Title: The Rise of the Mushroom Kingdom
Post by: n/a on January 09, 2004, 08:46:28 PM
K, maybe some of you have seen this before, i dunno, but i just saw it and find it very... uh... sadly funny.... or funnily sad... whatever... see for yourself...

There's 2 parts, at various sites. Here's the flashplayer ones:

http://www.flashplayer.com/animation/mushroomkingdom.html
and...
logically...

ehhhhh. I'm not too big a fan of sprite movies, (though I have made some).

The movie itself is rather well done in terms of sprite-animation, custom sprites, music, etc.  But I didn't like it because of the story.

I really can't stand stories that put adult things into a Mario setting. Blood, violence, death...they just dont belong in this family-friendly franchise.  It's not the right attitude.

I''m back, baby! Well, kinda...

I agree, to an extent.

I think Mario is capable of many things; sure, not overgory Mortal Kombat-esque scenarios, but more mature... how do I put this... not "themes," because the themes are fine... uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

I can imagine, if Luigi passed away, sadness for such a thing, sympathy for Mario, and resentment towards the cause being displayed in Mario's world; I think emotionally and morally mature realms are possible without touching the surface of what you just mentioned.

I could ramble on, but... I shan't.

*****************************

Mario''s adventure is over for now, but,

Mario''s dream lives forever...

Dream on, Mario... dream on.

OH!

The Rise of the Mushroom Kingdom!

I saw both movies long before this post ever occured, and I cried like hell at each sad scene!! In fact, I'll even give out the link to the mother website i.e. the website of the guy who made those movies!!

Here it is: The Video Game Director's Cuts

Warning: This website requires Macromedia's FlashPlayer, and contains material and links which is not suitable for young children...

Hmmm, you know what? I thought about it and I just removed the direct link to the website...

If you still wish to see this site, I think you should find it yourself via some search engine. After all, I provided the name...

In the beginning of part two, the koopaling warning bowser was blown up and sent flying into the screen and cracked it. In the end of M&L:SS bowser's castle was blow up and he was flown into the screen and cracked it in a similar fasion. Very Similar.

Watch the Mack daddy mario movies on that sight, their hilarious.

Or is it?... *shifts eyes supiciously*

I saw those movies, too, before this topic came up, in October. I also saw all of the Mack Daddy Mario movies, and the Mack Daddy Luigi one, in which Luigi swears at Mario saying "That no good s-o-b. Always got to the f-ing center of attention, huh? Well it's my turn to shine!" Then he pulls out a radio and starts dancing. After a while his pants falls down and he covers himself. Then Mario comes over and says, "Mama should have named him 'Lu-Weenie'."

I told you I would shoot, but you didn`t believe me! WHY DIDN`T YOU BELIEVE ME?!!

A 'sprite', in computer language, is a programmed symbol or animation that represents the video game character in any 8-bit to 16 or 32-bit game...

For example, let's assume your playing Super Mario Bros. 3: Super Mario Advance 4, the Mario character you're playing with is a 'sprite'!

Some people use sprites to make comics or Flash animation because it is much easier than drawing, and it is more graphically accurate...

Most people do not make original sprites, they rip them off from the games and use them as they are or modify them. If you want some sprites, try the Shyguy Kingdom. This site is the biggest source for sprites on the internet!!

Personally, the movies had too much inappropriate gore in them. Yoshis tearing koopas in half isn't the Yoshi I grew up knowing, and it will never be. THis is why I like the other Mario Sprite Flash Movie better. It gets by without the gore and does an even better job of doing so that this.

All in all, it was still pretty good.

Hey, people!!

Look at what I found out...

It seems the magazine - Game Informer - had, and without permission, made a cameo of Part 1 of The Rise of the Mushroom Kingdom in one of their latest issues...

It is actually just one screenshot of the movie (where the first Bullet Bill was about to land on Mario), and this screenshot is slightly modified for their own purposes...

