Title: Amazing Unexperiences
Post by: Watoad on October 21, 2005, 12:17:01 PM
My comment about Top Gun in Doom: The Movie gave me the idea to start a topic about amazing things that people here haven't done. Think about things generally considered to be common experience in (y)our society and culture that you haven't experienced yourself. For example, if you, say, have never eaten at McDonald's, have never waved Hi to a mailman, or have never used a public restroom, then you should definitely mention those things here. Feel free to either post the single most amazing unexperience you've had or list all of the things you haven't done that you think would be surprising.

As for me, I have never . . .

Yay for originality in thread making! Yay for Watoad!

I haven't:
played a Final Fantasty game.
owned a NES
eaten real macaroni and cheese or rice

Time slowed and Reality bent.
But on and on the Eggman went.

I have never...

kissed (or been kissed by) a girl.

played Warcraft series, XBox, Final Fantasy series, Mega Man series, Goldeneye 64, Halo, and many other games that are gernerally played by society.

learned to play the guitar.

desired to get my driver's license.

made a good first impression.

Yeah, it is a good idea! I had an idea kind of like this that I was saving for later, but I'll probably still use it some time.  And someone needs to mail Megaman Anniversary to Markio (just to borrow) so he can experience how fun it is.

*Owned any system besides a Nintendo
*I have never played very much of any Zelda game but I really want to.
*I have never gone out for any sport (yeah, I can't believe it either but I've thought about track if anything)
*Had a girlfriend.
*Met someone from the internet in person I don't think.
*Don't think I've ever played a DDR game (hence why I want Mario Mix so bad)
*Fired a potota gun off a water tower (my friends want to do that)
*Had a vision of something or at least a funny dream
*Went on a deer hunting trip
*Wrote a book
*Eaten very much foreign foods (I want to though)
*Gone to E3 with you guys, or Nintendo World
*Traveled much in the U.S.
*Got a Gameboy of any kind
*Gone on a cruise
*Been to Disney Land or any huge theme park
*Understood women
*Got all your base
*Had cable TV or a fast internet connection
*Been on a game show (I never want to do Fear Factor unless I can skip the eating part)
*Sent any fan art to TMK but I might soon
*Set a world record
*Climbed to the top of a tree
*Licked a spark plug
*Kissed a stink bug
*Thrown my mashed potatoes up against a wall
*Bathed in yogurt
*Plucked a rooster
*Been to Boston in the fall
*Never told such a bad long joke before until now

2. Played FF
3. Taken a shower (just kidding)
4. Failed a class.
5. Pooped in a public bathroom.

I'll have to think more on this one.

Anyway, I've also yet to...

"Wow. I'm wondering how you've managed to never poop in a public bathroom... Not even at school? And what do you mean you never finished a story?"

I've never finished a story. I'll get started on one, but I won't ever complete it. Oh sure, I've got "Mario's Sacrifice," but I kept writing sequals with no end. And about the bathroom. I just haven't had the urge to poop in public or at school.  It's weird.

