Title: New Super Mario Bros. information
Post by: MEGAߥTE on May 17, 2005, 01:56:18 PM
Pics will be posted later.

From Nintendo:

The first new 2-D Marioâ„¢ platformer since Super Mario World® has arrived. Boasting incredible 3-D graphics to accompany classic 2-D game play, this fast-paced adventure will have Mario fans cheering as they make their way over fields, under water, through castles and into the air. New and familiar enemies are everywhere, not to mention mind-blowing challenges made possible by the dual screens of the Nintendo DS. Not only that, but players can link wirelessly with a friend to play as Mario and Luigi in multiplayer mode.

I hope to see pics soon, but I have to pack for E3 now.  Maybe it will be viewable or playable there.  (New)SMB is now #2 on my DS most wanted list thanks to the annoucement of M&L2.  Those of you who say the preshow are so lucky, but I guess I am too since I will be at E3 and most Fungi Forum members won't.

Wow, so many great games coming to the DS! I'm still looking more foward to M&L2, but I want this game, too!

There's new enemies this time?  Woah, I wonder what they'll be?  It would be cool to see Goombas that try to jump on your head or Lakitus that shoot missiles.  Or something.

"New" video-footage: http://www.youtube.com/w/New-Super-Mario-Bros?v=ZuqFHNudl-E&search=nintendo

Also, Nintendo confirmed on a press conference that New Super Mario Bros. will release in May.

Yes, but it wasn't seen before, was it? ;)
And because there are hardly any video footages of this title I just gave it a go.

Oh, it was.  A lot of stuff like this gets posted in the chatroom but doesn't make it here.  I'm not sure why this video suddenly got popular online because it really has been out for a good while.

Then someone should tell me all this links, I am starving for NSMB-footage :)

I only saw a direct-feed movie of the Gumba battle before. Every motioning picture I saw before were the trailers. Well, this game definitley looks promising. Lucky ones who got to play it at E3 2005.

Btw. Was the fact that the Mario Bros. can jump into Koopa shells ever mentioned on this board?

Oh. My. GOSH.

This is looking cooler and cooler all the time. Once again this game looks to me like it will even outdo Super Princess Peach (which I now have) in utter awesomeness.

EDIT: Stupid me, I forgot to ask this question. Is it known yet if you need only one game card for 2-player, or do you need one for each system?
Title: Re: New Super Mario Bros. information

I'll bet you need one for each DS, considering the size of the main game. However, Nintendo could still suprise us....

One thing: If the orignial SMB theme or some type of remix isn't used on the overworld levels (or at least some), I'll be disappointed. Nintendo can't go wrong with the original SMB theme.

It would be nice to hear the original theme, but I would also like to hear some new Mario music. I hope the music in the castles is as good as the castle music in Super Princess Peach....

I'm sure the SMB theme will be somewhere in the game. Somewhere.
Title: Re: New Super Mario Bros. information

There was some new info in the latest Nintendo Power (203). Things like 80+ worlds, world Map, description of each of the 8 worlds, minigame info and some new pics. Does anyone have a scan of these pages?
As for the classic Mario theme. It'll probably be in the game, but perhaps not in a level. They may do something like they did in Mario 64, where the theme was at the beginning and littered throughout small portions of the game. While I love the Mario Theme, I want newer themes like the one we hear in the promo vids. It's different but it still feels "Mario" which is great.
And BTW, Hi. I'm new to the board. Mario Forever!
Title: Re: New Super Mario Bros. information
Post by: MaxVance on March 19, 2006, 06:28:14 PM
80 WORLDS??? Do you mean individual levels, or actual worlds with several levels in them?
Title: Re: New Super Mario Bros. information
Post by: Suzaku on March 19, 2006, 07:19:01 PM
No, 80 Levels, sorry. Man, 80 worlds would just be ridiculous (not that I'd complain)
There are 8 worlds in all (probably not counting secret worlds, if any). According to NP, the themes are Plains, Desert, Tropical Island, Forest, ice, Mountain, Sky, Bowser's Hideout. The level order seems very Mario 3 to me, though
NP also said that levels will have multiple exits (a la Mario World) and have Mario 64-esque missions.
Also, all the Mario 64 Minigames are included and some have been redone with multiplayer modes!
This is sounding like a kick-tush Mario game.
@ smfan - Apologies.

The SM64DS mini games, you mean? Cool, cool. But, we already have those... New mini games of that quality would be appreciated.

Dude! Adofjas;ldkfjlaksjdf!!! MUST... GET... THIS... GAME!!

And no offense, Suzaku, but you might want to edit the third-to-last word in your last post, or the moderators might do it instead. The rules here are stricter than on some other boards.

