Title: AP: Site archives dead MySpace members
Post by: Super-Jesse on July 30, 2007, 12:57:09 PM
The story's located here:
http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/07/30/dying.on.the.web.ap/index.html

I was going to post it, but it would have been one ugly post.

I am going to check this out as soon as I get home, for some reason, it seems interesting....

I heard about this a long time ago. I honestly think it's a bit odd, but I suppose a memorial is a memorial in any form...

Poor fellows who could not be saved from the fiery, painful depths of LO-Hell, to which many MySpace users go when they die. Tsk.
In seriousness, why? Counting MySpace user deaths is something I would do.

Well, I suppose this is okay in a "documentation for the sake of documentation" sense, like a Spam museum or compilations of sixteen different versions of Space Invaders. Still, it's a bit weird.

Super old. Not to mention it lacks mentioning good old Mitchell Henderson.

I believe this list was first begun on the ENIAC.

I'm assuming it has that "emo kid" YTMND couldn't get enough of for a while?

...Okay, yeah, seriously, I suppose this is a good idea. Is it suicides, or just natural deaths (I'm not in the mood to look)? 'Cause if it's the latter, sooner or later everyone's gonna be on that list.

Not everyone. After all, not everyone is on MySpace.

Well, at this rate... (eventually is a very broad term)

Like I said, I'm not getting a MySpace.

I noticed that everyone these days refers to a MySpace page as simply "a MySpace". Is that like calling a tissue a "Kleenex", or like calling photocopying "Xerox-ing"?

Not unless they're calling any old webpage "a MySpace."
However, there are terms like "Googling" nowadays.

What else are they supposed to call it?
