Title: Weird critters

In many games i see these weird critters and wonder if they are some japanese animal or something from a story.
the pols voice in zelda is one im very interested in...
anyone know about them?

You mean things like the flames suspended in air and the parasols with eyes? Those are part of Japanese mythology
