Title: What's your WPM?
Post by: Deezer on December 21, 2005, 12:25:53 AM
http://www.typingtest.com/ says I'm about 70+ words per minute.

Tigers in the Wild, 3 minutes: 3 errors, 69 net WPM
Fishing in Finland, 3 minutes: 3 errors, 73 net WPM

I stopped there because my wrists got tired. XP

Strategic Alliances with Competitors

Gross Speed: 54 WPM
Errors: 0 (I had more, but I went back and fixed all of them... because of the way I think)
Net Speed: 54 WPM
Accuracy: 100%

So, ya, a bit slower than Deezer, but again, I went back and fixed the mistakes I made, which sort of slowed me down. Sort of.

Well, I am realy bad at these tests. Ever since grade school, I was not able to type what I see on the screen. It was that stupid program: "Mavis Becon Teaches Typing." I don't look when I type, but I can really only type fast when I know what I want to say in my head. I have to "think ahead."

Therefore, I was...

Tigers in the Wild
Gross Speed....44WPM
Errors..............3 Words
Net Speed........41 WPM
Accuracy.........93%

Tigers in the Wild:
Gross Speed: 60 WPM
Errors: 10 words
Net Speed: 57 WPM
Accuracy: 94%

Hm.

You typed very well.  Press Next to send your results.
Sweet!  I thought I was going sluggish.  Though, I did the easy 1-minute test. "Tigers in the Wild":  78 WPM, 2 errors, 76 NWPM, 97%.

I've been getting about 51 WPM, but I do the same thing as Steve. I also often instinctively hit backspace without thinking, feeling like I've made an error with my fingering, even though I can see I never did on-screen. >_<

My WPM also slowed down significantly on words I wasn't used to typing, like, ever. Especially words I wasn't sure on spelling, which I typed slowly to make sure I was typing correctly.
Koop said nicely how I am, as well.

Hahaha yeah, the first one I tried was the 1-minute Fishing in Finland and I got 78WPM, no errors.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz - 3 minutes
Gross speed: 78 WPM
Errors: 5 words
Net speed: 76 WPM
Accuracy: 97%

Strategic Alliances with Competitors - 3 minutes
Gross speed: 73 WPM
Errors: 1 words
Net speed: 72 WPM
Accuracy: 99%

My average for all is: 72.5 net WPM

:D  I sense friendly competition.

I tried Fishing in Finland for 3 minutes.  It felt awful!  2 or 3 "Finald's" later, I had 94% accuracy.  13 errors brought 76 WPM down to 72 NWPM.

This applet would be near perfect if it fished Google for source text or perhaps generated some on its own.  It's probably easy to get used to a particular exercise.

53 WMP, no errors

Maybe I should spend some time playing "Mario Teaches Typing."

If you (any of you) switch to the Dvorak keyboard layout (http://kb.iu.edu/data/aepk.html), as I've been thinking of doing, then your typing speeds will probably increase noticeably. Once I crack the problem of changing Japanese entry into the Dvorak layout along with English, then I'll very likely be making the potentially questionable switch.

Also, one of my friends thinks that his sister's husband's grandfather is the guy who developed the alternate layout. No joke.

I do want a Dvorak keyboard, but I don't know where I would get one.

EDIT: Reading the page I see that it wouldn't be necessary.  [/edit]

- Test Name: Strategic Alliances with Competitors
- Date: 2005-12-22 07:55
- Test Time: 02:00
- Gross Speed: 61 WPM
- Errors: 2
- Accuracy: 98%

- NET SPEED: 60 WPM

Started to do more, then virus scanner that takes up 70% of CPU switched on and slowed everything down.

Watoad, you should post your test scores using QWERTY, then retake them using Dvorak in a few months or whatever and post those. It'll be a fun comparison thing!

Mine is around 20.I'm one of those people who always look at the keyboard and only use the first two fingers. :P

Excellent idea. I'll take the test(s) with QWERTY soon. Realistically speaking, that probably won't be until after I return from my trip (which has a three-hour layover in Chicago on the way there), but I'll try to remember.

I started taking the test, but I had to go answer the phone and goofed up.  I got something like 50 WPM and 93% accuracy.  I'm one of those people that look back and forth from the keyboard to the computer, so that slows me down.  I also don't type "correctly", but using generally my index and middle fingers only, and thumb for keyboard.  Sometimes if the right sentence comes along, I can type it really fast!

In my first try, using the settings of 1 minute, Fishing in Finland, i had 87 gross WPM, 5 errors, 82 Net WPM, and 94% accuracy. Thanks to Type to Learn, my average typing speed in elementary school was around 90-100 wpm. I love typing =)

I am like sooooo updating what I wrote. It seemed so immature XD. I type an average of 50 WPM. But when I was younger, I beat my speed with 98% accuracy and 70 WPM.
