Title: Ever wanted to make a Mario game?
Post by: Mario Master on June 01, 2003, 06:47:30 PM: Well here's your chance! I figured out that you can only have 4 people in your party at once with my maker (for those of you who were following my other topic). So now I'm offering positions to people who've always wanted to make a Mario RPG of their very own! Here are some of the positions:

Character design (1-3)
These guys design EVERYTHING about the (4) characters from stats, to moves, to experience gain.

Sprite design (1 up)
This is self-explanitory, but these guys make all the sprites and pictures and tiles and etc.

Story design (3-10)
These guys say what happens in the game from start to finish.

Map design (2 up)
These guys make all the maps with tiles from either sprite design or from pre-made tilesets. Drawing the maps free-hand is another option.

Item design (1 up)
These guys make all the items in the game from recovery items to equipment.

Dialog Design (1-3)
These guys put in the actual dialog that was arranged from the story designer(s) vague description. They also put what it says for starting a fight, etc.

Skill design (1 up)
They make all the magic and moves and stuff.

Game design (Me + up to 2)
We put everything together, nuff said.

Post by: Sapphira on June 01, 2003, 07:51:17 PM: Hmmm... I don't know yet. Still wanna keep my options open. Plus, I kinda like variety. :) Actually, I *HAVE* designed a few sprites SMRPG style. They're of Mario characters--that AREN'T in the game. I also have a very large collection of sprites that are from actual games. Unfortunately, it's very hard for me to obtain them or make more. New ones can practically only be in bitmap form, since my stupid Paint Shop pro was only a 30-day trial.

Any of those job selections sounds fun, though. I'll have to wait 'til more people join in. Sprite, Story, character, item, and dialogue design are my prefernces. I's like to do a little bit of all those, if possible. But alas...I'll see...

Before I decide to dedicate my time to something like this, I'd like to know what you were thinking about makeing and so on. It's tough to ask people to help, when they don't have enough information, you know?

I won't make a desicion yet, however, I also don't think limiting people to one section is good either. Sort of confines good opinions.

What I think you should do is, get a staff together. From there, find out which sections people would want to work on, and so on. Also, finding a medium to communicate on would be wise as well. Such as AIM, MSN, Y!M or even ICQ. These forums hardly supplies the direct contact you need if you plan on working together, eh?

However, I'm interested in helping you out, but I'd like to know in what direction you're planning for this game of yours. If you would supply some more information, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

I already have experience because I already make my own sprite comic.....And heck I might even be good at the story line. I already invented one quite some time ago...But I never have had the tools to make it into a game yet.....maybe it could serve as a beginning to this story?

You can't just slap all this stuff together and POOF, there's your game, you know! If that was possible, Ultimate Mario Bros. would have been a breeze for me!

Post by: Black Mage on June 03, 2003, 01:35:26 PM: Cash, he isn't using a language, let alone even programming it. Using C++, Perl, or any other language would be quite difficult, and time consuming. He's using a program entitled RPG Maker 2003. Various versions have been released in the past, but that's the newest one, and only one that allows you to EASILY create side-view battle sequences.

Why don't we just brainstorm about possibilities and everyone says what they wanna do, then we combine them all together and make a Mario game. I will do all of that. I was just waiting for people to say what they wanted to do, and then I give them more info about it. So right now, if it's ok with you guys, we can write up a story line for it and go from there.

I think that someone other than Peach or Luigi should be kidnapped. In fact, why not Yoshi? He would be pretty cool to rescue (by more than freeing him from an egg). Anyway, forget all the positions, everybody pour all your efforts into the story first, then we'll worry about the other stuff.

Post by: The Big Boo on June 03, 2003, 03:23:44 PM: Well, I don't think Bowser should be a bad guy, since every loved being Bowser in SMRPG. So maybe we should think of a new bad guy. Or, we should just use Smithy. OR, like in Sonic Adventure 2, we could have two parts of the game, one featuring the story from the bad guy's point of view, and another from the good guy's point of view.

Post by: Mario Master on June 03, 2003, 04:47:33 PM: Any suggestions are welcomed! However, I think we should come up with someone new to threaten to destroy the Mushroom World. Maybe we could make it so there is this thing called the Ztar Road (isn't Ztar from Mario Party?), and it's like the Star Road, but it's evil and grants the EXACT OPPOSITE of all good wishes (if you wished for peace, there would be war; if you wished you were taller, you'd get shorter; etc. It would grant evil wishes however [like bowsers]). However, it was destroyed by Geno's people a long time before there was any life on the Mushroom Planet. However, Bowser has found a map that shows the location of the 7 Ztar Pieces (this is not going to be another "save the seven stars". You'll see). Parakarry, who happened to be delivering Bowser's mail, overheard the conversation between Bowser and his cronies. Parakarry then tells Mario and Luigi about it, and they try to stop Bowser, but fail. Bowser reforms Ztar Road and makes his wish: "I wish Mario and Luigi had never been born!" Mario and Luigi disappear, and the Mushroom World falls into chaos. Without Mario and Luigi, there was noone to stop Bowser from taking over the Mushroom Kingdom. Also, without Mario, the Star Road remained broken. But since Geno's PEOPLE were never effected by the changed time, Geno realizes what's going on and you use him to save the day! YAY! </stupidity>

