Post by: crosswinds on January 28, 2010, 04:45:51 PM
Hello!

Trying to get passed the world 8-1 of super mario bros 3 on GBA!

It says here on the game-help "8-1
Fly straight up from the start, and hit the P-Switch. Go down to find lots of silver coins! "

But i really cant find the necessery "runway"space to do that, what am i doing wrong here? :S

Thanks..

Hitting the switch isn't a requirement to pass the level, and it's nearly impossible to reach without a P-Wing.

Nearly impossible? Don't listen to WeeGee, who is apprently a GIANT N00B. You're correct that there isn't enough space, but run back and forth on it a few times and you'll be able to take off. You can turn and resume a run faster than the P-guage empties.

I never got the hang of running fast enough with limited space anyway. If you have a P-Wing or Jugem's Cloud, use it. Otherwise, good luck. Why is it the flying levels of Mario games are always so difficult?

Anyone who made to 8-1 should be able to fly using the starting platform.

Unless they used the warp zones like most people.

*thinks* oh right, just about every warp whistle does require gathering enough speed in a limited space. But some people would know which stages have the whistles beforehand and go in with P-Wings. Maybe.

One of these days I should beat Worlds 5, 6, and 7 without cheating.

You can't warp to 8-1.

Do you really get any P-wings before you can get the whistles?
I'm talking NES here.
I'm pretty sure you can warp to 8-1, LD.

You can't warp to 8-1. You have to go through boats and tanks and maybe some assorted bridge levels and stuff before you get to an actual numbered stage.

8-tank, 8-1, same to me. But thanks for reminding me that the tank stages come before 8-1. I knew there was some point of World 8 that seemed easy. That and the bridge of hands.

As for whether you get P-Wings before you get the whistles... didn't I routinely get those at the mushroom houses? Oh wait, maybe I got them through the card game. Yeah. I was one of those people who had to make sure every moving thing was gone from the board before I finished off the boss for a world.

You can visit 1-4 to unlock the White Mushroom House for a P-Wing before getting any whistle in World 1.

P-Wings:

1-4 (44 coins)
1-Castle
3-8 (44 coins?)
4-Hammer Bro
4-Castle
5-Hammer Bro
5-5 (28 coins)
6-Castle
7-2 (46 coins, requires Frog Suit and incredible luck)
7-Piranha Plant
(x28 after you beat the NES version)

Plus, the Hand Traps all give you a Super Leaf.
