Title: Show Off your Drawing Skills (Hand-drawings)
Post by: dude677 on March 09, 2006, 04:36:24 PM
How well can you draw? Want to see what other FFs want to say about your drawings? Scan your drawings (hand-drawings, ONLY) and show 'em off here. To show my skills, check out Odie (From the Garfield Comic) and comment!!

(insert picture of furry and/or overused cartoon character or meme here)

really, I'm not a good drawer. my horses look like dogs and my dogs look like pigs. and my peas look like carrots. that said, I'd probably do better in MS Paint then I ever will in real life.

that said, I kinda like all of your drawings. have any of you worked with pastels and other lesser-used art materials?

I always put a bunch of diffrent ages on sites so you'll never know my age.
I don't know why I said that.

No really, Sapph, I thought your stuff was amazing!!! You are truly an excelent artist. ...Of course you know that. ^_^ Seriously, have you ever tried to send in your art to art museums? There's a museum in Washington DC that has many kinds of art work. To tell you the truth, I think a few of your works are better than a quarter of the drawings and paintings. I'm telling you this as a judge. I also recall seeing other drawings of your's on these forums. I remember a castle on a wide and clear field sitting by a river. It had excelent shading. Why don't you post all of your art on Deviant?

I'm an artist, but I don't draw/paint/sketch/etc. I like to organize, design, and decorate rather than use hand-art. Everybody says that I should be an interier decorator. I also got a job judging high school senior and junior art; which was a great honor for me. It was really fun too. I felt like I was really important for the first time in a long time. It was lovely! ^_^

I have nothing to scan, so I'll just describe. I like to draw strange cartoons, as you may have seen (The Armless Nazi Elf Cop), and usually don't color anything. I can't draw people very well, except an exaggerated cartoony version of my friend John. When I feel like shading, I'll shade, and when I really feel like shading I'll rub the shading in and erase the unwanted parts. I drew my bird in art... I'll scan the following later: A detailed Armless Nazi Elf Cop, John, and that art assignment.

Armless Nazi Elf Cop is beaten only by Mona Lisa.

I'm not really a very good artist- I like to draw, but I'm not that good. I'm more of a spriter.

Lol, that's a riot. I think I'd pick it up and say, "Hey guys, a real dollar! The only thing that's not real about it is that it's from the United States of Blow'd up!"

Anyways, here's how I draw. Note: This drawing was made about 1 1/2 years ago. It was something for neopets that I had drawn. If only my scanner would work, I'd be making tons of deviants!

Scanners hate people. BTW, here's some piccies I'm proud of. Ones on deviantART, that is.

Wakeup call (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/29579658/) ~ Try to figure out why he did that...
I hate Ditto (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/29705790/) ~ I really do.
Mom's birthday gift (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/30073819/) ~ Do you really think she looks like me?
Homestar as PuppyLuver (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/29753001/) ~ Why anyone would want to dress up as me is over my head.
Strong Bad as PuppyLuver (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/29765360/) ~ Oh grapes, not him too!
Jade and... oh... (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/29637738/) ~ Jade(Serafina Pekkala) likeys Coach Z. Likes him a little too much. Now who does that remind you of?
WASP (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/29848543/) ~ Please try not to laugh at this.

Yeah, it would be. But we wouldn't want that to happen, would we? Because then we'd probably have to fight for oxygen tanks (if they hadn't alrady been blown up). Just like in the book, Z for Zacharia (that is not how you spell zacharia XD)

I'm giving the link because some of the stuff there may not be TMK appropriate. Meaning I sometimes say naughty words and don't feel bad about it.

Yep! I have! I've won some stuff too, or at least have been nominated in hard competitions, which have been hard to make the cut for.

Why don't you post all of your art on Deviant?
I only like posting stuff I feel are completely finished and "worthy". I lot of my art I want to touch up on or take better pictures or scans of before I upload to DA. Another part of it is laziness, since I like to make sure of dates of completion, make good commentary about each piece, among other things. Meh. >_>;

Zoinks! I never noticed this topic before!

Okay, here's some stuff I made. These characters were made up by my brother and me, and I may use them in a comic eventually. If you want to know more about them (like character sketches and stuff), just tell me. :)

Timmy Turtle (http://img306.imageshack.us/my.php?image=captimmy5fc.png)

Tara Turtle (Timmy's girlfriend) (http://img211.imageshack.us/my.php?image=taraturtle3nl.png)

Sammy Snake (http://img348.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sammysnake6yt.png)

(Sammy as "Deadeye Sam") (http://img124.imageshack.us/my.php?image=deadeyesam0og.png)

Fred Bobkins (http://img426.imageshack.us/my.php?image=fredbobkins9lo.png)

Tricia Turtle (http://img58.imageshack.us/my.php?image=triciaturtle6ix.png)

(Please Note: These characters were drawn during different time periods, and that may explain why, for example, the Fred Bobkins drawing is horrible when compared with the Tricia Turtle one.)

