Mario Chat / Re: Its my B-day. . .and a MK:SC Review!
« on: August 29, 2001, 09:12:33 PM »
frostbite: I love fat Mandark's voice, but it just doesn't suit Wario, and Wario's MK64 voice was just perfect for him. As for Bowser, he shouldn't have gotten as big as he was from SM64 (I don't know how or why he grew that big). The Bowser from all of the previous games could fit in a kart, but not Bowser from SM64. Anyway, they should keep Bowser because he's a main Mario character, and I prefer him to any of the Koopa Kids or Waluigi, imo, but I do believe that Bowser shouldn't have gotten so big in SM64 in the first place. Thanks for your response!

King Bowser Koopa900: Thanks for the compliments, I appreciate it ;)!

GhettoMario: I agree with you that the voices, music, and replay value are ok, but I do have to be somewhat critical in  a review, and lets face it, those things aren't the best. The voices are not the best and you know it, even if it is for the GBA. The music is just your average Mario racing music, and that's why I used the word mediochre. I even mentioned that the music was pretty good for a racing game, and that the music is enjoyable. As for replay value, once you beat the game (as with most racing games), the tracks do get boring, especially after beating it in 3 different difficulties, and like I said improving your ratings, time trials, and multiplayer help the retail value, but once you beat this game, it'll probably get boring. Thanks for the constructive criticism and for responding to my review.

Mario Chat / Re: Buzzy Beatle vs. Koopa Troopa!
« on: August 29, 2001, 11:08:52 AM »
Well, if the Koopas are Koopa Paratroopas (any color really) or Mechakoopas, then I'd have to give the victory to the Koopa Troopas, but if its just a regular Koopa Troopa vs. a regular Buzzy Beetle, the Beetle would definitely win because of its Fireproof shell.

Mario Chat / Re: Your most Magical Mario Moment (MMM)
« on: August 28, 2001, 10:29:19 AM »
My MMM was when I beat my first Mario game (SMB1, of course) when I was 5 years old (1991). This was especially important because its the first time I got to see Princess Toadstool, and the first time I've actually completed a video game (now I'm beating them right and left, and there isn't a video game I own that I haven't completely beaten, with exception to a Superman game that required a Controller Pak to save, and I didn't want to buy another Conroller Pak just to beat it). After beating SMB1, I was ecstatic for about 7 hours; parading and dancing around the room (and driving my parents crazy).
Another MMM for me was finally completing the hardest video game ever (imo) without warping - Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels back in '96. You could imagine how excited I was to get to all of the secret worlds at the end, and how ecstatic I was following my victory.
Other MMM's include playing SMB2 and SMB3 for the first time (because they were quite different from SMB1), getting all 120 stars in SM64, getting all 96 goals in SMW, finishing off Culex in SMRPG, seeing Rainbow Road in MK64 for the first time (Rainbow Road in MK64 is pure genius), and beating every game in SMAS for the first time (great endings with updated graphics).

As you can see, I have many MMM's, because I have no life, and I love Mario games and play them often.

Mario Chat / Re: What is the longest time you ever played a Mario game?
« on: August 27, 2001, 07:43:36 PM »
I once played 14 hours,  33 minutes, and 24 seconds (I actually timed myself) straight trying to beat all of SMAS in one day without using warps. I did manage to beat SMB, SMB2, SMB3, and most of SMBTLL(SMB2J). When I say I have no life, I mean it. . .and the result was that my eyes ached for days and I was starving. I also once played SMW for 8 hours straight, resulting in a very odd Mario dream I described in the Mario dream thread, if you can find that, and I played the Mario RPGs for long alottments of time as well, probably about 6 hours each straight when I first got them. The sypnosis of this thread: I have no life. . .

BTW - It took me about a month (a half-hour a day) to beat SM64 without a guide. It's not really that hard, imo.

Mario Chat / Re: SSB Versus Records & Fighter's Tactics
« on: August 27, 2001, 07:14:53 PM »
Oh, my VS records and tactics for SSB. . .