You can find it here, at the bottom right under "Survivor: Mushroom Kingdom"...

How pathetic can video game reporters get!?

First of July, huh!  Today's the 13th and it still isn't out.  Get with the program people!

By the way, Rise 1 and 2 were awesome, especially when the fire Pirahna was brought out, and it accidentally shot some koopas out of their shells, allowing the Toads to squash them, then the Fire Plant went back insede the pipe, and the goombas ran away too.

Also, when Luigi discovered wart was behind the killing, I was like, "How can that be?  Wart is from the dream world!"

Mario has fused with the N-force!

"The Thwart of Wart" was the working title for Part 3. When the creator noted that "Part 3" was going to take a long while, he decided to split the whole production into two separate parts: Part 3 and Part 4. So now Part 4 is called "The Thwart of Wart." See what I mean?

I'd expect Randy of all people to see how terribly wrong he is in that shot. Mario's hammer is parallel to the ground, BEHIND HIM! That type of hammer goes directly above the head, handle perpendicular to the ground, and then comes down in front of him. At most, the hammer can go back to about a 95 degree angle, but the position it's in is just wrong. I still have hope that it's the kind from PM because of the wooden head, all of the hammers from Donkey Kong having black ones.

Let me away from this boulder!

Excuse me, Popple...

I believe that the hammer is not from either game you mentioned...

This hammer actually comes from a much older game called Super Mario World!!

How?

You obviously never played it or it must have been a long while...

Let me explain...

After Mario defeats Lemmy Koopa of Castle #3, how does Mario destroy the castle? With a hammer, of course!! Ask anyone about it...

And the Mario sprite in the screenshot you see is one of the exact sprites where you see Mario using the hammer in Super Mario World!!

Easter Eggs

More infomation: http://www.videogamedc.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=24805&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=25

1. The title screen randomly switches from night to sunrise. Try playing it a few times to see them both. (Thanks to Darren Driver)

2. Scattered all throughout the "Return to Koopa Cemetery" scene are tombstones with the names of many of my forum members.  Are you on one?

3. In the "The Princess' Mission" scene, look for a piece of paper floating by. You'll have to pause the movie and zoom in to read what it says.

4. In the "Hidden Temple" scene, there are signs scattered throughout the desert. Again, zoom in to read them.

5. Donkey Kong and a Dr. Mario Virus are hidden in the columns of the "Hidden Temple" scene, after Mario slides down between the walls. (Right before he drops down there's some writing on the right side of the wall as well.)

6. In the "Final Battle" scene, right after Wart crashes through the window and gets stuck in the Vegetable Generator tube, pay attention to what's coming out of the left tube. (A tribute to my very  first VG flash) You will most likely have to freeze frame it to see the secret.

7. Zoom on the Dog in the finale scene, in Toad Village. It's Poochy, having some nice dreams about Yoshi's Island! Even his tail is wagging.

8. When wart's going up the castle there is a backward sign too!

I personally didn't notice any of the easter eggs or glitches, so I guess that's good for VGDC.

I also second nintendoexpert; C'mon man, we're not second graders here! We don't need no explosive flatulence issues here!

I thougt it was good and also funny.  Good ending.  Loved the night sky. Fragmented post.

Well, I just love the whole ROTMK series. and about the whole cape thimg, perhaps for safety Luigi closed it? And if there's any mistakes with the hammer, well, I've seen Mario do other impossible things in that too. and with Wart, lets not forget his vegetable aversion, Randy just chose to advance the idea a little with the farting to get around. Besides, in the original ROTMK Mario was doing exercises by a castle, a butterfly came by, he farted, then the butterfly dropped.

I just watched Rise of the Mushroom Kingdom, and I thought it was excellently put together.  Those of you who complain about Mario being in adult situations, its a good change and don't knock it, because although everyone loves the family-friendly Mario, you know if these were real life situations, you wouldn't be saying "Oh Darn, a goomba is eating me"
