A topic about seemingly retconned things in the Mario series, that vanished/changed without explanation.
My first observation is the topic's title, of course- Wario's Castle was last seen fully repaired at the good ending in Wario World. But in the WarioWare games, and even in Wario: Master of Disguise, Wario's living in a common house. Did his castle just dissapear or something? Or was Wario World's bad ending canon instead? That castle appeared in Wario Land 2, 4, and Wario World- It was hardly a one-shot forgettable location like the ambiguous country of Mario Land from Super Mario Land 2. Yet the castle vanished with no explanation.
Discuss this, or any other strange unexplained changes, here!

Rudy the Clown
-
If not Rudy, than Wario got tired of living in a castle and moved into a house.
-
Do you know what you're saying? Wario, if he could chose, would live in a castle instead of a dinky shack.
-
lol mario continuity.
In all seriousness, practically everything has been retconned at one point or another in the Mario universe. I mean, Mario's house changes appearances in every Mario RPG released, Baby versions of characters suddenly appear on Yoshi's Island, Bowser Jr. appearing with no mention of the previous Koopa Kids, Pauline returning from a 20 year absence with no explanation and a lot more that I can't remember but yeah, you get the idea.
-
I love the lack of continuity in the Mario universe! Everyone gets to pick their favorite and say it's the "real one".
For the record, it's the original Super Mario Bros. That's the real one.
-
Perhaps Wario's common house is just a little hideout for him. And/Or he relocated his castle to a more obscure location. Come on, he has the money to do that, it's not like he's donating it.
-

Uh, no. I was just trying to come up with some lame excuse as to why he lives in a house.
-
There's obviously more than one Wario out there, one of which is a plumber-type who lives in a castle and beats up on Mario all day, and the other of which lives in a house and runs a wacky video game corporation.
Yes, it's the return of the thoery of multiple universes. I'm thinking there's an infinite number of different worlds were a guy named Mario fights creatures called Koopas and stuff. That's the easiest way to explain the lack of continuity without causing your own head to explode.

I like that theory. Dr. Mario could be an alternate universe too. Which is probably the only explanation for Mario being a doctor at all.
-
I'm also thinking that there's one Mario who was born in Brooklyn and fights the Koopalings, and another who was born in the Mushroom Kingdom and fights Bowser Jr.
There's also probably more then one DK, seeing is how one moment he's relaxing on DK Island and interacting with Rare's other characters, and the next minute he's a Mario sub-character with a toothy grin.
-
There's no reason to have continuity in the first place, as long as the basic familiar characters, etc. are there. I mean, it's just a game.

So, where is the Mario of this universe? :P
-
Anyone for Mariology?

So, where is the Mario of this universe? :P
I'm pretty sure the current games' portrayal of Mario is "Mario Prime", so I guess our universe doesn't have one, since he exists as fiction here.
-
Perhaps it goes like this...
Mario Prime - Contains the Mario series, Donkey Kong Country* series, and Wario platformer series.
*Yes, DKC, because Kremlings have appeared in Mario games, as have Diddy and others.
Dr. Mario - Definete alternate timeline in which Mario's a doctor and Peach is a nurse.
WarioWare? - Maaaaybe a different continuity. No mention of Wario's past games, a new house in a city, and there's a map of Earth that indicates it may not take place in the Mushroom world at all.
SSB - No continuity at all. It seems implied that the characters are actually toys/trophies/whatever.
-
I think a better question is; whatever happened to Wario's Moon? The genie from WL2 gives him a perfectly good Moon with his ugly face on it and Wario never even uses it.
-
How would he use that moon without pulling a Majora's Mask?
-
My multiverse:
Universe A:
Mario and Luigi were transported to the Mushroom World from Brooklyn, Bowser has seven kids, Yoshi's live in Dinosaur Land and act like ordinary animals, Wario is some evil villain who wants Mario's new castle, Wart is king of Sub-con, Tatanga invades Sara Sara Land for Daisy's affections, and Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr. are old enemies of Mario's.
Universe B:
Mario and Luigi were born in the Mushroom Kingdom, Bowser has Bowser Jr., Yoshi's act a lot more like humans and live on one Yoshi's Island, Wario is a greedy weirdo who opened his own video game company, there is no Wart or Tatanga.
Universe C:
Dr. Mario busts viruses with the help of Nurse Toadstool.
Universe D:
Donkey Kong is the guardian of DK Isles, the son of Cranky Kong, pals around with Diddy and Dixie, and occasionally visits Banjo, Conker, and even the Mario of Universe B.
Other assorted universes:
There might be other universes where Mario is a chef, a demolition worker, a referee, and a archaeologist, as in the cases of Yoshi's Cookie, Wrecking Crew, Punch-Out and Picross.
I'm also trying to figure out what the deal is with Mario vs. Donkey Kong...
-
Mario was also a referee in Tennis.
What did happen to that moon of Wario's? Maybe it's just always turned away from us in games with nighttime/space stuff, so we never see the face?
-
THERE IS NO CONTINUITY.
So give up already.
-
Amen. They're just games.
-

Do you not have any imagination or what? If people want to make a continuity to one of their favorite series, what's the harm in that?
-
Chupperson has plenty of imagination, he's just speaking the truth. There's no continuity, and that's that.
I mean, there's no harm in it, I suppose, but he's just explaining that there's no point in trying to bust a gut over trying to figure it all out.
-
"Make a continuity" is the whole problem right there. There isn't one. There is no possible way one would work.
-
well i think the only good warioware game was the one on the wii, but on the wii they should make anouther wario game, make it kinda the same, new moves and much LONGER!!!!
-
...and what does that have to with Mario continuity?
-
As to what happened to Wario's castle, perhaps the local council came round and, after a quick look round, declared that the castle was "not fit for habitation" (human or otherwise) and served Wario with a compulsory eviction order. After which, it was presumably given a good going over with a wrecking ball. :)
-
Had it Repoed; gambling is a serious addiction.
-
Didn't he build a castle in Wario World? Why would he need two castles? o.o
-
Cause it's Wario we're talking about.
-
...Pauline returning from a 20 year absence with no explanation...
Pauline came back? In what game did that happen?
-
Mario vs. Donkey Kong: March of the Minis
-
I figured out the "Wario's Castle" issue! The government took it away after he refused to pay taxes.
-
Wario lost his castle because it's a game and no one really cared about it anymore.
-
The real Mario canon is...
Captain N: The Game Master! Where Mario's planet is mentioned but never visited. You can rest assured that it in almost no way resembles any actual game, like every other planet in Videoland. ; )
*waits to discover if anyone else remembers that show*

What happened to it is simple: Wario went bankrupt, moved into a common house, and started a gaming company to make money. Either that, or being the penny pincher that he is, he lives in a common house for less expense.

I wanna know why Luigi never uses his mansion. I mean, Gadd built him a perfectly good mansion to live in, yet he usually decides to crash with Mario. WHY?
-
Maybe they live in the mansion, but the building we see is their office. I dunno. Actually, in one of my Mario fanfics, it was mentioned that Luigi lent the mansion to E. Gadd as a research facility.
-
"It was mentioned" as if that actually happened? It didn't!
-
I didn't mean it that way. I suck at wording things. I formed my own theory about the mansion okay? It's a game.