Other unrelated drawings:

Oaf (http://img139.imageshack.us/my.php?image=oaf4yx.png)

Oaves (yes, that's the plural) are imaginary creatures made up by my brother and me. They're like little, grouchy old men, and are characteristically loud-mouthed, clumsy, and incredibly stupid. They're sort of like dwarves, but vary much more in size (they're always a lot smaller than real old men, though). All kinds of hilarious facts about oaves have been made up, and I'll describe them to anyone who asks.

Grouchy Old Man (http://img466.imageshack.us/my.php?image=grumpygreatgrandpagrouch0sy.png)

Just a random, grouchy old man.

P.S.  Bird Person, that Armless Elf Cop is great. All you other people have talent, too.

Woops! I'm a little late to respond... XD

You have won some art competitions? That is very good! I think most of your unposted art is already good enough. Your shadings are magnificent; some times I think your art was done by computer! It's so clean and so accurate at the same time! You should color some of your pictures with MS Paint to make them 'frame-able'.

And have you tried sending in your art work into Nintendo Power? If not, you would have THE best drawings of any that I've seen in the magazines! Actually, I don't know if NP even has the fan art section anymore... Well, at least not a large section.

Mabey you should consider art as a choice of careers, if you haven't already. There's so many possibilities you can do with your skills! Everyone here is supporting you, so you should get the hint... ^_^

Thanks! ^_^  MS paint? AAAH! I use Paint Shop Pro. Several of the pencil drawings I've done I've started colorizing in PSP, like the Zelda (http://kontek.net/starhaven/art/art-zelda11.png) one, for example (original (http://kontek.net/starhaven/art/art-zelda.png)). (It's really unfinished, though)

I haven't bothered with Nintendo Power, because you have to send in the original. At least if it's by snail mail.  I haven't tried with emailing a scan, but then again, I'm lazy. Thanks, though. ^_^

My whole life, I always wanted to do something with art as a career. In elementary school, I wanted to be an artist; in early high school, graphic design; in late high school and earlier this year in college, video game design. After taking a psychology class, I realized how much I really love that stuff (I'd liked it, too, from other exposure to psych in past years), and this semester is even more of an eye-opener after taking an art class. I'm finding my heart isn't into art as much anymore. I enjoy it as a hobby, but as a career, I think I'd get frustrated and bored and impatient with it.

After seeing how passionate I am about psychology, and seeing all the troubles there are in the world (well, becoming more aware of it from my Sociology class), and growing closer to God, more and more I want to do something to help people. After realizing my spiritual gifts, as well as my personal interests, and also experiences I've had relating to other people, I'm seriously considering counseling (as I mentioned in another thread). I don't know what I'll end up doing, though. :)

These Timmy Turtle-related sketches were made primarily for practice for a comic, but I may as well post them here too. (Note that in the first two pictures there are multiple drawings of the same characters.)

http://img146.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sketches24ya.png (http://img146.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sketches24ya.png)

http://img516.imageshack.us/my.php?image=triciasketch3mv.png (http://img516.imageshack.us/my.php?image=triciasketch3mv.png)

Also I made these semi-realistic sketches; the faces are modeled loosely on pictures from book covers. As far as I know right now, these have nothing to do with any comic I'm thinking of making. They're just pictures I made for the fun of it.

GiftedGirl wins this thread. Though would that inter-species beastiality or what? Eh, doesn't matter, it's still great.

Technically, no. They're humanized, so they're humans now. Not a dog or a guinea pig.

I admire everyone's art! ^_^ Sapphira's art stands out with very well shading, and Art uses much detail to add life to his striking sketches. I think the way GiftedGirl colors inside and outside of the lines makes the art more interesting. Bird Person, your art is just like you: hilarious (Seriously, the coffee lurker? Brilliant. I hope he doesn't attack my cafe mocha) Hats off to everyone!

Wow thanks for the comments everyone. I have been drawing on and off for about 20 years or so (so almost my whole life). I guess I should make it more of a habit to draw more often. I see there are some other people that like to draw too (that’s great!). In my early years, I like to draw a ton of Nintendo characters like I see with a lot of other people, but then branched off on to other types of art. It does give me memories when I see Nintendo character drawings.

I drew this (http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/6759/deezerthevampirebo8.jpg) recently, when asked to "color" during a babysitting session. Too bad it got stepped on and it got some Magic 8 Ball juice on it... So sad.
