Hey everybody! It looks like Sonic just might be put back to his old routs again! After watching this video it seems that the new Sonic game, Sonic Unleashed will bring back his old ways of gaming!
Check it out! http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/193422.html
Man I sure hope this game turns out great.

Sonic was dead?

Sonic was dead?
Well not really but since his new games are somewhat terrible people say he's dead

People say he's dead?

But... everybody loves Sonic! He's a big star!

Allow me to be the first to gripe about the not-cool name. Surely someone could come up with a better title for such a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde situation.
The camera angles look good for the most part. The camera broke the majority of other 3D Sonic games.
-
Recent Sonic games suck. Hopefully this new game will bring him back and remind us all that he used to be as good (if not better) than Mario in competition.

Well, it still can be changed (Sonic Wildfire became Sonic and the Secret Rings, remember?). Besides, people have been torn on whether this is even a real game now for a while--but I think vids like these put the issue to rest. Still (this is only what I've heard), why no Wii version?
Will it "bring him back"? Maybe, but I think that's what Sega/people have been saying for the last four or so Sonic games, and so far Sonic Rush (maybe Sonic Rush Adventure--never played it) is the only major contender to the title of "bring-backer". Honestly, at this point, I think they've kind of picked this scab to the point where it's never going to truely heal (that RPG looks promising, but it's directed by BioWare, so you can't really praise Sonic Team, or whoever, if it's a hit).
-
Wow, that looks pretty cool. I'm not sure I like the idea of the camera being mainly at the side, though. I preferred the "hold up" type of gameplay.
But I mostly just hope that it isn't glitchy like the other recent games.
-
Well it's a sidescroller. Sega FINALLY listens to all the SOnic fans out there. But ya know, it better be good, or I would just be sitting there, wondering how Sega could botch the game up so badly. That includes Sonics future, and Sega themselves.
-
The game looks like it has potential. I'm keeping my hopes up, but then again I've never played Shadow or "06" (the two games people mostly say aren't good), so I don't really know what I'm keeping my hopes up for, but oh well...I might get a chance to play "06" soon though.
Still (this is only what I've heard), why no Wii version?
According to this article (http://www.sonicstadium.org/sonicnews/440/), there will be a Wii version, which I'm happy about. Maybe Sonic Team will finally stop making it horribly inconvenient to buy Sonic games due to the fact they're all on seemingly random consoles. Seriously, Sonic Rush series on DS, Rivals on PSP, "06" on PS3/360, Secret Rings for Wii? I think they've finally realized that there's people out there who play Sonic games just because they're Sonic games-they're called Sonic fans.

I wouldn't. Don't waste good money on Sonic 2006 and/or Shadow the Hedgehog. It's best that you just play the oldies or wait for this new one.

Well, Sega Superstars Tennis is on every single dang videogame system in the entire world, so I guess that makes up for something... or not.

I found some pics.
It seems sega is trying to copy Twilight princess by turning Sonic into a Weresonic. a bit Stolen don't ya think?

Hey, Sega does know what gamers want!

*doesn't understand* Putting the hedgehog out of his misery? That picture's hilarious though. And were-Sonic's kind of cute from that side glance. If you got to steal, steal from some of the best.
I'm reserved on Sonic Unleashed for the moment, mostly because the visuals look realistic while Sonic still looks cartoony (the Sonic game for PS3 suffered from this: Sonic just looked like he didn't belong, and rushing past realistic areas makes me dizzy for some reason). I also don't like that the camera changes angles so much in the video. For a 3D game it'd be understandable. For a 2D game, no, I don't want it changing angles that much, not even when the hedgehog's going through an automated sequence at the time. I say Kirby Crystal Shards had the right idea: the camera angle changed as you went through the stage, but slowly and gradually (mostly so the curved path Kirby walked across always seemed straight). If you moved backwards, the camera would basically reverse its movements, again giving the impression that you were always in 2D and not seeing anything more than before due to angle since it's just going back to the angles you saw earlier in the stage (in other words, while the camera slowly curves right when you're moving right, it slowly curves left when you're moving left... or something like that).
Overall, the impression that Sonic Team's doomed to destroy Sonic as much as possible is still there just because this still does not look merely like a 2D game. They couldn't keep the angle static, they had to change it. I know Sonic Rush had something about action being on two screens, but that was still 2D. I'm not holding my breath for Sonic truly coming back to life until I see the reviews.
And I'm still waiting for them to fix the back of Sonic's head.

These hi-def screenshots (http://sega-portal.de/blog/279/erste-sonic-unleashed-screens/) are making me seriously consider getting a 360.

Nice... Hopfuly Sega dosent rush this.

What's wrong with the back of Sonic's head?

What's wrong with the back of Sonic's head?
The multiple spikes there (http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2005/250/929717_20050908_screen004.jpg) (pic is from Sonic the Hedgehog for PS3). Just looks weird. Would have expected maybe one line of spikes, like the one line of Yoshi red spikes. Looking back at it, I suppose it's no big deal.
-
Sonic has always had six spikes on the back on his head like that. It was the first two cartoon series that got it wrong by flattening them all into a single column. I guess whoever came up with the character designs for the cartoons never played the bonus game in Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
Now I do think that his spikes have gotten very long and droopy in recent years. I imagine it was part of the attempt to make Sonic look older by making him taller and leaner, but to me they look too limp to cut anything and so heavy that Sonic shouldn't be able to stand up anymore.
-
Uh, don't they represent a multitude of quills, which would be light?
-
Yeah... I always thought it was strange how you attack with your spikes in those games, but the bad guys have spikes that are stronger than yours, so you can't spike their spikes or you'll get spiked.
-
I really hope the enemies in this game don't have hit points. That was a really annoying thing about Sonic Heroes. (and 06, so I've heard)
-
youtube is saying that all the Sonic unleashed videos are no longer available due to a copyright claim by Sega. Well WTD isent Sonic Unleashed owned by Sega or not?!

Because someone who isn't a Sega representative or something didn't upload the video. A normal person did who didn't own Sega.

New video!

And the game has been comfirmed to be on Wii and PS2.... Great........
-
Yeah, what's with the PS2? I think I probably said this before, but you can tell Sony doesn't have much confidence in the PS3 if they're still letting people so feverently support it. Also, although non-exclusivity is generally good, it sometimes seems like the more consoles a game comes out on, the lesser the quality.
These hi-def screenshots (http://sega-portal.de/blog/279/erste-sonic-unleashed-screens/) are making me seriously consider getting a 360.
Heck, I'd get one myself if all the best games weren't already on the PC (that, and it has the highest failure rate of any console).
-
Sega has made a Sonic Unleashed Website (http://www.sega.com/gamesite/sonicunleashed/us/index.php), its starting to look like a good game.
-
ShadowBrain, did you ever notice that one console, the original PlayStation?
Did you notice how long it stayed alive after PS2 came out? Do you notice how your argument doesn't make any sense?
Also, more people own a PS2. Which means greater game sales. Since the PS2 is pretty much the most successful system.
-
Actually, it's a perfectly valid argument. While putting it on more consoles may sell more copies, it usually results in the game being crappier than it would be if it were only on one or two consoles. So, while it may be good for Sega, and for the people that don't want to buy a current system, its not good for the consumers that want a really high quality game.
-
I find myself agreeing with you more and more... (though I just want to say that I don't necessarily think that all games on every console are bad--it's just that, since basically all licensed games are that way, it can create a subconscious air of low quality in the consumer's mind)