Awesome thread, Watoad! XD

I've never:
-Been out of the country (yet HAVE been to 31 states, which makes it even crazier)
-Eaten sushi (nor would I want to)
-Consumed alcohol--not even a taste (seems nasty to me)
-TOUCHED a cigarette
-Done any sort of drug (other than prescribed and over-the-counter stuff like Sudafed XD)
-Said a swear word/used profanity
-Owned an NES nor a GBC
-Played a Final Fantasy game
-100% completed SM64 (yet HAVE 100% completed SMS X_x)
-Read any of the Harry Potter books (nor seen any of the movies)
-Seen any of The Lord of the Rings movies (nor read the books--which I said I would MAKE myself read before I could watch any of the movies)
-Worn a costume on Halloween
-Eaten venison or duck.
-Drunk Mountain Dew. I don't think I've ever drunk Pepsi, come to think of it, either.
-Gone camping ("Why would someone want to give up a nice soft bed to go sleep on dirt?")
-Gotten my driver's license (nor had a desire to drive)(And yeah, I'm 19, k?)
-Read "Romeo and Juliet" nor "To Kill a Mockingbird" (Neither were ever assigned at school to me, which amazes me, because everyone I've heard has had to read those)
-Gotten a grade lower than a C in school
-Had hair longer than my middle-upper back
-Been in public without wearing earrings (well, since I first got my ears pierced, obviously. So since I was almost 11.)
-Owned a non-digital watch
-Posted in the White Mushroom House forum... I think
-Been in any school club or involved in any school-related extra-curricular activity
-Been to Disney World
-Broken or fractured a bone
-Passed out/been unconscious (other than being under anesthesia once)
-TOUCHED a "real" gun (nor want to X_x)
-Had to go to the hospital (visiting and being born in one isn't what I'm talking about)
-Altered my hair color (hmm, chlorine has tinged it, though, but that’s kind of unavoidable if you swim in pools a lot)

Um, that’s all I can think of for now. All that might be “amazing,” anyway.

Sapphira, your posts are almost always good imo.  You have a lot of fun to say or at least some really humorous stuff (not hitting on anyone here).

* Never had a really serious injury thankfully
* Had a beard, mullet, or mustache
* Made a topic in FF that lasted very long (pity alert!)
* Read a LoTR or Harry Potter book but have seen the LoTR movies.
* Gone bungy jumping or sky diving, which I would love to do (want to join me, anyone? XD)
* Made a Mario fan fic but I have come close to it at times.  Like I wanted to make one about SSBM, and another time one about Yoshisaurus (an evil dimension traveling scientist gives a Yoshi some of the DNA of a tyrannosaurus and he becomes huge, then has to defend his island from enemies)
* Won a multi-player match in Halo

Does anyone else get this crazy feeling that Watoad is supposed to give us everything that we want soon? Lol.  I kind of do.  Must be from hearing about too many reality TV shows.  It's the "Reality TV expectancy virus"!

Sapphira, you need to try some of those experiences.  I suggest eating one piece of sushi (with soy sauce, you "sauce on everything" lady).  Also, you should read To Kill A Mockingbird.  It's a really great book.  As for Romeo and Juliet, you should probably know the plot for future references, maybe... I'm guessing you already do.

I've also never actually dyed my hair, except for one play, but it was wash-out-able halloween black hair stuff, hardly dye.  I'm a guy, so that's pretty normal.

While I share about 80% of Sapphira's "unexperiences," you seriously need to go camping. Everybody should go camping, even if they have severe allergies like me.

Also, I was tricked into tasting an alcoholic beverage (which I discovered to taste horrible). Let's just say I didn't know what "hard" meant, and I like lemonade. Normal lemonade. I still grow furious every time I think about this...

Watoad, you're lucky the shows you watch BEGAN from not recent years.  All the recently created ones are not as good.  It worries me to think that not knowing geography could hurt you in the future.  I learned all the states by playing "states tag" in fifth grade, where you have to run to the sate that is called without being tagged, so if they don't know where it is, you have a better chance of tagging them while they run in hopeless circles around the giant USA map on the blacktop.  Wish they had painted capitals too, I can't remember those...

If you saw me with all caps don't ban me, that was just some wierd thing that happened. Here's the list:

1. Met a TMK member. (Want it to change though.)

2. Had The Sims 2 (Want it bad!!)

3. Read an entire Hrry Potter book (I never even read a page.)

4. Aced HTML (But I practice with photbucket.)

5. Put a topic in the Story Boards more than once. (The one time I did is called Wario's Diet.)

6. Had 14 birthdays (Ha, ha! Im only 13!)

7. Been a very good artist. (Im pretty good, but not the best.)

8. Had an at home game system, besides PSOne. (It's broken now though!)

9. Had more than three Sims Expansion packs (I plan on getting more though.)

10. Used the username Bigmariofan1.0 more than twice. (From now on though this is my username on any more forums I go to.)

