Title: What Does It Mean?
Post by: megamush on November 14, 2007, 05:30:45 PM
I've been on these forums for about a good year and a half, and I've seen some weird usernames. And I've been wondering if any of the other posters can tell me why you chose your user name, or and thing esle kinda weird about usernames you have seen in the past.

Like my username, megamush, it is like a Mega Mushroom from New Super Mario Bros. only shunken down to megamush.

P.S. I'm a HUGE mario fan!

Why would you ask people to do something, and after reading a post that does exactly what you ask, post something like
Good to know... ?
?

Boo Diddley

Substititue with part of my real name...

Boo Dudley
.
Boo Diddley is derived from Bo diddley (A once famous musician). My parents were once gonna name me Bo, exactly for the same reason.

Plus, because of the boo suit power up: It works on yet another level.
.
So yeah....

No, it really is his real name. He uses his real name online, and uses his "real" name as his real-life alias. I thought it was ingenious when he told me years ago.

My old username was simply the phrase "do not care" (because I didn't care about what the account name was) with a number that was one more than a random number I picked when creating a Neopets account years back (the number, 95, was used instead of 94, the original account, because it was the name of the account on which I had done a lot more stuff). My current username comes from the instruction manual for the NES version of Gradius, where the ship was called the Warp Rattler rather than the Vic Viper. After returning to #tmk after a ban from long ago for a topic change during a netsplit that didn't fix itself, I continued to use this nick, and eventually asked if I could get my username here changed to it, which, of course, happened.

Ultimate - te + Shadow = Ultima Shadow

I didn't like the sound of Ultimate Shadow, and Shadow the Hedgehog was already taken, hence I became Ultima Shadow.

btw, my username prior to this one, Luigi Simpson, came from the fact that Luigi is my favorite Mario character and The Simpsons was my favorite show at that point.

I'm just horribly out-of-date.

Actually, I've always used this name ever since I was first introduced to the internet in 2000. I just never used anything else so my fans can spot me at other sites and know who I am. But seriously. Super Mario 64 was what got me started. I'll never forget that fateful night...

My normal name has a whole ton of alien symbols unpronounceable by your puny human tounges, so this is the closest H.P. Lovecraft could translate it into English.

That reminds me of a line from the first Simpsons Halloween episode.

"In order to pronounce it correctly, I would have to...pull out your tongue,"

The Story Of Goodie
Many years ago, for some reason, I used to like calling my sister "sickie". One time after doing so, she said something like, "Oh yeah? if I'm a sickie, then what are you?"
I then responded with, "Uhh.. a goodie!"
So, after finally getting internet access back in 2001, TMK was the first forum I joined, and I thought that goodie would make a good user name.
I decided to use this same name for other message boards and stuff. However, it is often already taken; in which case I use the name niceified, which is another weird word I made up a long time ago.
The End

I think the other names I wanted were taken, so I just chose something that made a vauge statement about my intelligence and personality (I think it had something to do with how my thoughts are always "in the shadows", which is to say that I sometimes feel like I've got a lot of great ideas everyone either doesn't know or doesn't care about. And who doesn't like names with "shadow" in the title?).

I got my name when I was playing The Ledgen Of Zelda The Wind Waker. Back then I played that game alot and I wanted to make a user name that had Link in it but I dident want it to be just Link so I called it Linkin but that was already takin at the online game I was playing so I simply added a 800 to the end and thats how the loveable little scamp you know and love was made.

But later I found out that thier was a band named Linkin Park so now everybody asks me if my name is about Linkin Park. Gets prety anoying but I learned to live with it.

I chose this name while choosing a username for AOL Instant Messenger (don't add me until you PM me OK) because i aspire to become a race car driver, but am not sure what I will do. I chose the 709 because that was one of the 709 choices I could have as my username.

Many threads die prematurely. Sad, but true.

What determines a premature death?  Like, how many pages would make it a mature death?
Title: Re: What Does It Mean?
Post by: PaperLuigi on November 26, 2007, 05:10:42 PM
Well, if it's identical to another thread, chances are it won't last long.

EXAMPLE: The Pointless Topic 2!

BTW, I've only seen a handful of threads die after they've at least reached 5-10 pages. Only something really extreme will get these kind of threads locked. Like if the guy who made the thread requests that it be closed.

Are you seriously expecting me to find them? I said "a handful." That means there aren't that many. I suppose I could look, but they aren't going to be easy to find. I don't even remember the names to these topics, though I do remember that one topic made by Khold closed after about 10 or so pages.

EDIT: Ah, here it is. (http://themushroomkingdom.net/board/index.php?topic=8818.0) It actually died after 20 pages.
