Video Game Chat / Re: iOS Game Suggestions
« on: December 06, 2011, 01:15:15 PM »
I know this isn't related to iOS, but Windows Phone has a lot of games currently on Xbox Live like Assassin's Creed and such, and more games are being developed for it all the time (I'm even making one).

I agree. The original three games were broken and imbalanced beyond belief and had no real sidequests aside from the usual completed Pokedex.

I would appreciate it if you would clarify why you don't like D&P. It introduced many awesome breeding features and I personally prefer the physical/special split.

What's wrong with that? I think they're the tied for the best with D&P.

I'd say the biggest thing I dislike about myself is the fact that I take a while to get started on stuff, but once I start I have trouble stopping.

I don't think gimmick would be the right term because those games introduce new gameplay mechanics. If they were merely gimmicks then the Mario series wouldn't be so great.

I'm not sure why you refer to it as a gimmick because it's the series' main game mechanic.

Anyway, I think Toad is right for the most part. Most Mario game box arts do indeed show Mario jumping, but that doesn't mean it's a bad thing. I think the horizontal flip and slightly reworked Mario art for SMB2 USA's box art is a little lazy, though.

That first course of Star Cup does look amazing! I really liked the whole underground theme. I can't wait to get this game, but I'll probably be picking up Super Mario 3D Land first.

This is too tough for me because I don't have a single favorite. I'll name some of them:

Super Mario Bros: Overworld
Super Mario Bros. 2: Underground
Super Mario Bros. 3: World 6 (16-bit)
Super Mario 64: Dire Dire Docks
Super Mario Sunshine: Bianco Hills
Super Mario Galaxy: Gusty Garden Galaxy, Good Egg Galaxy
Super Mario RPG: Nimbus Land
Paper Mario: Mt. Lavalava
PMTTYD: X-Naut Fortress
Mario Kart Double Dash!!: Menu
Super Paper Mario: Francis Battle
Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga: Beanbean Outskirts
Mario & Luigi Partners In Time: Yoob's Belly
Mario & Luigi Bowser's Inside Story: Plack Beach
New Super Mario Bros. Wii: World 8 Map, World 9 Map

Video Game Chat / Re: Sonic Generations

I don't know. I heard good things about it but I saw some Modern Sonic gameplay and was disappointed that about every level just randomly turned into a 2D side-scroller. That's what Classic Sonic is for. I was hoping to see many of the old levels recreated in full 3D, similar to Sonic Adventure 2's Green Hill Zone. That boost ability just completely ruins the game as well.

Also, why does Super Sonic jump just as high as normal Sonic? Yes, he has more acceleration, but his better jumping abilities are what made him stand out from other characters' super forms.

I can understand the no consoles thing, but the game is free until November 2nd. It doesn't matter how tight your budget is.

I overlooked that; my bad.

I'd actually be interested in taking these challenges, but unfortunately I don't have any consoles here and my budget is pretty tight.

It's a painting.

I can't believe I didn't notice this before, but I lost badly to it. Amazing!

I wasn't referring to speeding through every level. Let's say there's a slope that curves and extends up to a ledge, like they have in every 2D Genesis sonic game. If you didn't have enough momentum to get up the slope, you can just activate the boost instead of going back and gaining more speed or using the Spin Dash. Now that I think about it, why did they bother making Sonic's boost move when he has the Spin Dash? That was the entire point of making it in Sonic 2...
