Video Game Chat / Re: Games you think are perfect

Hmmm... I disagree with DKC2. I bought that game from the Virtual Console, and it is far from perfect to me. Much of what I have played is confusing and frustrating in a bad way.

But Donkey Kong Country Returns I agree is near perfect. The level design is superb, everything is much clearer, and it manages to achieve being difficult in a good way.

Well now we know that these things... actually I'm more confused than before.

Yeah I've played it both alone and with two friends, and it is definitely more fun playing with friends. When playing alone, it feels like a mediocre Zelda game, partly because switching between the two characters can become tedious (though necessary); it's meant to be played multiplayer.

The game is awesome! You can play single player, though it is more fun playing with friends. The game also features more levels than the original for the GBA. The new levels are in the style of Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, and the original Legend of Zelda.

And Bigluigifan, it saves whenever you complete an entire level.

It just came out for DSiware (and therefore 3DS eShop too) today for FREE. Has anyone else gotten this yet?

But there is the Super Leaf item with the exact design as the one in Super Mario 3D Land. I'd say that's pretty significant considering we haven't seen the Super Leaf since Super Mario Bros. 3, meaning the item is mostly likely included as a tie-in with SM3DL.

It's unlikely since the two games were in development at the same time, but I hope MK7 is stuffed full of references/courses based on/pulled from Super Mario 3D Land.  One thing I really love about Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart 64 is how they really seem to be companion games to Super Mario World and Super Mario 64, respectively.  Visual design is similar, and a bunch of the courses are directly based on locations from the games.  Double Dash did a really good job of matching up with Sunshine, too, now that I think about it.

It's not unlikely for this to happen, as two of the already-known new courses coincide with other games, namely Donkey Kong Country Returns and Wii Sports Resort/Pilotwings Resort.

Yeah it would be kinda disturbing if that were still canon.

Here's a similar tribute to the Zelda series done in Mario Paint Composer:

There are no visuals for it like in the Mario video, and the beginning is odd, but it still is an amazing tribute to another Nintendo series.

I'm curious as to how the super leaf works... and the 7 of course. I have no idea what it will do.

And what about the thing in the bottom right corner? I am perplexed by its look of innocence.

Video Game Chat / Favorite Video Game Song
« on: August 14, 2011, 11:04:21 PM »
Pretty simple topic. Discuss and optionally link to a song or songs from video games of any kind that you consider your favorite.

Mine would have to be the song "Hope Is Not Lost" from the ending of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ibmn_Ok72og&feature=related

The song takes place when, after the Shadow Queen appears invincible, about to be unleashed on the world, leaving Mario hopeless, almost everybody you meet in the game rallies support for Mario through the Crystal Stars, creating an awesome scene made more awesome by this amazing song.
