Mario Chat / Re: Super Mario Maker

I shouldn't have bought this.

Making a good level is hard. Choosing a theme is hard. showing the player what the theme is in a safe environment so they understand what's going on before you go to town with it is hard. Telegraphing hazards is hard. Pacing action and deciding when a mercy powerup is earned is hard. And there is no restraint that can stop me from doing it and doing it right even if it takes hours.

It helps, though, that I can't seem to remember I made the level I'm in after I hit play. I either really get Mario level design or I just know what works on me, because I fall for all my own manipulation tricks and get killed by bad design when I don't put those tricks in. In my most recent level, after the checkpoint, there is a pipe that produces Koopas because you need a shell, and I kept getting hit by the first one as it'd fall out until I put a 10-coin block to keep myself busy until after it did.

No, this Samus has a will

I mean I remember Other M Samus having some scenes where she's all >:< 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎 and her doing that was supposed to be like "yeah this is what she does like all the time" but someone who's contrary all the time isn't willful, they just have everyone else's will with a minus sign on it

This is probably a no-brainer, but have you tried out all sorts of combinations of karts and bikes with characters of different weights? I cannot win if I'm on a bike, but I know many people who swear by them. Try out different tires as well. Glider doesn't really matter too much in my experience.

Hug the curves, always do a trick off a ramp, get 10 coins as early as you can and keep 'em. Don't worry if you never get good at 200cc.

If by the end of episode 9 Snoke doesn't turn out to be a big hologram with the real thing being a space bear I'm never watching a Star Wars ever again

I think that's Nintendo's big weakness right now, though--no, no, not that oh deary me, Nintendo doesn't have Assassin's Creed 52, they're doomed!, but that, it takes a lot of effort and money to make a game these days. No one else is trying to support a system almost all alone, let alone two. They still have the passion and still make a quality video game, if they could only figure out how to focus all their efforts into one machine that satisfies a very large audience, one made up of people with no time at home to play games and also people who want to kick back and relax and play their games on a big screen....

yeah yes i really think making the handheld that is also a console would solve pretty much all of their problems and be the best thing since everything else, and i think they believe the same thing--it would make sense if the wii u were born of prototypes for this concept

For me, 7's a smaller-than-usual number but not so much that it's a big shock. I usually get about ten games for a system over its lifespan, or after. Historically that comes from not being able to afford stuff, and now that I can it comes from not being willing to pay 60 dollars for a game... which is why my Steam list (59 by my counting) towers over the next-most games I have for a console (14 on the Wii). Although, I have gone against that unwillingness a lot of times for Wii U games because I am enslaved by the Mario

I am gonna get Pikmin 3 really soon though, price drop, big celebration

Seven here. I enjoyed them all greatly except Pokkén which I've yet to set some significant time aside for.

I'm sure I'd have more games for it if it were all I had... if I weren't sucked into Dark Souls and Brawlhalla and stuff. I will get Pikmin 3, I might want Mario Maker sometime later...

But isn't that the problem, that I have alternatives and have spent my time and money there instead. A problem for Nintendo, not for me. Hmmm...

Shouldn't it be about time for the 3DS (a very good system with lots of great games, and spectacular backward compatibility) to hand over its torch too? Hmm hmm hmm hmmmmmmmmmmmmMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmm. I wonder what will happen.

Began a second playthrough a couple days ago. I'd forgotten how good it was. Thought I'd bring it up and bump the thread as a reminder that Paper Mario wasn't the only outlet for personality in Mario games. If you're disappointed about Color Splash, try Dark Moon, or play it again.

Hasn't changed? Of course it has! Most people are gone and everyone still here has had babies, or gotten jobs, or gotten jobs delivering babies

Mario Chat / Re: Is Shigeru Miyamoto Good for Nintendo?

The thing I don't understand about all the people saying Nintendo is going downhill and become a stagnant cesspool--and hey, maybe they're right, maybe the era of yearly Mario Party was the pinnacle--is that none of them ever talk about what they've been playing lately instead of the crappy Nintendo games. By which I do not mean there's nothing else to play. There is! Other games exist. Other good games Nintendo didn't make, publish or get on their machines are just waiting for you to play them.

If you trust Nintendo to make games you'll like more than you trust yourself to do a little research and decide whether you'll like something unfamiliar, that's on you. It's a market competing for your money, you can't be a loser in that battle unless you commit to a side
