After playing Partners in Time, I thought up of this, what do you prefer, the physically impossible Bros. Attacks, or the Bros. Items? For me, It's Bros. Items, I love the cannonballer, jumping across from one screen to the bottom, what's yours?
-
I can't decide. They were both awesome was of attack. I enjoyed Bros. Attacks because of the button pressing and tactics of how to use them, it was fun to watch and attempt to perfect. The bros. items, were repetitive, but very effective and were a bit fun as well, I liked going crazy with Copy Flowers and did pretty good with it as well.
-
Although I liked both of them, there were more things I liked about the Bros. Attacks than Items. Firstly, I found that the Bros. Attacks were more fun to preform. Secondly, they weren't as repetitive (although this repetitiveness allows for massive damage). Last, they didn't involve propelling an infant at an enemy, which seems reckless, especially since the future of the entire world hinges on the survival of these babies.
I do think that the attacks and items looked equally cool, however. The Copy Flower was quite amusing.
-
I can't decide, but I know that I loved the GBA game while the DS version became boring to me. I've yet to finish it, but am going to replay the original GBA game.
-
Definitely Bros. Attacks. They were simply more fun to learn and to perform, especially once you learned the advanced techniques. Not to mention the versatility you get at that point. And I liked drawing from the replenishable bros. points much better than using a finite item.
And then there's the issue that I thought M&L:SS was a much better game than M&L:PiT in many ways, which doubtlessly relates to my preference here.
Still, a number of the items WERE pretty fun to use (like losing oneself in the clone flower's process, and just kinda zoning out and laughing at how fast it's getting). But for me it's Bros. Attacks all the way.
-
"Can't decide" is a lame option. Either you like Bros. Attacks or Items more, If you can't decide think long and hard.
I voted attacks. While not as versatile or variable as items, they look cooler when used and go along with the game more sensibly--it makes sense that you'd be unable to do Fire Bros. at the beginning simply because they haven't learned how. The old-fashioned "Oh, yeah, we won't get any orders of the most powerful item until later in the game and no enemies around here will have them" rule just isn't as realistic. Also, the Advanced versions are awesome.
Okay, the Copy Flower was cooler than any other Bros. Item or Attack. It's also super-powerful when mastered...But the first time I got Advanced Thunder Bros. right... oh man.
Fifth: Well, you get eternal Bros. Items with the Ulti-Free badge, which is kind of cheating... though you have to work your butt off to earn it so it's fine with me.
-
I liked the Attacks better. They were less repetitive and less cheap to use.
-
While they're both awesome, I don't think anything can beat Mario whacking an electrically charged Luigi into the ground and having the submerged Luigi zap an enemy from under their feet! BTW My internet was down for days, but it's back!
-
After some thought, I've decided I like Bros. Items more. I like them better because since there was more of them, there was more variety (In my opinion, at least).
Although, deep down, I do kinda miss the bros. point system.
-
Bros. Attacks for me. More fun and more entertaining.
Also, Superstar Saga was fun and I beat it.
Partners in Time was boring and I did not finish it.
-
I picked Bros. Items. I probably can't beat the game (or at least, not for a long time) without the Copy Flower.
-
After reexamining the games I changed my vote to Bros. Attacks.
-
I have realized that Partners in Time is very underappreciated. I admit that its not as great as Superstar Saga, but it's by no means a bad game. I feel like I'm one of the only ones here that has finished it. I didn't mind the Bros. Items, but I would've loved to have seen what kind of Bros. Attacks the babies could've had.
-
Partners in Time: A great game.
Superstar Saga: A fantastic game.
So SS is better. PiT is still great. I lost my original copy of PiT. I got a used copy today to make up for it and I'll never regret it.
-
I certainly finished PiT!
-
If we're talking about Superstar Saga, I'll go with Bros. Attacks. The only way to get better at them is to practice--which is fun. As for items, most of them you just push a button and *poof*.
-
I'll go with Bros. Items because of the ridiculous amount of damage that I can rack up with the green shell. Certaintly made a couple of boss battles go by a lot easier.
-
I love the over-the-top, uber-destructive power of the Bros. Items, but there's still just something indescribably (classic? Fun?) About Bros. Attacks. Eh... Items for me, though I don't like how PiT was OBSESSED with those things. Seriously, why didn't they just take away your regular attacks?
Oh, and you wanna compare the games? Superstar Saga: One of the best GBA games ever, if not one of the best portable games ever, if not one of the best RPGS ever, if not one of the best games ever. Partners in Time: I want(ed) to love it, but I got to the final boss in, like, two days, tops. And then the final fight takes two-and-a-half hours. But what did you expect? It's a DS game: Kinda fun, but criminally easy and/or short (the drastically unbalanced difficulty later in the game is optional to all developers).
PiT still rocks, though.

I can't decide, but I know that I loved the GBA game while the DS version became boring to me. I've yet to finish it, but am going to replay the original GBA game.
My thoughts exactly, except for the can't decide part. Bros Attacks were funner to do because of the challenge of pulling them off successfully and pummeling your opponents to their defeat. Bros. Items felt cheap and were practically the only thing you needed to win in all battles in PiT.
-
That's exactly what I thought! Also, there was a best item of all of them. The red shell could be used over and over and over and over again until it finally just disappeared. It could cause such abominable damage, that it was the only one I used. Back when there were Bros. Attacks, I used every one of them (especially the Thunder-er-using one for multiple opponents).
I also miss the ability to make your characters hideously powerful. In my sophomore year, I dedicated many hours just for making Mario (and especially Luigi) immensely powerful, using beans and leveling up. I got to Level 95 (no joke), and then got a new game.
EDIT: I just spotted my game, and looked up the stats. Luigi has a power rating of 622. Mario? About half that much. Go go Teeheespresso! Also, they're Level 96.
-
Uhhh, guys, I you didn't know, alot of bosses had certain stratagies on how to beat them, not just pummel on the damage. Like with Swiggler, you have to knock the Shroob Dr.'s that are holding the crossbone shroom, make it fall into the vim that Swiggler drinks, and his stats will be decreased, so you can use normal attacks. Also with Sunnycide. You have to break the eggs to find the Yoshi's inside. find enough to push that chomp rock onto Sunnycide. if not, every attack will do only 1 point, n00b's.
-
^ Well, yeah, but the point is that traditional attacks are useless.
-
It's too hard. Bros. Attacks are fun and require good timing, but Bros. Items also require some timing and are a little repetitive. No offense, but I believe getting a game and not finishing it is a waste.
-
I prefer Attacks myself. Perfecting and advancing them is satisfying and fun to watch. And even if you mess up, it's good for a laugh. Items? Too repetitive and boring.
Yes, I have finished both games. In SS, both brothers are level 99 and Luigi is so powerful that the Time Bob-omb at the and of the Bowletta batlle doesn't knock him out. In PiT, not only are my characters at level 100, but I'm the first person on GameFAQs to pull off the feat.
-
Good grief, that's a lot of power. I got Mario and Luigi to level 98 (in M&L 1), and then I finally decided it was time to give it a rest. But that Time Bomb still knocked them out...
-
I believe I found out why Chicky's Luigi is so powerful.

OMIGOSH! My secret has been revealed! And people still read that thing?!
But yeah. I used to be really good at the surfing game back in the day...
-
Luigi is so powerful that the Time Bob-omb at the and of the Bowletta batlle doesn't knock him out.
I didn't think that was possible. Congratulations.
-
Hey guys, I just noticed, PiT DOES have Bros. Attacks..... Sort of, like that double jump with the babies! Or when Mario or Luigi grab the baby by the legs and swing them on the oponent.