11. Liked Mario Portal a ton. (A good place for fan-games, but too much cusssing for me.)

12. Speaking of which, I don't plan on cussing.

13. Thought someone had a bigger vid-game collection. (That changed when I saw the "Pictures of Your Videogame collections" thread.)

14. Typed as long as this in any forums more than twice. (The other time was in my topic in Story Boards.)

15. Used a Virtual Boy. (They look kind of cool though.)

16. Understood Games Factory. (That thing is for experts, too complicating for me!)

17. Had a small amount of games to make with Game Maker. (I love Game Maker, and I have so many ideas for games.)

18. Been to a forum that isn't Mario related. (But I've been to the General Chats. Duh!)

19. Thought about signing up for Survivor, or Fear Factor. (Im thinking about the Amazing Race, though.)

20. Had any type of special hair-cut. (But I have, turned my hair silver.)

21. Been so attached to any forums but these. (These are the best forums out there!)

Definetly, "To be Continued."

Sapphira wins?  That's not fair.  You can't change what you haven't done.  Also, I thought this was a topic where you were supposed to say things you haven't done that most people have.  I'm pretty sure most of us haven't touched guns or done drugs.  At least not unprescribed.  I'm guessing about half of us have touched guns, though, it's really only half uncommon.  Also, if Sapphira has missed out on so many things, I'd say she's lost.  Sapphira, you should do some more stuff.  We ALL should if we want to live more lived lives.

Yeah, I'm perfectly happy in my wonderful Mario bubble.  Who needs any other system?  But if I had the money to get an XBox and it was cheaper I might just for friends and to play Halo, Fusion Frenzy, and Blinx.

IMO, the more new things you try the more you grow in life and understand.  As long as it's legal and doesn't hurt your conscience that is.

"There's nothing wrong with being Gay or Bi, especially Bi. But I'd rather not get into a discussion about Religion or Politics so I'll drop it."

I disagree, assuming you were talking about people who are actively homosexual or bisexual. But I know how arguments like these turn out, and they never seem to end up changing what anyone believes, so I won't pursue this further either.

Anyway, I can see a number of things on people's lists which also apply to me.

I think that it won't let you do attributes of <img> like title, though just a plain <img> will work.
For making stuff like lists work, much of the time, the bbcode equivalent is just HTML, with [] instead of <>

Why, when you can just click on the username and see it on their profile?

Quote
There are five or more things worth noticing in this image.
1) You registered 2 1/2 years ago.
2) That was your first and only post--and did so about 2 years after you joined.
3) You're the only one whose subject title is original--not a "re:"; it also lists the subject in every single post.
4) Everyone else joined way after you, and their post counts are ridiculously high; everyone has a title based on post count.
5) Someone did a quote within a quote--and to say something lame and that would've been easier to just say, "Yeah, PMTTYD is the best game." Saying WHY it's the best game would've been even better, making the reply not 'lame' altogether. ._.
6) Number of views is listed on each POST, not to mention too much stuff is listed in the username column, which could be just listed in the profile.
7) Banner sigs, AAAAAH. Oh, and avatars. You're the only one with no banner sig, too.
8) Your username is what your original one on the FF was.

Edit: AAH, "8)" turns into a smiley. How annoying. >_<

Blasphemy, that requires me to slightly move my mouse to my left, click once on a screename and then click back again. Would I really waste a total of 2 seconds to see a join date?

Seriously though, the displayed join date is just something I'm used to seeing. Not saying this forum needs it, but it would be nice.

Nice job, Sapph! In some form or another you got everything that I felt to be worth noticing, plus a few others. I'm impressed.

Well, and I'm glad that we mutually see what a sham such message boards as that one are in comparison to what we have here. In how much more perfect of an environment could that single post of mine have appeared? Not any better, I would think, which means either that I got lucky or that the chances of being surrounded by such content-free material are pretty high in a place like that.

