Awesome!  It may have been more awesome if they had started in the city with some better music then jumped down a warp pipe that changed the music and scene to a SMB style.

If they're going to be doing all those wall kicks, shouldn't the blocks be SM64-style?

Not neccesarily. Mario could wall kick in special circumstances in SMB and SMB3...