EDIT: Oh, and welcome to TMK. :)
Title: Re: New Super Mario Bros. information
Post by: Suzaku on March 19, 2006, 08:24:22 PM
Yeah, it'd be nice if they were new minigames, but whatever, nobody's getting this game for the Minigames. We're getting it for the old-school, hardcore mario gameplay!! Less than a month and a half left!
@smfan1085 - I edited my earlier post. Apologies. I'll go read the rules to make sure I don't do anything else dumb ^^

Yeah, but who knows... Nintendo does some unexpected things from time to time... the mini games may be new to match the new goodness of the game itself!
Title: Re: New Super Mario Bros. information
Post by: smfan1085 on March 20, 2006, 10:18:33 PM
Here are some things of interest that I found in the screenshots (I hope these aren't considered spoilers of any type):

-The seadragon from SM64DS (the one you ride on)
-The giant eel from SM64DS (only he's even more giant)
-The striped bugs or spiders from SM64DS
-Bowser Jr.
-A level that looks just like World 1-1 from SMB
-A pipe maze with Venus Fire Traps
-Some mini-game or strange room that reminds me of Mario Bros., but has Goombas

Also, I finally realized what that "riding in a shell" stuff was all about! That is really amazing!

It seems, judging by the words on those scanned pages, that it will have single-card multiplayer, but it isn't clear whether there are more options available for multiplayer if two cards are used (this seems likely, though).

I've always and still have a weird fear for those giant monsters, even the Dorrie dino-creature in SM64(DS?), I mean they were just so big and creepy, even on a DS they seemed creepy, but when things are limited down to 2D I don't think I'd be half as scared, just because 2D just doesn't give that real-feel like 3D, but then again, the graphics are 3D, so it might still creep me out, but I'm not sure. I'm getting this either way.

I got April's NP from Borders. No Wifi, no 2-player game bosses, (but yes, 2-player games), no use of the microphone, no difference between Mario & Luigi's abilities, and it looks like when Mario's enormous, it's a little like the Super Bowser portion of PMTTYD--when you walk into blocks, they immediately crush. There'sd also a green ? block in a boo-infested level... It might be the lighting.

I've just found out something about this game that I've never heard before. Forgive me if it's already widely known.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Super_Mario_Bros. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Super_Mario_Bros.)
"According to Nintendo Power issue #202, the Koopalings will also be in this game, making it the first game to feature all eight of Bowser's children; Super Mario Sunshine included Iggy briefly in FLUDD's scan. However, Yoshi will not appear, at least in standard gameplay, as he wouldn't fit with the classic Super Mario Bros. formula."

THE KOOPALINGS ARE GOING TO BE IN THIS GAME??? That's one of the biggest reasons now why I want to get it.
Title: Re: New Super Mario Bros. information

Maybe, instead of the Bowser fakes, they'll put in the eight Koopalings instead! That would make it my fave Mario adventure game EVER. *Starts drooling, stops, puts bucket underneath, and resumes drooling*
Title: Re: New Super Mario Bros. information
Post by: BP on April 13, 2006, 03:25:48 AM
Ah,-ha-ha! That's clever! And with technological graphics they could show the "Bowser" shrink back into the Koopaling it really is, even if it falls in the lava. Be a little strange to see Bowser shrink into Wendy, though...
Title: Re: New Super Mario Bros. information
Post by: Ultima Shadow on April 13, 2006, 05:53:57 AM
No, as actual bosses in their own rights. Now that would be awesome. Still, that idea would be cool as well, except maybe all of the fakes could have their own attacks.

btw, if everyone's annoyed at Bowser Jr, imagine how poor Bowser feels. To quote a saying- "You can choose your friends, but you can't choose your family." XD
Title: Re: New Super Mario Bros. information

Odd that Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings are going to be in the same game.
Title: Re: New Super Mario Bros. information
Post by: Otaku1990 on April 14, 2006, 06:01:27 AM
I dont't believe in the whole Koopaling-story. I think there was a translation-mistake with Koopa Jr. changing to the Koopa Kids.
We haven't seen a picture of the Koopalings, so I doubt their existence in NSMB.
Title: Re: New Super Mario Bros. information
Post by: smfan1085 on April 14, 2006, 09:37:15 PM
But maybe there aren't any pictures of the Koopalings because the actual revealing of the 3D Koopaling models is being saved for the players of the game itself.

EDIT: Oh, wait a minute...

http://www.thehotfix.net/mario/mario5.html (http://www.thehotfix.net/mario/mario5.html)

^ Look at the last paragraph there.

It doesn't look like the Koopalings will be level bosses after all, if what that says is true. Maybe at least they'll be in a mini-game or something. Or maybe they'll all be in the last level...?

I dont't believe in the whole Koopaling-story. I think there was a translation-mistake with Koopa Jr. changing to the Koopa Kids.
We haven't seen a picture of the Koopalings, so I doubt their existence in NSMB.

Correct, Nintendo Power stated that there are not Koopa Kids in NSMB.

Man, that's too bad. I wanted to see them in 3D... We've seen Bowser Jr. in 3D before. Too much.

Suzaky, where'd you see the new video? When I pull up the site, there is only 1 video on there, and I've already seen it a couple times.

Definitely looking cool, the launch date is May 15 by the way ( I didn't see it posted here).  My only gripe is that once again Luigi is snuffed into a barely used 2 player mode, tis a shame.