P.S. I still don't know how to control the smileys here.

I've noticed some abnormally strong disapproval of topic-bumping lately, so I guess I should apologize for this post or something. What I have to say is not "phenomenal." If you ask me, however, bumping is often a better choice than creating a new topic.

Before today, there was another item on my life's list of unexperiences that I didn't think to include in my lists here:

Today that unexperience came to an end. What's really notable about it, sadly, is that I didn't like it at all. Sorry, Lizard Dude.

I was unable to stay centralized on that little, metal square in the middle, and I couldn't find the arrows with my feet without taking my eyes off of the screen—which messed me up every time I did. Never before have I gotten so frustrated so quickly with a video game. It was really quite sad. I slammed the soles of my shoes onto the flashing plastic in anger, at one point half fell off the platform, and ended up altogether walking away before the song ended.

"Stupid Japanese video games!" I thought.

But at least I knew, even as I thought so, that I was wrong. I still take pride in knowing Montana's third-best player, and he is permanent proof to me that DDR is mysteriously somehow a great game.

I wouldn't be so quick to simply dismiss it after one try, but that's just me. When I do play I have some trouble staying coordinated. Someday when I have more time to practice DDR, I will.

I can play it on my computer, with my fingers.

But, my attempts to get a pad, as well as a PS2 to USB adaptor, failed.

The fact that production of DDR: Mario Mix is halted until March, so I still do not know how to play the real way.

Thank goodness I got that for Christmas!  I began to worry when I heard that they weren't getting restocked until the spring.  The game is a riot, and by that I mean it's not only fun but also super hilarious.  Every single time I play Garden Boogie and see the 3 Koopas waving their arms to the cool music I laugh hard.  I also love the Mario remixes, especially "Jump!  Jump!  Jump!" that makes you want to shout and jump off the walls.

Watoad: Don't give up on DDR!  It's so fun when you get good at it (and nice to learn a new type of game).  The first time I played it I had the same trouble you did and my feet kept missing the buttons until I wanted to play Kick Kick Revolution by kicking the TV off the stand.  But if you practice over and over then eventually you can get a mental picture in your head of where they are, like the buttons on a controller.  However, beware of the down arrow because that little monster is so easy to miss if you're not careful!  As long as the mat doesn't slide around too much, you really listen to the beat, figure out good foot movements, and never give up, then you can handle the tough stuff and move on to harder things.  You can do it!

Here's a little warning for beginners who are going to play Mario Mix.  When you play Deep Freeze and later songs on Very Hard, make sure you're ready to do crazy things that will make your legs fly around.  I really don't like to hear that this game is easy because I'm having enough problems with this alone!

BLF1: Hope you can get the game soon.

Oh what else haven't I done?
- Written Mario fan fiction (but may soon).
- Been to Disney World
- Seen Old Yeller, the Rocky movies, or some other popular shows
- Read all of the Chronicles of Narnia books (but I'm on the second one now)
- Rode a snow mobile, hot air balloon, or hang glider

Hm. Maybe I should get DDRMM to exercise, like your old sig. I need to get rid of this egg nog...

What kind of mat does it come with? If it's a soft one that's can get all wrinkly you can glue it to one of those things you put under computer chairs, I think.
Title: Re: Amazing Unexperiences
Post by: Suffix on January 07, 2006, 05:29:42 PM
DDR:MM can seriously make you sore. I've burnt more than 320 calories on it (it tracks it if you set up a profile), and I don't play it too often. Also, note that the heavier you are, the more calories you burn. At 124 pounds, I don't rack up calories easily.
Title: Re: Amazing Unexperiences
Post by: Yoshisaurus Rex on January 07, 2006, 05:49:06 PM
BP: It's a big soft mat (I think you call it soft compared to the other ones.  I've only played on one other mat before for a Playstation one).  The instructions on it say to play barefoot but that's impossible because your feet will probably stick too much.  That's almost as bad as when I heard an instruction book say "use the smallest TV you have in the house and sit back as far as you can."  Then... buy glasses for yourself after too much eye strain. 8-(

