I don't need any more game recommendations.   I'm just wondering now whether I can trust a used unit or if I should play it safe and pay $130 for a new unit.
I hesitate to get a used one because I don't want to give GameStop business unless I have no other choice.

Well, I wouldn't buy one from GS, and I would usually say it's probably safer to get a new one. The new slim ones run pretty smooth. People always warn against used PS2s and I will agree, at least about the ones with pre-PT2 serial numbers. Either way, my PX-serial was apparently refurbished before I got it from a friend, and it's always worked fine.
That was a joke.

Okay.  Thank you.  I should know by tomorrow how much I have in my checking account, and I'll get a PS2 this weekend if I have enough money.

Yeah, my new PS2 slim works beautifully, while my older PS2 from 2001 gave up a while ago and is now a hunk of plastic. You should buy a new one, especially since you will almost certainly get your money's worth.