I think he will, because that big NP article seemed to be hinting that he would. The thing is, Petey has been in SO many games now that it really is starting to get annoying, and now that I know that the Koopalings won't be in the game but Bowser Jr., Petey, and possibly other overused newer bosses will be, I must say I'm very disappointed as far as the game's bosses are concerned. Still, though, I'm really excited about the game; all other aspects of it look really, really good.

Title: could they have borrowed a little from Sonic?
Post by: Steven77571 on May 05, 2006, 12:51:45 PM
The music in the game sounds better than ever. I saw the video at Nintendo's NSMB page, and it got me wondering if someone got the rope-swinging, wall-climbing idea from the Sonic & Knuckles game for the old Sega Genesis. I used to play that game all the time when I was younger.

What do you mean he'll "proboly" only be in SMS?? He's been in M&L:PiT, Mario Power Tennis, at least one Mario Golf, Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, (correct me if I'm wrong, but) Super Mario Strikers, and too many more. maxvince is proboly right.

Okay, thanks Luigison!

I'm so excited now that it will be out in approximately nine days from now... But the only bad part is that Nintendo Power Magazine has laid out a lot of spoilers. In case nobody else has read the latest issue yet, I recommend you skip the "New Super Mario Bros. Information" section. It explains pretty much all of the new and secret items and tells about all the boss battles, etc. Most of you would probably rather find out all of the items on your own, I would guess.

Anyway, yeah, this looks very good. Although my brother says it will go down the drain, and that all it is, just another pathetic Nintendo remake. Of course it's a whole new game, but he's taking in bad ideas mainly from Nintendo's mistakes of remaking so many games instead of making all-new ones.(I.E. Zelda games, SM64DS, SMA, etc.)

Has anybody else noticed Nintendo's constant mistakes in the past few years? I think this is why many people are turning away from Nintendo... In MPH, they spoiled so much in articles(mainly in NP), and now they're doing the same with NSMB and more soon-to-be-released games. I hope they don't do the same with ZTP... I know I can just not read them, but where's the fun in that? XP If somebody could just name all of Nintendo's mistakes, then have the Nintendo companies actually READ their letters, they could stop making these horrible mistakes.

Eh, but enough of my annoying rants. NSMB looks pretty good, so I'll have to save up some money.

Review from IGN.

9.5. The review really makes NSMB sound great. Also, for those of you who are afraid of Nintendo Power style spoilers, there aren't any in this if you've been following this thread and it's links.

I wonder if that was you witnessing Bowser dying or if he was actually a Dry Bones... like in the original where you could see Bowser's true form if you fireblalled him to death, only now you see his true form regardless. I wonder...
I'm a bit disappointed that the ax has been replaced by a button...

That part with Bowser apparently burning to a skeleton really freaked me out when I first saw it... it reminded me of Itchy and Scratchy. 0_o But I suppose it might not really matter if it isn't the real Bowser. Otherwise it would be... really weird... if Bowser had that happen to him and then come back later as if nothing happened.

Here's a quote from the Wikipedia article:

"IGN released footage on May 4th that showed a boss battle between Mario and Bowser. The concept was basically the same as Super Mario Bros' boss battles and the music was a rearrangement of the Super Mario Brothers 3 boss music. Another point of note was the fact that when Bowser was defeated, he writhed in the lava below him, losing his skin the second time he surfaced. It has been speculated that since the Bowsers in worlds 1-7 of Super Mario Bros. are fake, this may not be the real Bowser either; and that he may return as a "Dry Bones" variant Bowser later in the game."

Sorry to double-post, but I found new info about this game!

[Edit: Oh, gosh, I'm stupid. That video was REALLY old news.]

Someone on GameFAQs posted the names of the bosses in the game, right out of the strategy guide!

SPOILER WARNING!

"Bowser Jr. (Every single mini castle)

Bowser (W1)

Mummipokey (W2)

Cheepskipper (W3)

Mega Goomba (W4)

Petey Piranha (W5)

Monty Tank (W6)

Lakithunder (W7)

Skeletal Bowser (W8)

Bowser Jr. + Ressurrected Bowser (W8)"

Well, I guess that answers anyone's questions about the skeleton Bowser. I don't know if that really bothers me that much anymore. After all, at least it's not mindless, gruesome cartoon violence like Itchy and Scratchy is. And Bowser must be alive at the end of the game, anyway.

I guess Bowser really does die at the end of each game. Only to be resurrected again for the next outing. He must have some sort of monopoly on the 1-up mushroom market.

Perhaps the Bower-battles at each castle are a throwback to the original SMB. And when you lose a life, you hear an updated version of the music that plays when you die in the original SMB. What I'd like to see are screenshots from Worlds 4, 6, 7 and 8. One more thing, have you seen this big giant, purple pirinah that swims around in one of the underwater
levels?

I don't see how you can avoid that thing.

Could be an end-of-level boss, so you have to fireball it a set amount of times. Or, if it just passes, hide behind a pipe or something. :\