Suffix: How long do you play it and what do you play on?  I play for around 30 minutes or more on the Very Hard setting (twice a day or more sometimes) and don't feel too sore (except for buckets of sweat), but I used to hurt a lot when I wasn't very experienced.  Maybe weight, experience, and difficulty play a part in duration.  I weigh around 180 pounds and think I burnt almost 2000 calories so far but I didn't start the tracker right away so it should be more than that.  I feel like going to an arcade now and seeing how I do there (am I just hungry for new music or want to show off?  Don't know).
Title: Re: Amazing Unexperiences
Post by: Suffix on January 07, 2006, 06:11:49 PM
I do it on Normal, and I've played it for about 30 minutes every other day since December 30th. This is the first time I've ever experienced DDR, and I can say that I do enjoy it.
Title: Re: Amazing Unexperiences
Post by: bobman37 on January 07, 2006, 06:23:25 PM
Oh yes, DDR is a very enjoyful experience. That is, if you have pads that live through a good pounding =/

Suffix, I'm a bit heavier then you and I bet way taller than you, so I guess I burn a few more calories. I never really use that thing; i just try to get AA on all the songs on Standard.

I don't feel like looking for my older post, so I might as well post again:

- I've never played a Final Fantasy (Yes, I know. Poor me.)
- I've never driven a car legally. (I don't drive unless I'm in a empty parking lot though.)
- I've never ridden on a school bus until just recently.
- I've never bought music through a download service. (No iTunes or anything; it all came from the store.)
- I've never been east or north of America. (I have been south though.)
- I've have never been to New York or California.
- I've never been able to hop around with my left leg behind my head. (But I'm getting close!)

Anyway, I've never fainted before, but I've been knocked out by falling off of a high bridge before! (It was pretty cool until I hit the giant rocks and was knocked out.)

I've gotten really close. Once when I injured my knee and once during health class.

You know how sometimes when you're sitting or lying down and then you get up really fast, and you get dizzy and you see colors for a little bit?

It's a lot like that, and then it gets worse and worse and you feel like you can't overcome it. This is the part where I lie down and it goes away after a bit. I assume if I had kept standing, I would have just lost consciousness and woken up after I hit the ground without really knowing what happened.

I've also seen what it LOOKS like to pass out. People pass out during marching band all the time. They just kinda fall backwards and then when they hit the ground they immediately sit up or try to stand again, acting like nothing happened. This one girl passed out one time and then tried to get up and her legs were shaking under her like a newborn gazelle. It was pretty funny.

Expect to see a lot of repeats... I suspect many of us are here because we all have similar traits.

As of Thursday, December 13th, I have never...

-Shot a real gun (BB's don't count in my book)
-Beaten SMB 1, 2, or 3 or Zelda 1 and 2. Actually, come to think of it, I don't think I've beaten anything on the NES...
-Done drugs or alcohol (and I obviously don't intend to)
-Intentionally broken a law (I think jaywalking and going past "Do not Cross" signs are under the radar)
-Sang public karaoke
-Gotten into a fight
-Been to PAX, E3, or any other major convention
-Gotten an actor's autograph
-Fainted
-Imported anything
-Read any of those "classics" (bleck...) like War and Peace (not if my English teacher has anything to say about it, though--I'm reading A Tale of Two Cities right now, and it's atrocious)
-Owned any other console than a Nintendo one (but if they keep up the way they're going now, that could change...)
-Watched any of the Godfather movies all the way through
-Had an inhaler
-Permanently dyed my hair, owned a cellphone, drank an energy drink, wanted a car, had a Myspace/Facebook, or pined for a car. And I'm happy!
-Kissed a girl