1st Place: Pikachu, because I'm a master at the yellow rodent. With Pikachu, I'm almost undefeatable with him. (2500 or so wins, 700 or so KO's). My Tactics: I utilize Pikachu's great speed and throwing power to juggle my opponents around the screen. Occasionally, I'll use Pikachu's smash attacks and thunder, but I mainly use Pikachu's superior Thunder toss to terrorize my opponent. As for defense, I'll use the Emergency shield and roll attack very often to get around my opponent for a toss or attack, and if I fall, I'll use a double quick attack to get up. Pikachu's item using is also superior because when Pikachu uses a smash with the HR Bat or the Lightsaber, it goes both ways, thus causing a deadly attack on both sides, so if I have an item, I'll use smashes very often. My Pikachu tactics are deadly and almost unbeatable.

2nd Place: Ness, because I'm also great with Ness, and use him often as well (900 or so wins, 600 or so KO's) My tactics: With Ness, I'll use my smash techniques much more (You got to love the yo-yo and bat). Occasionally, I'll use Ness's special techniques to gather damage to my opponent or to get up from falling. I'll then finish off the opponent with a good throw. As for defense, I'll also use the shield and roll often to confuse and get behind the opponent for an attack, and when I have an item with Ness, I'll usually try to use the roll to confuse the enemy while I use the item.

3rd Place: Captain Falcon, because my friend always plays as him, and gets destroyed by me, but he still manages to get KO's. I'm also pretty good with Falcon. (400 or so wins, 1000 or so losses) My Tactics: Well, this is really my friends tactics, but I use them too. I'll utilize Captain Falcon's unbeatable speed to my best advantage as I confuse the enemy. I'll tend to use Captain Falcon's special moves because they are really good, and I wont use smashes that much, and I'll use throws occasionally. I'll also use the shield and roll to confuse the enemy while powering up a Falcon Punch, and when I have an item, I'll use my speed and shield and roll to confuse the enemy so that I could use the item.

If you're wondering, Luigi and Mario are 4th and 5th, and have good statistics because I'm very good with them. In fact the only character I'm horrible at is Link (who has like 200 wins and like 2000 losses), and I'm very skilled in most characters fighting techniques, making me a well rounded battler and a deadly one as well.

My Favorite Stages: Mushroom Kingdom (because its great nostalgia of the old days) and Saffron City (because I'm a master there)

My Favorite Weapons: Lightsaber (really powerful clobbering item), Home Run Bat (I love sending my opponents into the stratosphere with this), the Pokeball (a random effect item - great for even more insanity), and the Star Rod (A long range and clobbering item all in one. . .)

Video Game Chat / Re: Poll: If you were stranded...
« on: August 27, 2001, 06:52:07 PM »
Well, here would be my 5 games if I were stranded (If I were stranded somewhere without anything but video games, I'd spend my time finding shelter, food, etc. so I could survive, so I wouldn't play them much anyway, but for the topics sake, I'll go along). . .

If you don't count the Gamecube, then I'd pick:

1. SMAS + SMW (SNES) [5 games in one. . .]
2. Super Smash Bros. (N64) [my favorite video game to date]
3. Legend of Zelda : Ocarina of Time (N64) [who could live without a Zelda game?]
4. Sonic Adventure (Dreamcast) [gasp - a Sega game!]
5. I'm split between Goldeneye (N64) and Super Mario RPG (SNES). I'd probably pick Goldeneye, but I'm still kind of split.

Now, if you count the Gamecube:

1. SMAS + SMW (SNES)
2. Super Smash Bros. Melee (GCN) [an advanced version of my favorite video game, Super Smash Bros. - I'm definitely bringing this]
3. Mario Sunshine (GCN) [Mario + GCN = A great game {hopefully}]
4. Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II (GCN)[I'm a SW maniac, and from what I've seen, this game is an almost perfect representation of the SW universe]
5. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64)

Well, there you go, these are my choices. . .

Game Help / Re: Super Mario 64 - Cool, cool Mountain
« on: August 27, 2001, 06:32:22 PM »
Yup, Luigi is not in SM64 (though there are quite a few fake pics of Luigi in SM64 on the net that seem quite real). If you're interested, Yoshi is in SM64, and you can see him if you get all 120 stars. He's on top of Peach's castle and you can get there using the cannon by the moat surrounding the castle (when you get all 120 stars, the iron bars preventing you from entering the cannon will vanish). When you talk to Yoshi, you get several prizes, but I wont tell you what they are, you'll have to see for yourself. Does that help?

