Title: The Argument Topic
Post by: Glorb on February 06, 2007, 09:05:16 PM
Someone once said, "Debate is the soul of brevity", or something vaguely along those lines. So, in the spirit of whoever said that, I've started this topic. It's simple: Someone makes a statement on something, and then someone else argues with or against that point. It's like a debate club, basically. Things like that Wii's innovativeness and awesomitude or the PS3's terriblicity should be avoided, since they're really too opinionated and done to death.

So basically that quote said "arguments are short"?

Little kids should not be allowed to use the internet.

Go.

Agree. Sex offenders and all kinds of people are out there, waiting for little kids to get in contact with them.

So, do I say something now?

Agreed. Younger children are easier to coax into giving information.

More?

You can't agree! This is The Argument Topic.

Hey, MEGAߥTE, just because it's The Argument Topic doesn't mean every post has to disagree with the post immediately before it.

Why don't they just give every sex offender the death penalty? That would:
1. Probably scare a big portion of sex offenders into not raping little kids, and
2. Help with the overpopulation problem.

Cruel, though I have to agree.

Hey, MEGAߥTE, just because it's The Argument Topic doesn't mean every post has to disagree with the post immediately before it.

Well somebody's joke detector is broken.  Unless you're arguing with me because it's the argument topic.  In which case, carry on...

No, MB. After re-reading your post, you seriously didn't put enough effort into conveying that it was not intended to be taken seriously.

Yes, I did.  I used bold.  Bold.

This topic certainly lives up to it's name.

Yay! I caused civil unrest. Anyway, back to the children/Interwebnet issue. I think little kids should not be allowed to use the Internet because they're annoying. My sister constantly automatically opens spam email and other crap.

I think this is a bad idea.  It's a breeding ground for a flame war.

I thought MEGABYTE emphasized fine. I knew he was joking, and I was going to argue with Eclipsed Moon because his would have been the post above mine. I'm on the same page :)

Errr.. I mean... MEGABYTE you should be more... clear on your sarcasm.

Paper Luigi is not a "sir."  He is younger than Lizard Dude which subsequently makes him a child. And therefore, he should not be allowed access to the internet.
Title: Re: The Argument Topic

But, by your definition, I am also a child, and am not only allowed to access the Internet, I am required to do so. Actually, by your definition, you are also a child.

NEW ARGUMENT: I think that the whole idea of selling a "two-week trial" for World of Warcraft is ridiculous. Isn't the point of a trial "try before you buy"?
Title: Re: The Argument Topic

Good point.. if they wanted people to "try before they buy", they could have just sent it out to every house in America, much in the same way that AOL sends out disks every time they make some miniscule update to their system.

Your definition of a child is very.....odd. Last time I checked, 17 was far past the age of 10. Unless of course, you were joking.

EDIT: I know it says 16 on my profile, but I'll be 17 in a few weeks.

The $1.99 trials in stores are 14-day trials. Meanwhile, you can download (https://signup.worldofwarcraft.com/trial/index.htm) a 10-day trial for free. I guess the cost is for the CD? And Blizzard is cheaper than AOL?
Title: Re: The Argument Topic
Post by: PaperLuigi on February 07, 2007, 11:05:55 PM
Sounds good to me. As long as the price for the trial does not proceed $10.00, I'd try it out.

What part of reply #25 do you disagree with?
Title: Re: The Argument Topic
Post by: Glorb on February 08, 2007, 09:13:24 AM
Paying any amount of money for a trial is ridiculous. I've seen free two-month trials given away in PC Gamer. But I hate PCG and MMOs, so I don't have too much of an opinion on this. Except that trials should be free.

Exactly.  Unfortunately, some folks are too cheap to even pay 85 cents for a cheeseburger. so they steal it.  Dirty, stinking cheapskates.

New argument: Computer idiots should be banned from owning computers. Why? After looking at this (http://www.tech-forums.net/showthread.php?threadid=68275&perpage=15&pagenumber=1), watching 2 forums collapse due to a ton of n00bs going around spamming the places, and watching people in my school randomly hitting keys on their keyboards when their computers freeze, I starting thinking, "Computer idiots should be banned from owning a computer."
Title: Re: The Argument Topic
Post by: MaxVance on February 24, 2007, 07:35:37 PM
But if they never own or use one, then they can't learn.
Title: Re: The Argument Topic

I sorta Agree with you, Max, I bet when CTOAN first used a computer he said: "Oh! I have a typo on my book report! I need some whiteout!" *puts whiteout on the screen* In other words: We are all n00bs when we try something new, and to fix that, we have to learn, not just have the privilege taken away from you. People aren't experts at everything, just at their own special hobbies and goals.

When I first used a computer, I was three. Even then I knew not to put white out on the screen.

Ha!  Exactly how Weird Al's "All About The Pentiums" goes...

"You gotta be the dumbest newbie I've ever seen.  You've got white-out all over your screen.  You think your Commodore 64 is really neato.  What kind of chip you got in there, a Dorito?"

Title: Re: The Argument Topic

I'd say Doritos are better for data storage.
