starts discussing/arguing about something. But The Chef is closing threads every day before they have a chance.
He should change his name to The Abortionist.
-
He's closing threads because they don't deserve the chance. And quite frankly, it's nice to see the rules (well, guidelines, in the case of the new thread) being enforced.
-
Every thread deserves the chance.
-
Says the guy who got fired for lack of contribution.
-
I personally don't see a point in reviving old threads. The only funny thing about that is the thread itself, not the post that bumped it. If I want to get a good laugh, I'll scroll through old threads.
-
I find it funny that when people ask about making a new thread, everyone else says to find it in old threads. But when old threads are posted in, they get flamed and closed. Or when there's no old thread to be found, and the new thread is made, it gets flamed and closed anyway.
-
Well, a lot of the threads that have been revived lately have been crazy-ass and/or oddly specific ones started eight years ago. Not that I see a problem with bumping them, but they weren't exactly bristling with conversational potential.
-
I'm with LD on this one. I've came to think of the "You ___, You ___" and "___ thread" threads as lame. Some original threads are nice even if they see lame. I'd just let the lame ones die in favor of getting a few good new ones instead of the general "post here" type threads that have sucked up so many posts lately.
-
Says the guy who got fired for lack of contribution.
Not exactly. I felt it would be a conflict of interest if I remained staff while dating Deezer's mum, so I quit.
-
Thus far The Chef has locked:
-two ancient threads, one bumped by Glorb in an attempt at humor, the other by a new user (do they just have every thread ever made in their "unread posts" list or something?)
-an especially-stupid forum game
-a thread that had served its purpose
I'm not seeing "thread after thread" being locked.
when old threads are posted in, they get flamed and closed
Because when old threads are posted in, it's usually either a new user bumping an ancient thread and responding to users who haven't visited this forum in years, or (until recently) Glorb.
when there's no old thread to be found, and the new thread is made, it gets flamed and closed anyway
When did this happen?
-
I'm not seeing "thread after thread" being locked.
Now do you?
I don't know how The Chef became a mod, but it's ridiculous. He's mean-spirited (http://themushroomkingdom.net/board/index.php?topic=6635.msg585013#msg585013) to members and closes thread after thread (http://themushroomkingdom.net/board/index.php?board=500.0) that no one wants closed. Why does this guy have power? He uses it to make the Fungi Forums a worse place.
-
He's particularly horrible when it comes to insulting his fellow members, both here and in the chatroom (where he does so on a regular basis, and, as far as abusing his power there goes, he's been known to kick users for having different opinions than he does).
I propose an addition to the forum rules stating that moderators are not above the rules.
-
So many poison mushrooms in Mario Chat...
He could definitely stand to be less confrontational. Some people like non-DKC games, deal with it bro. Jungle Beat raping elements from Rareware games doesn't stop it from being fun.
-
He also allows himself to be trolled by obvious trolls.
-
Putting aside personal preferences and politeness, or lack thereof, I'm pretty sure lexc's recent spree in Mario Chat counts as flooding. And frankly, I'm glad someone is actually paying attention to that sort of thing.
-
Yeah except other members were responding to lexc123's topics and having fun.
-
That seems a lot like the Steven9wii threads from some time ago. Some were having fun, while others were annoyed. But in lexc's defense, those seemed like legitimate, if shallow topics. Steven's stuff was complete nonsense.
-
Now he's renaming threads he doesn't find named to his satisfaction. Christ on a cracker, Chef, stop meddling!
-
He renamed one thread to fit a more general purpose.
How is that different from moving "Hi-Def Mario"?
-
It's not. Both pointless meddling.
-
I'm beginning to question how serious LD is about these matters.
-
I don't really want to be a mod, but I still think I'd be a pretty good one if I was. Unassuming, at least.
-
How To Be A Good Mod
1) Do nothing
2) Congratulations! You're a good mod!