Mario Chat / Re: About Zelda Cube...
« on: August 26, 2001, 08:29:45 AM »
I totally agree - the new Zelda for Gamecube looks disappointing. However, I definitely am getting Gamecube - no way am I missing Super Smash Bros Melee (plus a few other games which I'm interested in, like LM and that Star Wars game. . .), and I'm certain that many of the other GCN games will be very successful and pleasing to us gamers. I have a question about the Gamecube - since when did Nintendo and Sega merge? I read the game previews for Gamecube, and Sonic Adventure 2 and some other Sega titles are scheduled for release for the GCN - why? If anyone could answer that, I'd be very pleased.

Edit - Oh yeah, if you don't believe that Sega is releasing games for the GCN, check this link - http://nintendo.com/spaceworld/gamesngc.html .

Mario Chat / Re: Mario Sunshine, Comments and Theories.
« on: August 23, 2001, 09:30:40 PM »
From what I've seen, Mario Sunshine looks. . .um. . .well. . .odd. What in the world does our favorite plumber have to do with the Solar System's star? Well, odd as it is, if Mario Sunshine does have good and challenging gameplay, I'm certainly going to purchase it. I love the idea of a Mario game for the Gamecube, as its 128 bit graphics and advanced technology will probably make Mario Sunshine far superior to that of previous games, at least graphic and design-wise. I guess I have high hopes for Mario Sunshine, I certainly hope its good. As for Mario's jetpack, it does look a lot like Luigi's ghost sucker in Luigi's Mansion. My theory is that Mario Sunshine and Luigi's Mansion are somehow linked to each other in gameplay. Perhaps (like Pokemon Red and Blue) MS and LM are alternate versions of each other, and you need both games to get the real ending. This is all speculative in theory, but its all possible. Anyway, I do have high hopes for the game, even though the things I've seen are quite confusing and odd, and a Mario game for the GC sounds very promising.

Mario Chat / Re: Favorite Mario Game?
« on: August 23, 2001, 09:11:04 PM »
Ah yes, my favorite Mario game. . .well, my top 5 are. . .
5. Super Mario Bros. 3
4. Paper Mario
3. Super Mario World
2. Super Smash Bros (If this counts)
1. Super Mario RPG

The reason I love SMRPG so much is because of its complexity, replay value, and because its an overally great game in all aspects of gaming.

Yay. . .I finally beat Super Mario Bros. for Super Players without warping as Mario (obviously w/o cheating, I never use gameshark or any other type of cheating device)! I would have beaten it a long time ago if it weren't for that giant pit in 4-1. Well, now I've done everything in SMBDX (gotten all black boos, medals, pics, etc.) I'm so happy. . .

Mario Chat / Re: Yoshi: A nice adition or a dorky dino
« on: August 21, 2001, 09:07:19 PM »
Yoshi from SMW, SMRPG, and MK64 (and several other games) is an adult Yoshi, and that is why he has a more mature appearance. However, SMW2 and YS take place in the past (thus Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, and Baby Bowser), and thus the Yoshis were babies, and given a more juvenile look and attitude, and a more cutesy personality. Most people like the adult Yoshi better than the baby Yoshi, but keep in mind that they really are two seperate characters (well, not really, but they have two different personalities, so yeah), and should be judged differently. The adult Yoshi, imo, is more serious and has a more mature attitude, and thus older audiences prefer him better. Baby Yoshi is cute, but is really made for child audiences, and thus older audiences dislike him. Overall, Yoshi, imo, is a great addition to the Mario world, and I really enjoy his personalities, and people shouldn't try to judge the baby Yoshi and the adult Yoshi as the same thing.

I'd be the Shy Ranger of SMRPG (you know that golden Shy Guy who's incredibly fast and runs away from every battle). That kind of speed is quite useful. If not, then I'd be a flying Black Shy Guy of Yoshi's Story, or maybe a giant Blue Shy Guy from Super Mario Advance, because both are hard to defeat (though the big Shy Guys wield hearts, making them useful).