maybe you could blend it into my story line. The basic of my story was like this:
all villians finally smarten up and team up together to finally defeat the infamous Mario bros! The game kinda goes from Bowsers view at first and it basically explains some shockers(that I invented) such as Smithy being a Mercenary to Bowser, with whom he had hired to crash his own castle, just so he could find more info on Mario. another shocker(one of the most unpopular on this board im afraid) is that Bowser had some of his troops trained secretly, so they could go under cover and then brief the rest of the troops on mario. Who are these you ask? none other that marios party from Paper Mario! They do this and Bowser takes over every inch of the mushroom kingdom (with the help of the Ztar road :P) Then, for the party members I had Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Mallow, Geno, Yoshi, and the most surprising of all...DK! ya see, also in this saga we find out that Tatanga, Wart, and King K. Rool are actually Bowsers cousins! and now that they have teamed up not only are the areas in TMK doomed but so are the DK isles!

There that should be enough briefing for the game story line...I have a few ideas inbetween...and one of the major things I have is all the stats, enemy lists, items and everything all in word documents!

Also, they would make a wish to make the mario bros. little kids, kinda like DragonBall GT. And thinking of TLOZ:A Link To The Past the dark mario bros. came from the dark world...That would be cool. Kinda like slapping in storys from different things. Anyways I think I might to MIDI if I still have room with Maestro 'cause I think he can take care of it all..

So far--SMRPG style--I've made Daisy, Wendy O. Koopa, Tayce T., Twink (iffy), Luigi (iffy--he's basically Mario in green), and several Mushroom people.

As for the Ztar sprites, we won't really need them. You'll find out later. As for your idea, Marionut#1, I think we should just leave it to Mario and Geno. There's really nothing wrong with your idea, just it would be kind of... hard to do all that. You'll see, this will turn out cool. BTW, how about we start up our own website where we post our games for all to see? I even thought up a name: Gamer's Haven.

Post by: Sapphira on June 04, 2003, 10:20:42 AM: That's okay. What game should we base the sprites on, then? I'd recommend SMW: SMA2, SMB3 (SMAS/SMA4 style), SMA (SMB2), and YI. Probably whichever game best represents the appearance of each individual character.

I can provide sprites, still. 2-D is actually easier to work with in creating new ones. You need positions from the front, sides, and back, right? I'll see what I can do...

Oh yeah, I also remember in SMRPG style I made Kamek, Kammy Koopa, and several multi-colored Magikoopas, and a questionable-looking Koopa Troopa.

Anyhoo, tell me any sprites specifically you'd want. Sprites--creating them and providing ones from games--are my specialty.

Post by: Sapphira on June 04, 2003, 10:54:47 AM: I'd recommend having Wario (and Waluigi) in it, but as a non-starring role. It'd be cool if you discover that they're secretly working for Bowser (or Ztar or whomever the boss is)--but only for their own advantage.

I think Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Peach, Geno, Toad and maybe Daisy would make a cool team. Maybe incorporating other teammate from like Paper Mario, too. Of course, you could only have 4 out at a time in battle.

Peach could join your team, and about halfway into the adventure, she could get kidnapped. Maybe she could get rescued close to the end, but with enough time to join the team again. I don't think Yoshi or Luigi or anyone else getting kidnapped would be a good idea.

And that'd be cool, Yoshi6! Our own website! ^_^

I still need to do his front and back walking postions. 1. Excellent resource for renders, sprites, screenshots, etc.
2. Very, *very* basic HTML... (my main hindrance)
3. I'm an artist--I can make logos, backgrounds, layouts, etc.
4. Excellent grammar (and spelling--and when I'm not sure, I use spellcheck. :P)
5. Perfectionist
6. TONS of free time
7. responsible, trustworthy, persistant
8. VERY Creative
9. an author
10. Good at listing/organizing (one of the advantages of having OCPD :P)
11. generally easy-going personality
12. I Make sure everyone follows the rules (including self)
13. Quick learner
14. Multi-tasker
15. Skilled in multiple areas

6:00-7:30 Watchin' TV, Computer on commercials
7:30-10:00 Varies every night
10:00-11:00ish Computer
11:30-1:00 in room
1:00-2:00 sneek downstairs and get on comp (heheheh...)
2:00 on: sleeping

Yeah, that's my life...not much of one, but it's fun! ;P

1. I have played or own nearly every Mario game
2. I know almost every single detail in the Mario Universe...this helps me to make a coherent story line..
3. Im a pretty good speller too and when the words get tough I also use spell check(when Im not lazy :P)
4. As soon as I get these essays done I will have plenty of time to work on this stuff till I go on vacation at the end of the month
5.Im an amatur spriter/sprite editor, and I already have emailed sprites, and most of the story line to every body but you Yoshi6 (Ill fix that though)

I've already done a few sprite sheets for the characters, and I'm trying to keep 'em consistant to that style. It's in the style of the different SMA games--combined uniquely.

