Announced on October 2nd, Club Nintendo has finally come to North America. Much like the Japanese Club Nintendo, American gamers can register Nintendo products to earn "Coins," which can be redeemed for exclusive goodies. As expected, the program launches with some Mario-themed merchandise:

 - Hanafuda Cards (800 Coins)
 - Mario Party Playing Cards (600 Coins)
 - Mario Nintendo DS Game Rack (600 Coins)
 - Nintendo DS Game Card and Stylus Set (600 Coins)

Club Nintendo also offers Game & Watch Collection for 800 Coins. Previously only available through Club Nintendo in Japan, this Nintendo DS game includes the Multi Screen Game & Watch version of Donkey Kong.

Well, it's nowhere near as good as the stuff Japan's been getting for years, but it's a start.

Urg, I can't get it to work...When I put in the PIN number, it ignores me.

I get the same thing then I have to keep signing in. How annoying! You only get three games on G&W watch Collection? I hope it saves my scores for 800 coins. Japan has Game & Watch Collection 2 as well as Tingle Balloon Kid! I hope it gets better. I'm so annoyed that I'd like to lick a lemon lollipop in Lillyhammer.

I'm going to sign-up in a few weeks, after the entire internet stops hammering it at once.

Well, it's seems like it still has a long way to go. I registered WarioWare: Smooth moves, but it didn't give me any points. Still, it's pretty exciting entering a code. Hope they get it fixed soon.

You don't get points just for registering your games you also have to fill out surveys. I'll wait a week until it calms down a bit.

I finally got it to work!  Unfortunately, I only have 50 coins worth of registrable merchandise, as I bought most of my games used...

I heard about Club Nintendo upon purchasing the Japanese SMB2 for GBA off of eBay. I never thought it would come to America, though...

I can't, however, figure out how to register Virtual Console games.

They get registered automatically if you have your Wii signed up with the same e-mail or something.
That was a joke.

There are two ways of registering:

1. If you have an existing Nintendo account, it'll automatically transfer your account information to Club Nintendo.

2. Create a new account at Club Nintendo.

The site seems to have calmed down quite a bit if anyone's interested.

I don't get it.   Can we register the barcode number on the back of DS/Wii game boxes that were bought before Club Nintendo launched in the States, or do the products have to have been recently bought?  If it's the later, THEY MESSED UP AGAIN!  First (in recent years) the Wii's crappy memory system.

I think it's the registration number inside the box that says "Register your software."

NE89 is right, but some of those don't transfer.  Also, most all of the games that can get coins are first party.  A few VC/WW games are third party though.  So far it only appears Secret of Mana has a Post Play survey though.  The other surveys should come in 4 to 6 weeks.  Of course you don't get coins for just registering.  You also have to do a survey.

I've completed all the surveys that end before March 2011 and ordered the Hanafuda Cards.  I'll hold off on the other survey's until the new Nintendo year which begins on July 1 and ends on June 30.  That way I can guarantee myself platinum status for another year or two.  I have plenty of registrations any way.  I think I'm only missing a couple of Pokemon DS titles and a dozen or so VC/WW titles.

BTW, the only games that currently count are:
Wii Games
Animal Crossing: City Folk
Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree
Endless Ocean
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Link's Crossbow Training
Mario Kart Wii
Mario Party 8
Mario Strikers Charged
Mario Super Sluggers
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Pokemon Battle Revolution
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Paper Mario
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Wario Land: Shake It!
WarioWare: Smooth Moves
Wii Fit
Wii Music
Wii Play

Wii Shop Channel games and Wii Channels
Alien Crush Returns
Art Style: Cubello
Art Style: Rotohex
Big Kahuna Party
Boingz
Boogerman: A Pick and Flick Adventure
Brain Challenge
Bruiser and Scratch
Digital Champ Battle Boxing
Earthworm Jim
Enduro Racer
Forgotten Worlds
Gradius II Gofer No Yabou
Hockey Allstar Shootout
Home Sweet Home
Mega Man 3
Metal Slug 2
Pit Crew Panic!
Secret of Mana
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Space Harrier
Space Invaders Get Even
Space Invaders: The Original Game
Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition
Strong Bad Episode 3: Baddest of the Bands
Strong Bad Episode 4: Dangeresque 3
Strong Bad Episode 5: 8-bit is Enough
Sudoku Challenge!
Target Toss Pro: Bags
Tetris Party
The Incredible Maze
World of Goo
Yummy Yummy Cooking Jam

Nintendo DS Games
Advance Wars: Days of Ruin
Animal Crossing: Wild World
Big Brain Academy
Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day
Brain Age 2: More Training in Minutes a Day
Clubhouse Games
Crosswords DS
Diddy Kong Racing
Electroplankton
Elite Beat Agents
Flash Focus: Vision Training in Minutes a Day
Hotel Dusk: Room 215
Kirby Super Star Ultra
Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Mario Kart DS
Mario Party DS
Master of Illusion
Mystery Case Files: MillionHeir
New Super Mario Bros.
Nintendogs: Chihuahua and Friends
Nintendogs: Dalmatian and Friends
Nintendogs: Labrador Retriever and Friends
Nintendogs: Miniature Dachshund and Friends
Personal Trainer: Cooking
Planet Puzzle League
Pokemon Diamond
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness
Pokemon Pearl
Pokemon Ranger
Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia
Professor Layton and the Curious Village
Super Mario 64 DS
Tetris DS
Yoshi's Island DS

I'm impressed with that list as Nintendo could have easily only allowed new games published with Club Nintendo slips like in Japan.

What about the games that are on that list, but your copy was bought long before CN launched in the US?

Eh. Sounds great, but I can't see myself getting into it. I try to avoid that sort of stuff, if someone can get into it and mess things up.

I don't think it matters when the games were purchased.

I doesn't matter when you registered the games as long as it's before the survey expires.  For example, I registered SM64 DS and Nintendo.com when it launched, but someone who registered it today on Club Nintendo and did the same survey would get the same number of coins.  I used the same email for CN that I'd used on Nintendo.com so my registrations transferred if they were on the above list.

I gave away all my imported Japanese Club Nintendo registrations, but now I'm curious if they'd work here.  I doubt it.

I checked and I have all the Wii games registered and am only missing Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness and Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia DS.  I have no plans to get them or the dozen or so VC/WW games I'm missing.  I actually have 100+ VC/WW titles, but it appears Nintendo is only allowing new ones to count, and most of those don't have surveys yet.

I kind of wish GameStop hadn't talked me into getting a used copy of SM64DS. (At least it came with its manual, or as I like to call it, Uction book)
I've registered 10 games so far.  5 DS and 5 Wii.

How do you do the intend to buy system?  Is it even working yet?

Why do they take Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition but not any of the other versions of SFII on VC (like the one I own)?

They're automatically registered if you used the same email for Club Nintendo as you did from Nintendo.com and had previously linked you Nintendo.com account to your Wii.

Registration of games existed in the States for a while, I registered Mario Party 5 as my last one. I got those buttons saying Mario for President and Bowser and stuff. Nothing good, though. The code has been the same, REGISTER YOUR GAMES, Pin # on back. Systems, you use the bar-code. That was tough with my GameCube.

Not sure. I said that it worked in the past before Club Nintendo came here.

Its back up. After registering all of my DS games, I have a gold membership and have 310 coins. My Wii games are probably gonna put me higher up.
