I didn't notice that until you pointed it out.  Just read it as:

1. Mario nags Peach for bacon
2. Peach hits him with the frying pan
3. A speck of boiling hot bacon grease lands on Peach's face, melting away the pretty exterior and revealing Weegee.

That way, it'll still make sense (as much sense as this story ever will, anyway).