Why not make a comic where we take on the identity of different Nintendo characters by using a special device we create? That would be cool! We beam our minds and souls into different characters, and then we start messing around. But then we find out that in another dimension, we (in the other dimension) take on the roles of the bad guys because we're evil in that dimension. But we end up in the same videogameverse and we fight to the finish. But that's not it. Since most people in the negaverse are evil, and we just opened a portal between the two, we have to either close the portal (which in the comic can't be done) or destroy the negaverse (which we end up doing). Pretty cool, huh? (Dibs on Megaman!)

As you all know,the Ztar (how do you pronounce that?) Road grants bad people their evil wishes. This is kept in balance by the Star road, which grants people their god wishes. If one of the roads was destroyed, the world could be dramatically altered, which is bad. Now Bowser, learning about the Ztar road from some of his koopa spies, decides the world would be a whole lot better if Mario never went down the Warp Pipe in 1983, so he plans on sealing up the warp pipe so Mario never came.Some of thecronies decide to knock the stars off Star Road, one by one. (Bowser doesn't have good logic.) Boswer shoots down the first Star with his koopa laser beam. The other stars, however, are angry at Bowser, and send his flying backward toward the horizon. Now Mario, who is having yet another Party, suddenly gets beamed on the head with a shooting star from Star road. This Star turns out to be... GENO! Because the Ztar road senses that the Star Road is off balance, the Ztars decide to finish Bowser's plan, and destroy Star road, because they're evil. Then, a dissheveled- looking Bowser arrives at Peach's Castle and tells Mario and company about the whole story. Geno, who has currently taken the from of a cake,(he can't find the Geno doll) forgives Bowser, but Bowser must come along with Geno and help fix Star road. Mario decides he should come along too, in case Bowser does anything stupid. Mario's friends all run home to get their... um...adventuring clothes... but then, suddenly, a Ztar road monster comes at them. Mario takes care of this, and Geno informs Mario and Bowser that the monster is from Ztar road, and it appeared beause the Ztar road is now going to try to fight the Star road, and the Ztar road is probably trying to get rid of Mario and company before they save Star road. Mario, Bowser, and Geno (now a doll agin) leave right awaybuteventually, Peah, Luigi, Yoshi, Mallow, Toad, and Donkey Kong join up with Mario to save Star road. By the way, Wario learns that he can be rich if he destroys the Star Road, so he, Waluigi, and some of Bowser's underlings are Mario's enemies, along with the Ztar road monsters. Eventually, Mario and crew get back to Star road and defeat the Ztar road Ztar sprits, and peace in the Mushroom Kingdom is restored.

Bowser finds out about the Ztar Road.
The Ztar Road had been destroyed, and it's 7 pieces scattered across the Mushroom World, well guared.
Bowser decides to put the Ztar road back together by collecting the 7 pieces.
The Ztar Road grants the wishes of evil people.
Mario finds out about Bowser's plan and decides to try and stop him by getting to the Ztar Pieces first and hiding them before Bowser can find them.
Mario can only recover 3 of the 7 Ztar pieces.
Mario meets up with Bowser, knowing he has the 4 other pieces somewhere on his person.
Unfourtunatly, the 7 pieces are too close to each other, so they pull themselves to each other, causing them to reform Ztar Road.
Bowser hops in his Clown Copter and goes up to Ztar Road.
He makes the wish that Mario would be completely powerless and that he could rule Mushroom Kingdom.
Geno comes down to the former "Super" Mario and tells him of the 7 Star Warriors who defeated the Ztar Road long ago. Geno also tells him of the great powerful items they left behind when they left: The Star Hammer, the Quazar Mail; the Shining Staff, the Pulsar Leggings; the Moon Glove, the Solar Mail; the Nova Gun, the Planetary Cape; the Light of Day (a magic ring), the Golden Dress; the Moonlight (also a magic ring), the Magical Dress; the Pegasus wings, and the Titan's helmet. That's all for now. I gotta go.

Anyway, I don't think DK's ready to star in a Mario adventure. He'd make a good NPC, though. What about Toad? Doesn't he deserve to star in another game? If he's not a hero, at LEAST can he be a tag-along at different points, kinda like Kolorado was in PM?

You're forgetting that I'm designing the character sprites, so a creating a new charcter would be cruel... Unless she has the same base model as Peach or another charcter. Daisy would be easiest to do.

Anyways, I think the only way anything is going to get done, is for everyone to get their ideas out and then have one person, he one in charge of compiling the storyline, and a few assistants, of that person's choice maybe?, to help them out. Other-wise, it will become difficult, as everyone would like to see their plot be the one, ya know?

I figured that F,H,L would make a good title screen theme and Song 21 would be good battle music-----maybe. If you can come up with other uses for them go ahead, I was just making suggestions.

Someone with Paint Shop Pro or something similar would be a great help--just make sure the image doesn't alter any, which is a piece of cake to make it not alter using PSP.
