Title: Got a Nintendo GameCube- Which games should I get?
Post by: WarioLandMan on December 19, 2007, 03:49:27 PM
Hey!

I just got a Nintendo GameCube as a present from a good friend of mine- black, mem card, 2 controllers, and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes.

My questions: Which are the best games to get?

Here are the ones I'm considering:
- Mario Tennis
- Mario Kart Double Dash
- Zelda WindWaker
- WarioWorld

I also have a Game Boy Advance and Mario, Zelda, and Metroid for it so I'm also kind of interested in games that allow the GBA and GameCube to be linked together.

So what other games should I get?

Sonic Adventure 2: Battle and Luigi's Mansion are two games you should look into. I also recommend Kirby's Air Ride, but it's kind of an acquired taste. Don't get it unless you like odd racing games.

You should consider Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Sonic Adventure DX Director's Cut. If you like Mario Party, there's also Mario Party 4-7 for you to pick from. Hmm...pretty much everything else I thought of was already posted.

Whoever said Sonic Adventure DX, ignore them. The glitchiest, headache-inducing game I had the misfortune of playing. SA2:B, not as bad, but beware. Mega Collection and, to a lesser extent, Gems Collection are the best sonic for the 'cube.

Great ones no one mentioned:
Pikmin (haven't bothered with 2)
Soul Calibur II (Skraaa!)
Metroid Prime 1
Animal Crossing

EDIT: Thanks, Warprattler (not really.)

Eternal Darkness: sanity's Requiem
Metal Gear Solid: the twin snake

Both critically acclaimed(but poor-selling) games made by ex-second party developers Silicon Knights. I can't testify to them as I never played them, but I heard nothing but good.

Ikaruga, Published by Treasure. Another critically acclaimed game that flew under the radar. It's top-down shooter like Raiden.

He already has MP2.

Namco Museum (not the 50th Anniversary one, the other one) is pretty good.

Here's a list of the top 10 games you should concider getting.

10: Kirby's Air Ride

9: Star Fox Adventure's (if you can find it)

8: Sonic Mega Collection (great game because it has 7 old classics in it. Only get if you don't already own Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic & knuckles, Sonic 3D blast. The others aren't to great)

7: Wario World (great game but short)

6: The legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

5: Mario Kart Double Dash

4: Luigi's Mansion

3: Super Mario Sunshine

2: Paper Mario 2: The Thousand Year Door

1: Super Smash Bro's Melee (awesome game recommended to buy. It's both Fighting and Platforming)

That's my list at least. Here's my runner up's

Animal crossing

Mario Power Tennis

The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess (it's in runner ups because it's a little better on Wii then it is on GameCube)

Metroid Prime 1

Pikmin

Chibi Robo

Star Fox Assult

Sonic Gem's

Now I wait for the complaints :)

If your a little low on Megaman games, get Megaman Anniversary Collection. Warning: The controls are a tad different than regular Megaman games.

"tad different" = "totally opposite"

Get Alien Hominid.  It worth it just for the PDA GAMES.

Anything made by Nintendo that doesn't have "Pokemon" in the title.

Case = closed.

Mega Man X Collection is nice though. It has non-backwards controls.
Boo Dudley for the win with the Ikaruga suggestion. I wish I had that game myself.

Don't think anyone's said Tales of Symphonia yet. It's pretty awesome, even if it's not GCN exclusive anymore.

Super Mario Sunshine
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
Mario Strikers
Brawl isn't on GC, nor is it even out yet, you must be thinking of Melee.

Tales of Symphonia is the accursed game that's fun for the first 40 hours and by then you realize that it's interminable madness. With good music played by outdated synths.

Wow! Thanks for all the suggestions! I'm going to buying all these games used since I have no money. Otherwise, they all sound like good titles to get after I finish Metroid 2 (which has been really excellent so far!).

