Author Topic: The Gameboy DS?  (Read 7600 times)

So, what has recently come to the fore is a question of classification.

The newest Nintendo handheld system is officially named the Nintendo DS.  My sister calls it the GameBoy DS.  We have since come into an argument where both sides have pretty sufficient evidence.  We are at an impasse and need help deciding once and for all what the name of the system is.

This is meant to be lighthearted fun, but still... we want an answer.  Let's see what we can come up with, alright?
Kinopio is the ultimate video game character! Who else can drive a kart, host parties, play tennis, give good advice and items, and is almost always happy??

The name is Nintendo DS. Nintendo has specifically stated that it is not part of the Game Boy line. Welcome to 2005.
That was a joke.

The official name is Nintendo DS.

It's its own thing. When it came out, Nintendo called it the "third pillar", the other two pillars being the GCN and GBA. Since it was its own pillar, the DS is definitely not part of the Game Boy line.

Hope this helps you win an argument.

I used to think it was a Game Boy myself. I don't think I knew it wasn't really a Game Boy until I read about it on here.

I'd somewhat enjoy if the DS played GB/GBC games, though.

But yeah, it's its own thing.

Maybe this is just me, but I think that Nintendo should win some kind of architectural award for being able to balance themselves on two pillars for so long.

Also, I've probably said this before, but why is (or, at least at its "beginning", was) so much of the DS software self-referential? It's really dumb, to be honest; it's not like there were a bunch of Game Boy Color games like Mario: Giga Bowser Chaos or The Legend of Zelda: Ganon's Big Crash. How was it unoffically decided that almost every game had to have some sort of "DS" reference?

The Devs thought they were being clever. (They were.)
Also it's just about the same as Super This and That or Whatever 64.
That was a joke.