How To Be A Bad Mod
1) Lock some threads
2) Change the titles of threads
3) Split posts from threads into other threads
4) Maybe ban some people
5) Congratulations! You're a bad mod!
6) Remember not to stop your meddling, otherwise you might accidentally become a good mod
-
Why do we have mods anyway?

-
Why do we have mods anyway?
What if a disgruntled troll began posting Holocaust porn all over Fungi Forums?
-
How To Be A Good Mod
Impossible. Once you have that title, you are automatically either useless or on a power trip. No exceptions.
-
How To Be A Good Mod
1) Do nothing
Just in case you're serious, I just want to say that this is a bad idea.
-
What if a disgruntled troll began posting Holocaust porn all over Fungi Forums?
Point taken, but I'd secretly laugh.
-
Haha, I remember a long time ago when I locked a couple pointless threads and edited some posts and a bunch of people complained.
Good times, those.
-
Remember when I got out the ban hammer and deleted several topics last night? Just say'n.
-

Lizard Dude was probably still staff then.
Good times.

Good times.
Good times.

Just because he is more handsome, more self-possessed, more relaxed, wiser, and a better athlete than the rest of us does not mean he is superior to us. He is also superior to us for other reasons. As for the rest of us in power, we are so anxious to establish the myth of infallibility that we do our utmost to ignore this truth.
-
Why was he fired, anyway?
-
For following his own "How to be a Good Mod" list of course.
-
I fight for the Users.
-
I fight for my friends.
-
You'll get no sympathy from me.
-
Piece of cake!
-
Wahahahaha! Gahahahaha! BWAHAHAHAHAHA!
-
This is a perfect example of what happens to pretty much every thread.
-
He did it!
/me points at Turtlekid1.
-
Oh, did I win?
-
Great Palutena, victory is ours!
-
*poot
Oooo...
-
Be still.
-
We gonna have fun with this thang...
This is a perfect example of what happens to pretty much every thread.
But apparently I'm the only one who deserves any flak for it.
-
Hands off my freight.
-
I hate you guys, but I still laughed.
But apparently I'm the only one who deserves any flak for it.
Quit acting like you're some exception here. Every moderator who does anything takes flak for it.
You have two choices:
1) Continue to make changes and deal with it.
2) Don't make changes and wonder why you're a mod.
-
Another (http://themushroomkingdom.net/board/index.php?topic=13008.0) good thread needlessly bites the dust, and it wasn't even The Chef this time.
I think I'm going to enact a Hydra Protocol and create two new threads for every one the mods strike down.
-
I know, I liked that thread! I mean, I guess we can still read the older posts, but I think it was different from "Classic Quotes from Forum Members" (as I personally stated, that one is unofficially focused on Chatroom banter). And why did it take a post by, er, "A" to close it when it had been around awhile?
-
:( (http://themushroomkingdom.net/board/index.php?topic=13640.msg589067#msg589067)
The difference is that it sucked less. Humor typically involves a combination of truth and absurdity. "Stupid qusestion, stupid answer" is all absurdity, which can be fun in its own right, but "Smart question, stupid answer" had a lot of potential. Granted, it probably would've eventually gotten derailed like it did back when dc804 made the same thread, but it wasn't there yet.
And anyway, it's Forum Games.
-
He's like that one buff dude at the beach who needlessly flexes his muscles to impress everyone. Okay, we get it, you have power, now stop making an ass out of yourself.
-
The Chef is a bully and an imbecile, closing another thread that not a single user wanted closed, everyone was having fun with, and in a forum where posts don't even count.
Thanks for your continuing efforts to lessen the Fungi Forums, Chef.
-
Is rudeness so essential to the point you're trying to make that you had to insult the man?
-
As soon as I saw that padlock symbol beside the thread's title, I thought to myself, "Let me guess, it's... Yep."
-
Is rudeness so essential to the point you're trying to make that you had to insult the man?
Is it rudeness if it's true?