Too lazy to see which games have and haven't been mentioned, so I'll name off my favorites:

- Beyond Good and Evil

- Burnout 2: Point of Impact

- Eternal Darkness

- Metroid Prime (the first one)

- Prince of Persia: Sands of Time

- Resident Evil (the first one)

- Resident Evil 4

- Smash Bros. Melee

- Sonic Mega Collection (hey, I was deprived of the Sega Genesis as a kid, so getting the chance to have the first three Sonic games plus Sonic & Knuckles (and a few other games) on one CD (plus other stuff, like all the Archie Sonic comic covers from #1 to #100) was cool. I believe in any case that this CD has phenomenal presentation. They even have high-res scans of the original manuals for each game for you to flip through. Mind that if you consider it, the PS2 version has more games on it like Comix Zone, and both versions do not have Sonic CD.)

- Viewtiful Joe

- Wave Race: Blue Storm

No, I didn't forget Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Great game I'm sure. But when playing it... I don't know, it just doesn't seem to have the magic I expected. Maybe it was the new realistic look that meant a drastic change in appearance for Hyrule and its inhabitants. Maybe it was the relative unfamiliarity of playing Zelda on a GameCube controller (control's definitely tighter, just like how Super Mario Sunshine felt tighter than Mario 64). You should definitely give it a try though, because reviews are very positive (better than Wind Waker I think).

But then, I was one of those people who opted for Okami instead of Zelda. May they forever be together as the two greatest games of 2006, ignoring Guitar Hero.

How could I forget Resident Evil 4?

I heard Geist is a good Gamecube exclusive.

If you have friends with GBAs, get:
The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles
Pac-Man Vs.

If you were wondering where Pac Man vs is, it's included with Pac Man World 2 (the game is sorta hard to find)

Oh and here are some games that you should stay away from.

Mickey's Magical Mirror (this game SUCKS BADLY!!! stay away from it at all costs)

The Simpson's Road Rage

Rayman Arena (it's so-so but not good enough to stay out of this list)

I cant think of anymore but yeah stay away from them.

One more thing you should try getting. The GameCube GameBoy Advance Player it lets you play GBA games on you're TV and it makes it easyer to use GBA games that connect to GameCube games if you don't have a second GBA.(I found it really useful when doing that E-reader stuff for Super Mario Bros Advace 4: Super Mario Bros 3)

Get Mario Kart: Double Dash. It fun, especially with co-op players
Zelda: The Wind Waker, it's pretty fun, you should get that too.

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles
Pac-Man Vs.
I do in fact! Thanks for the tips.

What about the Game Boy Player? Is it worth getting? I've heard it's like the Super Game Boy (though I don't have one yet for my SNES)

unlike the Super Game Boy, the Game Boy player does not enhance your games in any way, even Super Game Boy compatible games. That said, It's really up to you.

Right; Brawl's all that's been on my mind lately.

Another one I left out: Mario Kart: Double Dash!!

Boo Dudley leaves out the fact that the Game Boy Player is really nice for not having to play GBA/GBC games on GBA/GBC. I still like my Super Game Boy for pre-GBC games, although it runs slightly fast.

Yes, maybe the GB Player isn't the innovation of the century, but only a soulless man could not revel in the unbridled glee of experiencing Mario & Luigi or Minish Cap on a 50" screen with the GCN controller.

There's this game that I've played that's really good, kinda like resident evil, but I forget the name of it. It was Nintendo's first M rated game that wasn't co-made by a third-party. It was cool because the game made it look like there were numerous problems going on inside the system. Like your head would just float in the air for no reason, and then the DOS screen just pops up out of nowhere.

Yeah, except it was made by a third party.  Silicon Knights.

Actually, Chupperson was right. I lied, it was Nintendos first PUBLISHED M rated game, but developed by Silicon Knights.

Silicon Knights was actually second-party, but then they... you know. Gone!

Actually, I beat it in 40 hours. So it was fun the whole time, apart from those ice puzzles. And for some reason I really like old synths.

I like old synths. I just don't like a lot of the sounds in ToS.
