I suppose I'll dissect it to prove it is by no means "random."
Kirby is sittin' in a meadow with a fresh cake. Oh, how happy he is. This is to be expected, as Kirby is generally a cheerful fellow... until he has to go to photoshoots for American boxes, anyway. Then a face Kirby has seen before shows up. I've actually forgotten the guy's name, if you can believe that. But realizing that last time this large blue mouse was around, his cake was stolen, Kirby gets defensive. Suddenly the meteor from EarthBound* plummets to the ground and squishes Kirby. What appears to be Wario is now free to take his cake, and anyone who knows Wario would know that he does like desserts. But it turns out that Wario was actually GLaDOS. For those who haven't played Portal, GLaDOS is the main computer of the Aperture Science research facility who has a sort of affinity for cake.
*Originally, I was going to have a Weighted Storage Cube crush Kirby, but I scrapped that idea thinking, "Too much Portal, which would also hit too soon." I thought more about large falling objects from video games that, either actually or theoretically, kill you. I settled for the meteorite.
By the way, Wiiario, what do you think of Kirby's clothes in the comic?
