That was actually pretty funny. Obama's got good delivery.

Weegee: you don't even live here.

Besides, chances are he can at least put his own socks on.

Weegee's just trolling. He's spoken positively of Obama (at least regarding the health care overhaul) in other threads.

What's your problem, Canadian?

Kidding. I see him as being completely average in presidential prowess.

As for the speech, Obama's delivery was good, but I wonder if he actually conceived a single word of the routine himself.

Weegee you don't even know what a president is, gtfo off my God given American Internet and go eat some pizza ham.

Also why is Obama's tie talking in panel #1? I would also accept that it's his gut.
Title: Re: Obama Stand-up
Post by: Weegee on May 03, 2010, 07:28:18 PM
Why is the last panel a picture of Bill Clinton?

That joke has become such common knowledge that I assumed it would be perceived as a reference to the joke, but whatevs.

Man, I love so much that we have a president with a sense of humor.

I thought it was funny how Seth Myers talked in a C-SPAN interview about what a great American tradition it is to have an event where comedians get up and make fun of the president to his face, and then proceeded to only make fun of the president's opponents.

Obama's routine was great, though. Hell, he should write SNL. Or whoever wrote his speech should.

I liked The Adjustment Bureau, though.

Man, I love so much that we have a president with a sense of humor.

The only president without a sense of humor was Richard Nixon.

Don't credit all of Obama's awesome jokes to the writers; the man can deliver.

It's a shame he can't deliver on his campaign promises. :(

If Obama resigned and replaced Seth Myers as head writer of SNL, I think that would make everyone happy.

And don't miss Conan's followup (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIgSgLFwEMs). He seems nervous (understandably) but the material is sick.

The earliest recorded documentation of that sense of the word is in the 1983 UNC-CH Campus Slang by the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

You leave Jay Leno ALONE.

If we're going to talk about humorous moments at the White House Correspondent's Dinner, someone's going to have to bring up Stephen Colbert's performance in 2006.

What's going to happen next year?

Imagine Clinton doing one of these.

Imagine Cruz doing one of these.

Well, they both

-sound alike
-recite jokes poorly
-are not currently running for president

So you never know.

Wow! Nothing says 'hot comedy roast' like having a cardinal sit next to you.

Neither approaches President Obama but Hillary was passable (probably just from speaking skill, not necessarily comedy chops). Donald started okay but the second half was significantly worse.

They're both very good at taking jokes. The same cannot be said of Rudy Giuliani.

After her performance there, I'm definitely more okay with Hillary doing eight of these than I thought I would be.

Trump's Michelle-Melania joke was really good, and the little "it's not her fault! boy am i in trouble!" bit afterward is probably the most human he's seemed all year. His delivery was pretty lousy overall, though; he's not very good at reading. And it definitely got pretty uncomfortable around the halfway point where it went from "slightly edgy political roast" to "Breitbart comment section" and even starting to border on "personal manifesto written by Charlie Sheen" and he started getting booed by a room full of Republican priests.

(Interesting sidenote: this thing has happened pretty much every election for the past few decades, but Bush and Kerry were not invited to the 2004 dinner because the foundation felt that election was too divisive (or it might've been because Kerry was a pro-choice Catholic))

Definitely interesting how Trump seemed to take this one so much better than he took Obama's jokes in 2012. Is it because he knew it was going to be a roast going into it? because he's still technically Hillary's equal? because he got to go first? did his handlers tell him to look happy (doubt it; they clearly don't have that much control over him at this point)? because Hillary's white?