As soon as I saw that padlock symbol beside the thread's title, I thought to myself, "Let me guess, it's... Yep."
Same. Pretty sure everyone thought that.
-
There was probably only one way Chef could have saved face from his inexplicable closing of that thread, which was to let PL's revival stand.
So what does he do?
Shuts it right down. *slow clap*
-
you guyyyyyyys and your dramaaaaaaaa
[14:29] <Ventricle> I only locked that thread because I had no idea how to merge it
[14:29] <Ventricle> and you weren't here to help
[14:29] <Ventricle> and now suddenly I'm Herbert Hoover
[14:30] <Skeleton> what now
[14:30] <Skeleton> Oh
[14:31] <Skeleton> Why'd you want to merge this one, it is different
[14:31] <Ventricle> if I tell them what I meant to do now they'll never believe me
[14:31] <Ventricle> I looked in the thread
[14:31] <Ventricle> it was...pretty much the same thing
[14:31] <Skeleton> Nah
[14:31] <Skeleton> You can ask whatever you want in stupid/stupid
[14:31] <Skeleton> In smart/stupid the question has to be more intellectual
[14:32] <Ventricle> most of the question there were based on 'intellegent' questions anyway
[14:32] <Ventricle> I figured merging it would be better than closing it outright
[14:32] <Ventricle> but i have no idea how to do that
[14:33] <Skeleton> There's a merge topics button
[14:33] <Skeleton> It walks you through the procedure
[14:33] <Ventricle> where is this button
[14:34] <Skeleton> Below "Send topic," to the right of "lock/unlock" at the bottom of the page
[14:34] <Skeleton> But really, I'd leave it alone
[14:34] <Skeleton> It's not hurting anybody
[14:34] <Ventricle> I didn't want to lock it
[14:35] <Ventricle> point is, the damage has already been done and now everybody hates me even more
[14:35] <Ventricle> BP that merge topics button doesn't appear for me
[14:35] <Skeleton> Huh.
[14:36] <Ventricle> do I not have the power to merge?
[14:36] <Skeleton> Must be a fiery-and-up thing
-
Oh yeah those are me and The Chef, he changed his name to Ventricle and I got into a terrible real accident that turned me into a skeleton
-
[14:29] <Ventricle> I only locked that thread because I had no idea how to merge it
[14:34] <Ventricle> I didn't want to lock it
Here's the thing. Even if you wanted to merge it, or whatever, and couldn't figure it out (even though it's as easy as locking a thread), why would you think outright locking it instead of waiting to merge it when you had help was the better solution? It's not as though the thread was going to disappear if you waited a day. I don't see the logic in this defense.
[14:35] <Ventricle> point is, the damage has already been done and now everybody hates me even more
Or you could unlock it, learn from this and move on.
-
[14:35] <Ventricle> point is, the damage has already been done and now everybody hates me even more
Boo hoo. You could've just left it alone. Or unlock it.
-
Is it rudeness if it's true?
Rudeness is completely separate from truth, and while they aren't mutually exclusive, you're not going to win anyone over by being rude.
-
It is tough to take a side when the side you agree with is so whiny
-
He's mean-spirited to members
The Chef is a bully and an imbecile
Pot, kettle, two wrongs not right, et cetera.
-
I don't have any powers and don't represent The Mushroom Kingdom staff. When I started being mean to some people I got kicked off. HINT HINT
-
So if you can't be a mod, neither can I. Real mature.
And I don't see why you're calling me "mean" when my intents weren't malicious in the slightest. At least I don't regularly pick on Turtle over his beliefs or Weegee because of his bias.
-
Has nothing to do with that. Notice I don't go around complaining about any other mods. And gee come to think of it, none of the other mods have 10-page complaint threads about them. (Well, except Sapphira.)
Warp's mean quote was not about this incident. Unless you're saying calling Kimimaru a wuss for leaving wasn't malicious in the slightest.
And please leave WeeGee's bisexuality out of this.
